Yeah have tried that as well and no luck.
Bit over it all, especially the lack of communication from the devs. May just go buy the ps4 version instead.

I've played last night and had no freezes after I left the "starting area".
That was after one NVIDIA Experience update too.

For all of you who have factory overclocked gpus :

I have a 680 phantom and I had this constant 5 min crashes and I could fix this with setting the gpu clock to the default gtx680 value.
Just download for example the msi afterburner and reduce your gpu clock.
This worked for me and my friends. No more crashes since then.

Might just try this with my 980 Strix..... But seriously this damned computer has been running FC4, GTA 5, Diablo 4 Multiboxing and a shit ton of other games all at maximum graphics as well triple monitor 1080p surround gaming. No game has ever crashed before and now this......

Same here - I have two asus gtx980, no overclocking at all, all other games are running at ultra without any crashes all day long - With this game I have a crash sometimes after 30 minutes sometimes after 1 hour. Newest driver instaled, I did a clean instal ofcourse like I always do. ...looks to me like another not fully tested game for PC.... I hope we can get a patch soon or at least an info that someone is investigating this issue.

This definitely seemed to help for me as well. I recommend trying it at least.

The 980 Strix is actually OCed with factory settings. I might actually try increasing the voltages to mine, the temps never went past 73 degrees in Witcher 3 for me anyways.

I have a standard non overclocked edition, and I'm rather 99% sure that this is a driver or a game issue not a hardwere one. I have this rig since half a year and I had this crashes only on Lords of the fallen on game lunch, it had been fixed after a while by the developer but I remember there was also a bunch of different strange solution which never fixed the problem, before the patch.

Considering how well every other game has worked on this computer I'm also pretty certain of that, only thing we can do until they hopefully fix it though is to try and make it as stable as possible ourselves.

For all GTX 770 OC Palit Users ...

I have done many of the ideas people thought what would help ... I think following helped me, so give them a try

Power Management Mode: Maximum Performance
Threaded Optimization: On
Click the "Apply" button, then start The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, go to the "Options" menu, then "Video" and select to render the game in "Fullscreen".

and MOST IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my Palit GTX 770 was set to 0.90 V
I changed it now 1.09 V

and was able to play over 90 minutes without any Problem ...
give it a try, I know how frustrating it is to crash every 1-10 min and waiting for it !
WISH YOU ALL FUN
AND SORRY TO CDPR, the fault was on "PALIT and NVidia" side !

Yeah, this has got to be a game/driver issue. Too many people with the same issue for it to be all our hardware simultaneously going bad after not having any previous problems. Hoping that patch comes ASAP.

Still no official word on this? Betcha somebody's doing overtime at CDPR.

Anyways, I've managed to eliminate this bug on my machine, more or less. It hasn't frozen since I started launching the game this way. Previously I'd tried the fullscreen fix, and the change to performance setting in Nvidia configuration. Neither worked. Somebody else suggested upping the priority of the witcher3.exe process in task manager when starting the game, and, lo and behold, since doing that, I haven't experienced any more crashes.

Waiting on a patch, because clearly there is a fuckup somewhere, or a memory leak or something that randomly (or not) hangs the game every once in a while. I've had it happen in menus while browsing, during cinematic cutscenes and during dialogues. No error messages either, have to close using Task Manager. Might be useful if we could get logs? I haven't found any in the game folder.

Anyway, here's what I do. Lemme know if it works for anybody else.

1. Start Task Manager, leave it open. Switch to Processes tab.
2. Start game.
3. Switch to Task Manager, find the witcher3 process, right-click it and select Define Priority. I set it to High.
4. Confirm on the popup, then switch back to the game.
5. ... Profit.

Unfortunately, you have to repeat this every time you launch the game, because as far as I know you can't set priority on a process unless it's actually running, and priority resets back to default. Uncertain if this is actively bad for your computer either, somehow. Anyone with more insight, welcome to reply.

Hope this helps some folk as a temporary fix while we wait for a patch.

You, Sir, are a genius!

I set my gpu clock to something around 1000MHz (default clock is 1006 afaik) and haven't had a freeze since.
To be honest, I didn't even know my phantom card was factory overclocked.

So after browsing hours for solution it seems i finally fixed it

I underclocked my gigabyte windforce 780ti core clock -105mhz and memory -170mhz, forced the fps to 40 with msi afterburner and opened the fps lock ingame, also I turned of the nvidia stream shit and put the priority of witcher 3 to High in taskmanager, playing the game in mostly high settings, some things like water quality is on ultra, fullscreen 1920x1080

GTX 780 TI Gigabyte Windforce with the latest driver(352,86)

THIS IS A MEMORY LEAK ISSUE - nothing to do with drivers. All the 'self help' fixes in the world will not solve the issue. IT is not a GPU / Driver thing - it is a problem with the source game code - and only CDPR can fix it.
