Game is sturrering in Fullscreen mode. Window mode works ok !

Hi my config is :

Core 2 Duo e7200 2,5 Ghz @ OC 3,8 Ghz
Ati HD4850 512 Ram
4 GB 800Mhz Ram (2xDchannel)

This is the problem after game was updated from DRM version to non DRM version (i have retail disc)

In full screen mode game sturrer like hell and it isn't low fps problem because FRAPS shows mostly 40-60 FPS all the time.

Game work like magic in Window mode.

I'm not alone on this there are many people with Ati cards who have this problem:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/witcher_2_stuttering/page1

I've been reserching this thing for while and many people i talked with are directing at game changing display mode to 59Hz and losing in higher framerate a lot off rendered frames.

That is why after using window mode it works ok. Game don't change display mode so it's still 60 Hz in window mode.

I tried to use PM on witcher site where i described my problem and not only mine but there never was any message ...

Well don't know if this is your case, but speaking for myself, I had the same problem before patch 1.2. After updating, the game is working fine in both window and fullscreen mode.

Did you download\install the latest patch (1.35)?

Hi that was quick ;)

I have version 1.3 Currently installing version 1.35. Maybe that will help (didn't play witcher for 2 weeks didn't know about patch)

And i tested it. Still sturrer in 1.35 fullscreen.

As i know it's a problem with ATi cards because folks with their Nvidia cards don't have this problem.

I'll try to record with fraps small video and post it on youtube.

Damn it's a shame but due to low fps in recording mode by FRAPS i can't recreate sturrering with that much amount as in 60 FPS mode.

Overall of this problem is that the more FPS you rig will do the more sturrer you will get. That is why ican't recreate it with fraps recording ( max 26 FPS )

Have you tried something like Dxtory or something similar to limit the frame rate? That eliminates the stutter for some people.

I can add also that this is't usually "you rig generate to low fps dude" because i can play game on high settings with framerate 1280x720 with 30-60 in windowed mode and in full screen mode lowest settings due to constatnt sturrer is unplayable for me. I must use high resolution to drop my FPS down (to 20-30 avg) to have fun.

As i said earlier it only happened after removing of DRM.

I also noticed that changing EXE file in game directory on original retail release 1.0 game with GOG non DRM exe provided more FPS but game started to sturrer.

I can probably say that .exe file modified by later patches is a problem here. This with sturrer FPS case probably means that exe of witcher 2 was modified so this game run in some cases in 59Hz mode after going to fullscreen mode on Ati cards.

I think hat should help devs to rid of this annoying bug.

As for sturrer and how it looks it is way diffrent that memory problems hickups where game freezes, game load assets and then continues.

It's more like frame skiping issue where game run ok and then instantly fast foward 1 or 2 fps every 1-2 seconds.

This occur only when Geralt is moving forward loading assets so it may be correlated to memory or memory leaks.
Above line should logicaly target memory problem of my hardware but as i said earlier in window mode everything works like magic with constant fps in range of 30-60 even on high (thanks due to low resolution 1280x720).

As Flotsam forest is sturrer "friendly" act 2 hanselt bushes before hanselt camp are just sturrer fest.

Hope that helps nailing bug..

In my opinion 59 Hz mode is a prolem here as it drop some rendered frames here and there.

Yes i have tried tools like DX overrider to have constant 30 FPS. It helps but not so much. To eliminate sturrer efect probably something like 20 fps should do. But playing 20 FPS is not that all fun for me. And it is more pain in ass knowing that your hardware was doing 30-60 fps without sturrer in 1.0 version and as game evolved game startet just like that sturrer. Windowed mone is perfectly playable but using windowed mode is good for oler games not for witcher2. I've already done 3 playtroughs and probably will start next one when game will hit 2.0 But damn, i don't want to play updated and better witcher experience in woindowed mode. It's just like spitting on developers who created superb art for witcher.

Hope my posts will change something and version 2.0 will be played in full glory...
