I'll list a set of windows 7 updates that are likely to do the trick for most DESKTOP users, ofcourse paired with .net run time components and driver updates, feel free to try :

KB3033929 (most likely you're missing this if you can't run the game)
KB2670838
kb4490628
kb4516065
kb4532945
kb4019990

I do realize that CDPR should make the game work properly on windows 7 since they put in minimum requirements but... seriously, why are you still using windows 7? It isn't even supported by Microsoft anymore. And upgrading to windows 10 is free...

because 10 by far lacks the polish that 7 has and is an absolute spying resource heavy mess of an OS that priorities gimmicky windows "metro" features instead of actual functionality, and Microsoft forces its bandwidth leeching features upon you without your consent including forced updates that the average windows 10 sheeple can do nothing about, look at it as a non-drm free game/windows

If you have a stable running system dedicated for gaming, and you're running everything normally; You have no need of constant updates that destabalize your existing work/game environments causing incompatibility issues. That's a mac's job.

I know multiple users that are playing cyberpunk 2077 on their windows 7 desktop rigs mostly on radeon intel builds flawlessly at the utmost ultra settings with minimal issues, on the other hand the average RTX fanbois that only have the technical skill of hitting the ultra preset are crying about their performance losses because of their inability to handle the much gimmicky "Ray-tracing" and calling the game "unoptimized". What they don't realize is that its NVIDIA's marketing and consoles that have caused the game to delay as much as it has.

I am running it on Windows 7. Setup is in my signature. I have the GOG version, not Steam. I know the Steam version has had a bunch of issues, mostly due to the Steam Overlay. The GOG version on Win7 CTD's immediately if the GOG overlay is enabled.

To those questioning "why are you still on Windows 7?" As if its supposed to be an insult, really have no concept of gaming stability. Gamers like myself who have huge libraries and legacy titles dating back to the late 80's favor Windows 7 for compatibility and stability, unlike Win10 which as the poster above me stated its full of bloat and spyware (verified years ago even with their updates to remove exposed bloat). Its just an OS that is not compatible with many games until recently in the last couple years even though its been out almost 10 years. You need to run a Windows Box and configure way too much to run most anything Windows 7 and older. You need to get wrappers just to launch certain games/programs. I know, I had Win 10 before, and downgraded because it was too much of a pain to configure each game I decided to play in my library.

Make fun of us all you want. Win7 is still a better OS in the long run. On my next PC I decide to Build, ill likely do a dual boot of 7 & 10.

this is complete nonsense. after install it even takes you by the hand to disable any data collection features. also - do you by any chance own an ios or android cellphone? just aksing. because try to disable the datacollection on that device.
and calling os updates "bandwith leeching feaatures" - really? this is so dumb i seriouly question myself here if its worth it at all to reply to it.

truth is that w10 is an extremely reliable and fast os. parts of the ultra pro gamor faction have decided to hate it. thats fine. but really there is no point in glorifying your obsolte out of support formerly good os over it.

This is true for like 90% of software these days.

Never needed to do anything like that. And I do play older games from time to time.
But yeah, my comment "why do you still use windows 7" (was not supposed to be an insult) did not add anything constructive to the discussion. My bad there. Sorry.

Its fine, was more of a general response to that comment, not directed at you specifically. Ive just seen that comment all over the place in more of attacking manners for others.

Let me put the Windows Box this way. My Steam Library has 1200+ games. I also have about 100+ physical CD/DVD copies of games from 1996-current. About half of those dont exist digitally. So the only way to play those is on Win7 or a strenuous amount of work configuring wrappers and Windows Box. The same goes for close to about 50-60 games ive tried; like the Steam version of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I have the disc versions of that and GOG version as well which I never tried those yet on Win10.

Fanboy all you want, its fine. We are not holding onto Win7 over Nostalgia purposes. Yes the Win10 installation NOW holds your hand but it st ill leaves ton of bloat behind even when cherry picking to remove features. The fact their is a *Black* edition someone made that installs at a 1/3 the space of the base install and about 1/2 of the cherry picked install, proves how much crap its filled with.

