Sargon probabaly wanted to wring the guy's neck but he was perfectly courteous.

Lol.

The SJW mindset is one of groupthink and conformity. As I said way upthread, it's more like a religious belief than an affiliation. Not surprising that the side that's more individualistic also can tolerate more independent thinking.

Edit: The BBC Sargon of Akkad interview was so frustrating to listen to. The interviewer so badly wanted the discussion to be about misogyny and the victimhood queens, when S o A refused to entertain it, he had nothing to follow up with. Poor interview preparation. Though I'm sure he thought if he kept pushing, he'd get something more on the media's darling topic.

That sounds fairly typical of BBC interviews. On ANY topic.

I've never experienced that. Most feminists are not like that strawman feminist in the comic.
Also, how is listing women from video games meant to prove that there are plenty of ~strong female characters~ ? The list they gave is minuscule compared to the amount of games in history, not to mention that one of the examples they gave, is a wolf.

I say, this list might reflect how big of a procentage of all gamers are women and it will grow longer when more women enter gaming.

EDIT:
Sorry for bringing up this topic again. @Princess_Ciri
You damn well know that gender does not matter in Angry Birds and casual genre of games is played mostly by women.
I refuse to enter into further unproductive discussion on manipulated statistical data.

God, this is getting better and better: https://twitter.com/davidpakmanshow/status/528536368746876929

Maybe they want to push Pakman or at the very least make it look like he's pro-GG so they can shrug him off as a woman hater to make his interviews less relevant in their echochamber /tinfoilhat
Arthur Chu begging for an interview- he wrote a Salon piece talking about how he understands GamerGaters because he used to secretly hate women for rejecting him, too. First of all, dude, no one gives a shit about your teenage angst and hate fapping. Second, irrelevant. Third, you're projecting.

Sadly, I found that piece by looking at David Auerbach's Twitter feed. He's getting more negative about GamerGate by the day, but at least he still acknowledges that there is validity.

We need to be critical of the definitions used in these researches and their methods.

1) As several already stated, once they include Facebook games, then there should be a distinction made. I feel strange considering my mother a "gamer", in the way we've come to understand the term, just because she plays Candy Crush. If you want to call her a gamer, go ahead - but then we're entering a debate about semantics, while I think it's clear to us all what we mean when we say "hardcore gamer" (for lack of a less pretentious term). Putting me and my mother in the same demographic of "gamers" really distorts the ability to identify the different interests of each sort of player.

2) It's a study of the US only. I don't have any statistics but I think it's safe to assume that there are many more gamers outside USA. This doesn't mean that the split can't be 50-50 outside the US, of course, but it at least adds the possibility of the percentages being different once we take a world-wide view. Again, a reason for skepticism about the research's relevance to analyzing the gamer demographic.

I have seen a lot of these 'whitewashed' studies trying to show everything is equal or in favour of women because [reasons]. More PC GAMING women? That's just especially ridiculous. You don't see many women buying gaming grade PCs unless you're counting the people playing browser games or facebook games and the like which is really irrelevant to the kind of gaming we're referring to here. That is NOT what "PC Gaming" refers to.

You don't come across that many women playing these kinds of games. You don't find women who plays for really long hours/week. You don't come across many women PC builders or hardware enthusiasts. That's just how it is, is there some quota one has to fill that says everyone needs to be interested in everything?

Firearm aesthetics appeal more to men than women, that doesn't mean there aren't any women who like firearms and their designs just that it appeals more to group X instead of Y.

Personally I don't think casual gamers should be included either. Companies do not care about the audience that only plays facebook or flash games when it comes to their big budget releases. Sure, a company like EA will make crappy mobile games but they don't make their big cash off of those. They are not going to cater to a demographic that is not going to buy their big games. If males outnumber females in the "hardcore" space then companies will continue to aim to please males with marketing and content in games.

Depends what you consider "casual". I'm a gamer alright, but I don't play nearly as much as I used to. Most would probably consider me a casual gamer. As in, under ten, fifteen hours a week. I used to play at least like four hours a day two years ago. I think people like me would still count as gamers though. I'm not dropping 1k on a gaming PC for nothing.

I don't care what the gender statistics are for the industry, but it annoys me to see those numbers used for politicizing. "look! It's not a boys club anymore! It's OUR space now. You manly men are outdated. Irrelevant. GET LOST!" Who the fuck cares. I enjoy the fact gaming is more mainstream and more women are playing.

Edit- I also don't think we should be so fast to disparage FB and tablet games which are a huge part of the industry and quickly becoming more sophisticated . They're all games.

I consider casual gamers people who only play casual games such as facebook, phone games, or flash games.

Example: My mom plays Angry birds on her tablet and my step-dad plays gun disassembly 2 on a tablet. I consider them casual gamers. Playing video games is not something they do that often and when they do they play very casual games.

Example: You built a computer for video games and probably play RPGs like The Witcher that take hours and hours to complete. You come to forums to discuss the games you play and buy new games. I don't consider you a casual gamer just because you're busy and can't play as much as some others can.

I totally agree with your first point.

But there needs to be a distinction between casual games and hardcore games, yes, they are all games, but they are not the same to be labeled in the same category like what researchers do.

Don't really give a crap what sex of other gamers is, except for me they're all human and whatever their gender should be championing good games, not crap ones who market and pander correctly.

Edit: Ha, great minds.

I have your same view as well.

I agree.

That's all well and good, but unfortunately, the gender talk does matter.

They're claiming that women play as much games as men, things like shooters and all that, which make up a huge chunk of the gaming market. The truth is, however, that they do not. Besides the common sense behind the idea that most women simply aren't going to be interested in something like call of duty, there's also the hostile environment of online gaming, which is what Call of Duty is mainly for. And it's hostile to everyone, and I seriously doubt most women will be the type to want to deal with that just to play a game.

I'm making assumptions, yes, but the studies support that. And it's important to note this, because they want gaming companies to stop with the ass and titties, and such, because according to their studies, the ones where they count candy crush players as part of this demographic, Rockstar and such should start thinking about and catering to males and females as well. Which to them, means apparently not only making games lose ass and titties, but also making their objective and goal to enlighten, teach and preach, rather than let us have fun and be entertained...

So, while the gender topic itself is indeed stupid, unfortunately it's relevant. Not to say that gaming companies shouldn't think about female players too, but to discredit this claim that games shouldn't entertain or be about fun in the first place. One of the ways to do that is to shut their argument down with real statistics with better context. That's one way, besides of course pointing out that even if women did play as many games as men did, including things like COD, then obviously women don't have as much of a problem with gaming as they claim. That, and of course they're generalizing, assuming women would rather have games be the way these feminists want them to be.

They claim we generalize women by saying they don't play as much as men, but we have studies to show that. Where's the study saying women don't want games to be about fun? The ones that actually play?

I consider casual gamers people who only play casual games such as facebook, phone games, or flash games.

I honestly wouldn't even consider them a gamer. Not anymore than playing guitar hero makes me a musician.
