So with a Steam version I need to download and install the critical 2.0 patch, play past the broken wheel in "Vergen Besieged" then do what to return the game to EE for chapter 3?

Also, if I load my Chapter 2 save and go to Vergen again will this broken oil-wheel not be an issue? I had a few issues in Act II because the patch was installed when I was midway through it, so if I can re-do Act II from the end of Act I without needing to do any downloading/patching/ect I wont like it but it wont be the end of the world.

I have the very same problem - the wheel is rotated by 90° into the wall and can't be interacted with.
I read through this thread and noticed the "solution" to go back to version 2.1, turn the wheel and continue.

However, if there is one such game-breaking issue when updating the game to the enhanced edition isn't it quite likely that more such bugs may show up later on?
I have absolutely no desire to sink another 20+ hours in this game (after wasting some more time with re-installing, downgrading, upgrading, savegame-switching) just to discover that I'm stuck in a later part of the story again because of a bug!

The problem I'm having with the wheel is that no matter how fast I click on the mouse button, the progress bar gets to certain spots and then resets. I'm not getting hit by anyone and I'm directly in line with the wheel. I've had this problem since the original release and now the EE. I used save games from The Witcher 1 so Adda is alive and stuff like that. Anyone else getting this issue as well?

Fix it or money back!

5 hours of reinstalling/downgrade is not fix!

I cant even activate the wheel, its just there as a background graphic! Any news on a fix or workaround that doesnt involve reloading the whole of act 2? That Kaedweni General you fight in the mist is pretty tough, dont fancy doing that again!

I do hope the 2.0 Critical Rebuild will fix this in my steam version, though it definitely isn't the best solution, it's the only one I can realistically try. Otherwise I'll wait for a patch or long enough to be willing to restart the game.

It does surprise me they didn't make EE a choice, especially for steam users. I could be fine with this if I could just roll back/reinstall and play good old 2.0; and that is why I dislike the arguments above stating "Well it's really a lot of free dlc/expansion." It isn't either. It's a patch because it's all but required, and therefore it's held to a higher level for buginess. Breaking something that was working before, and not giving the gamer the choice to remove the offending code is terrible practice, and infuriating to boot.

I do hope the dev team fixes this soon.

EDIT: Quick report back, loading up the 2.0 Rebuild going through that part, and then re installing the EE worked! Though it definitely isn't ideal, it worked well enough for me to move on. Glad there is at least a work around, hope for the official patch soon.

Yeah they referred me to this thread and the only answer is to use that stupid critical build thing, once again I am not going to download the critical build that will take me 2-3 hours, play 10 minutes of game, then re-upgrade to enhanced edition that will take me another 2-3 hours, this solution is unacceptable, restarting a fresh game after being 20 something hours in is also unnacceptable they need to patch this.

I uploaded the necessary save folder files and a method, to work around this, here:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2675110

I'm not sure yet 100%, if it works. All I know is, I'm playing again.
It's just a different method, to get past, steam cloud sync, messing with you.
If it works the way I think it does, there will be no enabling and disabling sync and all of that.
just turn off steam and the game,
delete your files
and pop these files into those locations and you're set..
I hope..lol
BACKUP YOUR ORIGINALS.

Well, what can I say... I couldn't wait anymore so I downloaded the GOG version, applied the critical patch, passed the bug and then loaded the working save in the EE version (from Steam).
Everything seems to be working, it's not a perfect solution, we shouldn't be forced to use this or replay the whole game or lend a save from someone (I'm jealous of my save, I imported the save from the Witcher 1 and continued with the same "play-style" and I will do the same in the 3, so I don't want a save from another person).

I hope that everything will be good now, anyway still waiting for a patch for all the incompatibilty between non-EE and EE version.

This is completely unacceptable, telling people to restart their game or to jump through a million fucking hoops to just play your game is not an answer to the problem.

The critical update thing won't work for steam users, then steam users have to go on gog, spend their whole day downloading it again, and people like me who used the cloud to save their games are completely fucked. No I'm not using another person's save when I've played through the Witcher 1 and want my own damn story to play out. I'm not playing 30 hours of the game again.