Its like getting a new phone from your local Wireless retailer. They load it with a bunch of bloated software that does nothing but eat performance and memory. Only way to get rid of it is to jailbreak it, remove it yourself or flash it with a bloatless OS.

Hey, to each their own I guess, right?

Those are empty for me.

Regarding Win10 - too many words. The short answer is - Win10 is shit. Deal with it.

do you genuinely believe data collection and analytics are the only problem here, and the solution is as simple and as toggle-able as your device's wifi switch, as though updates go brrrrrrrrr everything is automatically better? Is the argument here really "Ohh everyone includes bloatware these days" completely legitimizes bloatware now?? Not only that, Windows 10 markets itself by attempting to make your legacy hardware and software obsolete and that's a major breach of trust from being customer friendly, I'm stating facts here not making conspiracy theories [...]

Hopefully some further updates from the game itself make it run, seems like you're on a mobile setup as well .. And to summarize yes, you're absolutely correct about 10!
The issue is the compatibility with dated mobile NVIDIA cards for now with Dx12 games. Otherwise I have 10 on dualboot within my ssd and it runs there without an effort.

tl;dr:
latest is subpar and byfar from greatest. updating does not necessarily guarantee efficiency.

Far from it, the issue is isolated to certain nvidia hardware (unless a solution is found from the game itself)

Imagine needing an "opportunity" from microsoft to "upgrade" LMAO, That's not the point of this thread though but feel free to leave unconstructive replies. I am running the game just fine and I want to be able to run it on 7 too!

Its still a Free 'Upgrade', and you dont need to be condescending.

We explained legitimate reasons and why Win10 is not good. Also Microsofts data is heavily skewed as the majority of gamers run on Win7 still. Steam survey is limited as well as only a fraction actually submit their hardware data. *MOST* of the only ones that use Win10 are those who buy prebuilt PC's, fresh Licenses due to hardware bans (look at games like Overwatch, Vanguard, CoDMWR) from cheating which result in huge amounts cashflow into those games, OS Licenses and more hardware purchases.

Yeah sure people are graduating to using the Win10 OS, its not because they want to, its because they are forced to because lack of choice. All it is, is a reskinned slightly more fleshed out Windows 8.1. Win8 had the 2nd lowest life span before a new OS was released to replace it, Vista was the worse.

Topic is the game not launching on Win 7. Not why some still use 7, why others use 10, or why anyone should or should not change their operating system.

Non-constructive posts (e.g. "Just upgrade to Win 10") are neither needed nor welcome.

Yes, I hope nobody will suggest me to "buy desktop computer!" or "buy a console!" just, because, you know - mobile setups are so inadequate for this game :)

I run CP2077 on a win7 rig with minimal updates, just service pack and security updates.
corei7 (haswell) , 16gb ram on a asus maximus 8 mtb and Rx590.

Interestingly I had to roll back my AMD driver from 20.11.3 to 20.9.1 because it became MORE unstable with the new drivers.
On release day I played 18 hours in a row, no bugs... so with hotfixes and so on, I´d say my stability got worse :/

So if your game boots, but then immediately shuts, try roll-back of amd drivers to either 20.11.1 or 20.9.1

Also remove the drivers and when reinstalling say no to "Adrenaline AKA Wattman" the wattman auto tuning software seems to be the main reason for many crashes in both this and many other games.
Heres how:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/fdqdx0
PS: only amateurs and programmers like win10 -.-

do try KB2670838 if applicable , you can obtain it here;
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36805

Made the difference between running and not running for some.

I mistakenly stressed the importance of KB3033929 on my reply earlier which may not be as important as its mostly for dell systems. While KB4474419 and KB4490628 are to introduce the SHA-2 code signature which is much prompted by online games. https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4472027/2019-sha-2-code-signing-support-requirement-for-windows-and-wsus
