I thought that only 16:10 would have been "black barred" ;) but full support (no letterbox or whatever) only for 16:9 seems to be a really big oversight from CDPR. Not that will stop me from buying the game but on some rez the game will look really weird... instead of adding (skippable) QTEs they could have spent some time to give full support from the start :)

Yup I tough that the 16:10 resolutions were going to have problems and not that the game would only support 16:9. The only game that I have that did this has Assassin's Creed II and that game was a really bad port. I really do not know what to think now :/ how is a game that says that is a PC exclusive do not have most of the resolutions for PC? I am sorry but this is really bad.

Yeah, it's bad. It contradicts all their statement about being a true PC game. I couldn't care less about skippable or non-skippable QTEs, but different aspect ratio support is a standard on PC gaming and a need for me. *sighI think I'll play the game like this anyway. I'm a bitch. :/

I'm not too concerned that CD red are dumbing things down. I was to start with, when I first saw gameplay and menu and stuff, but since then what they have shown seems promising. I know what you mean about Deus Ex highlighting system. Its very stupid. There is a good chance they are just hijacking the Deus Ex name for the sake of a console release. It was done once before with that franchise I believe.

Yes. It did happen with Invisible war. Finally EM (Eidos Montreal) end up listen to the community. They are going to make the highlight optional.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c31PhzVwnfcIt seems that TW2 will be my only canceled pre order. Who would guess it?!

OK. So we have a new FAQ about TW2, and guess what... they talk about the resolutions:"Note: The release version of the game will have an advanced graphical settings menu. It will alsosupport the 16:9 aspect ratio and be playable in 16:10 (non-native) as well as 4:3 (letterbox)"Source: http://www.thewitcher.com/images/newsletter/TW2_FAQ_April2011.pdf

Ok.. I'm confused what people are still complaining or debating about now? As unless I'm mis-reading this it says right there that 16:10 is going to be playable..

People know that it will be playable. People are upset about having to play with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen (letterboxed) if they don't have a monitor with a native 16:9 resolution.

There will be support for 16:10, and 4:3 just not in day one. Chill people. :]

yeah, seems to be official. the "release version" part sounds like they will try and patch it in later.

In the "Ask the Dev Team" thread, one of the REDs said"Anyway it can happen that there will be black borders in 1.0 version. Just because we have still some issues to work on - related to gameplay - and it's just more important than everyting else. But for sure we will not forget about native support for other resolutions. It's just a matter of time. It's shame that we just can't clone ourselves ;)"So yeah, it sounds like they won't manage to get all the resolutions they want ready by May 17th, so they'll release a patch later.

@Corylea: Thanks for posting that again. I think many people missed the first time I posted that in this thread. Hopefully people can show a little patience and realize that the devs don't have unlimited time, people and resources. They'll eventually add native support and it's not the end of the world ;)

Or they even will upload the first patch the same May 17th. At some point before that date, they have to go gold (send the game to production). Maybe they will have enough time to build the first patch in that period.

I'll wait till they get the 16:10 resolution sorted then, those bars take away from immersion for me. Expected this from AC2 as it was a port but surprised to see this happen with a PC game.

At this stage I would like to know why the support of other ratios weren't implemented and also would like to hear about a time frame for implementing it. Will it take 2 months, 6 months or are we talking larger periods. This is the least they can do. Give us some information please.

Ok, you asked why multiple ratios weren't implemented and it's been answered many times (in this thread and others):
Anyway it can happen that there will be black borders in 1.0 version. Just because we have still some issues to work on - related to gameplay - and it's just more important than everyting else. That makes it pretty clear that they have more important things to work on but they'll get to it as soon as they can. And that also gives you the same answer they give anyone else when they ask for a specific time frame: "soon".

Another proof that this PC game has been developped with Console in mind, no LCD TV in 16:10 for sure.. This is scaring me that the company we've supported by buying The Witcher is letting us down on few keys points.I can play The Witcher in 1920*1200 but won't be able to do it fullscreen 16:10 in the sequel ! .. It looks like strange to get some regression.. even if the negative points are very few, it's a very bad news again !

If they gonna make it later, they should modify the FAQ April update to include this "native 16:10 & 4:3 support will be added after the initial release".Why don't clarify the point completly instead of living the ghost that fears us we won't get it finally.. we aren't all reading the whole forum to read each developper/CDPR message on it !An official word in an official document is very clear and easy to see/read ;)

My guess is because if they announce it in an official FAQ then they get 100 more people asking: "why not at release?" or "how long till we get it?" or "since you're supporting the latest widescreen format which is 16:9 that means you're a console port?". 16:9 ratio has nothing to do with being a console port. It's the latest ratio used in widescreen monitors that are HD and also in TVs that are HD. My guess is it's also the resolution of the monitors they are developing the game on (since most monitors released in the last 2-3 years have this resolution). It makes sense for them to design a game around what they're using, especially if it's the current standard.

That's a poor excuse. Then all the games that were developed in past 2-3 years had the same problem. Not true. You've to guess better.

LoL I could guess all day long; but really, do you want to hear all the possible reasons I can come up with? But on a more serious note, what I previously wrote isn't an unlikely scenario. When they create a game they start out with the very basics and then add everything else as they go. If 16:9 is what their monitors use then it makes sense for them to put that in first. Adding things that aren't completely necessary for the game to run are usually the last things added to a game.

Fanboyism has no limits, it seems.I really pity those 30% of gamers who, upon launching the game, will find out 1/3 of their screen is black, cause developers thought supporting 70% of common gaming hardware is "not completely necessary". If they actually fail to introduce all the aspect ratios upon launch, I would expect a ****** surpassing the launch of da2.

I agree! Look at what's happening with portal 2; gamers are bitching because of the in-game store, and 'do not turn off your console' notification, proclaiming it a console port (which is not), and giving it a low user score! Absence of resolution support is much worse than any of those things. And to make matters worse, many of the uninformed PC gamers have already created this image of TW2 as a perfect PC game, exclusive.. They'll be furious, and if most of them can whine like little bitches for such small things, imagine their reaction when they hear of this..Bugs are present in most games, and they can be solved with a patch, but resolution support is essential!!