Here's a tip for next time; have a warning that your save might be incompatible so people like me don't waste their time and money. jesus christ you guys got me so pissed off over a video game I almost feel ashamed.

Ok so I gather that there won't be a fix incoming. Still sending my save to help2start@thewitcher.com though, in case some breakthrough happens.

On another note, if this issue effects such a small part of the player base that the fix itself doesn't worth working on it, can we at least get some kind of a modification service for our bugged save files? Starting over, and considering those that encountered this bug , by very nature of it, must be on their 2nd / 3rd playthroughs already, is not really a realistic QA option.

Thanks for the free content btw.

just a +1 to game broken, I'm playing on steam so I figure I'm sol. Unfortunately I've already played through once, beat roches path, decided to play dark mode, grind the hell out of the harpies to be able to afford the kingslayer armor in chapter 3, get to the LAST segment before chapter 3, voila - all for nothing.

I've kept my saves, deleted the game, maybe there will be a fix in the future but from the sounds of it cd has moved on.

But it was a great game, shame i didn't beat dark mode before I learned there would be extra content and took a break as I wont be playing through it again anytime soon.

Add me to the list of broken games. If anything qualified for a hotfix it would be this. Even though uninstalling and reinstalling to an earlier version of the game is a workaround, its a bad one. And one that is going to make a lot of people very unhappy.

I am going to move onto a different game for now until this is fixed. CDProjektRed, please get us a fix ASAP.

Have the same issue (Steam version, wheel stuck sideways). Was on my first play through and decided to wait for EE since I was in late Act 2 and knew Act 3 would be fleshed out in EE. Boy was that ever a mistake.

UPDATE:
Game version 3.1 includes a fix for this bug, so please refer to this link
http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/30938-news-patch-31-available-now/page__view__findpost__p__829011
and patch to 3.1.

I won't be "spinning the wheel" any more unless there's some issue with the new patch.

----------------------------
I've just installed Version 2.0.

If anyone wants to upload a copy of their savegame, I'll happily "spin the wheel" to play past the problem and send it back to you. From what I've seen from the earlier posts, there don't seem to be any more problems after this one. There's an autosave less than a minute after the wheel-spin, so this is what you'll get back (you won't miss anything).

To send: upload the relevant savegame to your preferred hosting site, and either post a link here or PM me.

I'll return the savegames via PM, otherwise there's a chance I'll get them mixed up.

Incidentally, if you're using mods such as the weightless ones, it's OK, I can take it, but please mention it when you send the file. You do NOT need to clear out your excess inventory first.

----------

Another quickie update to save you having to upload twice...
Do NOT use the following sites for your uploads, as I can't download from them.
4shared.com (Requires registration)
dl.free.fr (Doesn't work. Period.)
woofiles.com (Not sure what the problem is, but has twice given me corrupted files)
fileserve.com (No longer allows sharing)
filedropper.com (This might have been a problem at my end, but its download method seems unreliable)
Also, I will not accept files sent via email.

----------
And another update, to save us BOTH having to do it twice.
If you're using Steam Cloud, can you say so in the PM.

I've just found out that it's a little more complicated than standard Steam or non-Steam, and it would save time for both you and me if I'm aware of it before starting.

I'll be offline for the next 8 hours or so (time to go and dream of spinning wheels).

Keep them coming in. I'll be keeping the 2.0 installation for as long as it seems to be needed.

That's unusual. I thought you caught most bugs :)

----------

OK everyone, I'm back and, I think I've done most of the ones that were in my PM's this morning. A couple of points

- Please don't use a hosting site that needs me to register. I love you all, but not that much :) (And if I haven't done your wheelspin, this is why).

- If you send me a Quicksave file, I will still be able to handle it, but the file you get back will be labelled AutoSave_0001.sav. You may already have a file in your savegames with this name, so one of them will need to be renumbered. The one I send should still be at the top of the list in the game, as it uses the date/time, not the name.
(Also, if you send me a Quicksave file, it increases the possibility that I accidentally send someone else's file back to you. I don't think I've mixed any up, but if I have, let me know. You SHOULD all be getting your own Geralt back.)
