Game Stutters at times since the 1.05 patch update.

Since I have updated to 1.05, the game stutters in frame rate but not all the time. I even had an fps drop to 9 fps. I don't know if it is related to the latest Nvidia Driver since it was also updated recently.

I have GTX 970 and this stutters never happened like this before.

MAke sure you disable the ingame V-Sync and framerate limiter options and (if desired) force vsync via nvidia control panel and framelimit by nvidia inspector.

I really don't touch the control panel. It did not stutter like this before so why even touch the panel. Why would it limit to 9 fps? I have Vsync off in-game. It is 100+ in menus and average of 50s with Ultra settings in game so no limiter there. I am referring to frame drops.

I have vsync turn off and unlimited frames and have such terrible stutters I can no longer play the game. I have no idea what to do.

I'm trying to help, but you're ignoring it ...

You should never run demanding games on high end GFX cards at high-max settings without SOME kind of limiter.
You just stress the card to no end, wich doesn't always directly translate to heat btw.
And then you get stutters, crashes, artifacts and whatnot...

I've been playing the game since day 1 with a 970 SLI setup and i had 0 framerate issues.
Because i am good to my GFX cards.
I like my GFX cards.

Use VSync!
VSync prevents tearing. That is nice.
But many games have crappy vsync implementations. The driver almost always does a better job.
So disable VSync ingame and enable it in the driver profile.

VSync leads to input-lag you say?

Here comes the framelimiter..
Use nvidia inspector to access the (hidden) framelimit option in the driver profile and set it slightly below your screens refresh rate. (Like 50)

Result:
- no screen tearing
- no inputlag
- no unnecessary stress on your card (wich leads to most described problems)

There is no input lag. Crashes has been an issue with witcher 3 since day 1. Usually after loading a save but it rarely happens now. This massive frame drop only happened after last driver update and last patch. The game averages at 50 fps and 40ish in detailed maps and I believe card is not stressed as per nvidia website. It is a constant 60+ without hairworks. How would that be a stress to the card?

I don't really know. As per control panel you only need to use any kind of frame limiter if you have input lag and tearing. I do not have that. So there is no point limiting the framerate to fix a frame drop.

Even he word Vsync says it all. It just syncs everything to your monitor refresh rate becase without that the video card qill burst into 100++ frame rate in certain games and you will get more frames before you even input a command to your computer. It fixes burst of frame rate in the contrary not frame drops.

For the witcher 3, I don't need to be vsynced at all. I don't even exceed 50sh with hairworks on. I will only need it on if I get a crazy 200+ fps during the game and massive input lags.

Nvidia Control Panel even says turn off Vsync if you want better performance and I don't really feel the need to download a third party program. It is very unnecessary.

ok i set vsync on in my driver profile and turned it off ingame. this helped improve fps. to disable framerate ingame, do i set it to "unlimited"? I'm hoping to get back to mostly "high" setting with hairworks on for all. before 1.05, it ran quite well, then i had performance issues.

Try to play a for hours first. that could only be placebo. Hair works eat more than 10 fps so I would advise to turn it off if your card can't even handle Ultra.

I had that problem too, with my GTX980, and I found that changing the ingame settings, and then set back to your settings, fix this issues.

Try to change from fullscreen to window mode, then change back, or try to set all to low, then set your own settings to see if the problem gone!

In my case, this fix it....

I'll try that once I get home today. There is also another issue. I already posted it here on the forum. The settings keeps going back to borderless window mode even though I always put that on fullscreen. Weird shit.

You can see a good example of stuttering when you look at the credits. Even though I'm displaying a steady 60FPS framerate, the credits at times will scroll upward smoothly, then other times start stuttering as they move upward in a very visible way.

nVidia card users can impact the stuttering by changing the "Maximum pre-rendered frames" setting in the "Manage 3D Settings" tab of the nVidia Control Panel. If you change the setting to '1' it changes to a consistent, but reduced micro-stuttering. Unfortunately, it's consistent. Changing the setting to '2' will exaggerate the stuttering effect for those who don't have 'fast-eyes'.
