Avira is just a simple free AV program. Its mostly just the most basic of watch tools.I dont use any fancy firewalls, just the built in windows FW. I havent checked if its on the exclusion list, so ill check that now, but id be surprised if thats it.I did add it to the DEP list.No i dont have aero disabled, its too pretty :)the only unnecessary programs im useing are the ones im useing to track my PC health and stats.

I used avira and microsoft security essentials for awhile but switched to avast let`s try if you don`t mind setting your mobo oc to 0 then try these card clocks with msi afterburner (NOTE: if the shader clock has a dull or faded look compared to the core clock that means the 2 are linked and that is good but if it`s the same color then click the link button between the 2 to link them) now move the the core clock to 710 and the shader clock should move at the same time which is what we wantthen set the memory clock to 980 and click apply. Now if you want to save these settings to a profile click save and pick a number now click the button apply these clocks at startup left lower corner also note that the msi icon has to be in the notification area otherwise you will still be running stock clocks. You probably don`t need to restart computer but i go by the motto if ever in doubt restart .Your probably wondering why all the different profile buttons . So you can apply different card settings for different games. Once system has rebooted then open afterburner to verify your card is running at what you changed it to if so then be sure to minimize it and try the game

Well, i just was able to play it for a couple hours with no problems. It seems reinstalling it after making a bunch of the changes i made has fixed it finally. At this point my guess is that something about the install works with your VID card, when i first installed it i had the 2x7900 and when i reinstalled it, i had the 250 already in.Thnx for all the help, ill keep this post in mind, im still not wanting to belive its fixed yet, so ill be testing it more this weekend.

To Herophantom:So far I have had no luck fixing my issues. I have tried everything below except changing the clock speeds on my graphics card (i'm not confident enough to do that). I'm just going to try re-installing the game like you did to see if that sorts it after all the other changes. Question - when reinstalling did you let the Witcher try and update Direct X or VC again? Or did you prevent the game doing any updates? Thanks for your help.

It really doesn`t update it just reinstalls it you will still have the vc++ 2010 update you can verify by going to control panel then add/remove programs and scroll down to Microsoft Visual C++ 2010What video card to you have and believe me if i can over/underclock a card anybody can

Okay, I recently just bought The Witcher - Enhanced Edition via steam, the game seemed to have downloaded fine. After about 20 or 30 minutes or so my game will randomly(?) crash, I've noticed that this happens after I change zones or when I use the quick save function. The map also seems to mess up before this too (although not always), the way points are still displayed but the map itself is black.

I get the exact same error as you, and it's starting to piss me off. It only happens after hours of gameplay though, not just 20-30 minutes. Same pattern as you mention. It happens either while saving or when transferring to a new area, often after heavy combat action. I check the map frequently. Sometimes it goes black, with only the markers showing. If I try to save then, it crashes. Every time. I checked my error log, and it's almost a blue copy of yours. I have updated graphics card drivers (Geforce 7900 GS), and Windows XP is up to date. 4 GB of fairly new RAM.

Q: The game crashes when i try to leave the swap/cemetery or I get "Cannot load module. invalid IFO file", what can i do?

Is this what you had in mind?I'll try it next time I play, but I'm not sure it will help any. My game can crash anywhere, and not just from transfers. I'll try it though. Would be great if it worked.

Didn't work :(It crashed much quicker today actually. I've usually been able to play for hours (4-5) before a crash. Now it happendd after 1 or so. Don't know if it had any impact on this, but yesterday I updated my Visual C++ library from 2005 to 2010. Strange it was that old - guess WinUpdate doesn't update it.I had been to the swamp as part of Chapter 3. Went back via the boat to talk to some people. Transferred fine and was walking in the city towards the Inn, almost where the sewer is, when it crashed.I had done what was mentioned in the FAQ. Load the game. Go to right saves directory and delete .sav. Move about a little and save the game, then reload.

You could try turning your card clocks down a little to see if that helps

I've no idea how to do that. It's a Geforce 7900 GS too, so I probably need all the juice it's got. The whole thing is just strange, because I've had no problems with others games. Not a single crash while playing Mass Effect 1/2 or DAO - all newer games who require more than TW. I suppose I could try turning the settings down from medium to minimum. The game runs fine as it is (bar the crashes), but it could perhaps be worth a shot just to see if it still crashes.Must say this is starting to get very annoying. I'm holding my breath each time I save or transfer to a new area.Edit: I've added my errlog.txt. Don't know if it has anything to do with anything, but I've noticed that at least my last three errologs had "error while writing mini dump" and that the call stack is full of zeros. My errlog ends at 67 modules, while the errlog from the OP has 93. No idea if this is relevant, but thought I'd post it nevertheless.

I personally use MSI afterburner not only for changing clocks (only if i need to) but also for monitoring card temps , fan speed (can also be set to go higher as the card gets hotter) and fps all while playing a game in real time and did i mention it`s free and relatively easy to use . The only drawback would be you can`t use fraps at the same time but afterburner also comes with a screenshot generator as well

I m having the same problem as the first post, or i was It started out as crashing when I save after playing for 20 or so minutes, that was after i installed it lastnight, I spent most of my night look up ways to fix it I have tried everything I found like updateing the VC++ libary, running in xp service pack 2 mode, and in 640x480 mode, i tried turning the grahpics to minimum, I tried the vista fixes, and when i woke up and tried it this morning, the first time i run it and load a save, it gets into the game then crashes after 5 seconds of gameplay, I try it again and it works but it crashes the first time i try to save. With all of the forums and topics about this and so many people having the same problem, you would of throught the developers would of released a fix or an update that helps or something by now. I'm running windows 7 32bit ultimateMy graphics card is an Nvidia 9600GT2gigs of ram and a Intel core 2 duo CPU E8200 processorCan someone please help I just wanna play the game and as lame as it sounds this is stressing me out

read: http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Getting_tech_help_on_the_forum and attach that PCWizard report as instructeddo attach the file ERRLOG.TXT from The Witcher/System folder ( if the game crashed )Also make sure you have the latest nvidia driver and with the 260 series drivers one of the options is a clean install be sure and select that optionOne other thing you might try is disabling autosave to see if that helps

Suggest running memtest to make sure memory is okalso close all unnecessary programs according to the report 92% of memory is in use closing any unneeded programs will help in that regard analso make an exception for the witcher in your antivirus

Why does your errorlog say you have xp?1. I think you should update your RAM for good performance.Or at least increase your virtual memory.2. I had a similar problem when I was running win 7 64 bit. I have 8 RAM, and it was overloaded in 1-2 hours as system processes kept accumulating without flushing. I was forced to revert to Vista and the problem was solved. Have you seen what processes are overloading your system? maybe they are the key to solving your problem. The OS often shuts down high resource processes if it senses a pending overload, to prevent damage. However, it does not shut down most system processes, and if it is one of these overloading your system, the problem will persist.
