Game Unplayable after Patch 1.05

Previously was playing with medium graphics and post processing settings. Now I can't even play on the lowest settings. The saves take 5 minutes or longer to load with the loading screen beginning to stutter at about 80% and then when the game itself begins to show up the display stutters a good 15 second lag just to do anything: move the camera, the mouse, accept any form of input.

The game is completely unplayable for me now. Anybody else experiencing this issue or have any suggestions?

for the record, disabling vsync seems to have mostly remedied this problem for now...

Restart your PC?

You might have 2 instances of the wrapper running?

A wrapper for a new game, ugh... probably adds to the unjustified, unoptimized, performance in general...?

I've experienced only greatly increased loading times, it was about 6seconds to load before, now its up to 1min. That is not good.

Neither of you bragged about owning an SSD

SO your solution is simple. Buy an SSD

500MB/s true read and write speed is better than 15MB/s speeds.

No I am not exaggerating those numbers either. $0.40 per GB, now go buy one.

Actually, I have an SSD. Not to mention "buy such and such" is a less than optimal suggestion to fixing a patch related issue.

Yes, I tried restarting my computer after updating but that didn't fix the issues.

After disabling VSYNC (as my original post was edited to reflect) the stuttering ceased and I can now play again. The load times are definitely worse though. Not what you hope to see from a patch, but not uncommon.

try resetting graphics settings to default and re-enter them manually, helped a lot of people

Same problem, after 1.05 the game is super slow, and I have a good computer, ran fine at medium-high. Now it is unplayable. I set everything to low and it still stutters and the frame rate dropped from a smooth 30 or so to maybe 10-15. Ugh, about 50-60 hours in and was having fun but unless there is a fix, I can't continue!! :(

Another victim here. Even the main menu feels slower and choppy. Novigrad is simply unplayable now, it strugles and stutters painfully. Please CDPR, fix your product as soon as possible, it is unacceptable.

How much memory do you have? This slowdown could also happen, when the game requests a lot of memory (which depends partially on your settings, but the game always uses a lot). If not enough memory is free, Windows will try to free up memory, it does this by swapping memory to your pagefile.

So check:
Pagefile big enough? Should be at least as big as memory - if you have 8 GB memory, the pagefile should be 8GB at least. Windows recommends at least 300 MB, and up to 3 times the memory size. In my experience a pagefile as big as your system memory works well.
If the pagefile is managed by Windows (the default), then it is big enough, since Windows will grow it. If you make your pagefile fixed size (Windows setting, has nothing to do with the game), it usually is a bit faster, but it eats up the full size on your hard disk if used or not.

Use the Windows task manager to check if other programs in the background use a lot of memory. Browsers can eat up a lot. If you use additional software like SweetFX or Fraps check their memory usage. If you have 8 GB memory, it could be full. Witcher 3 still will run, but swapping memory to the pagefile is very slow. Also it can make more problems later, because other programs will not run well, and if Windows starts swapping back and forth, this costs time, even on a SSD.

Other people have no trouble with loading times - so this is my idea. Witcher 3 uses on my system around 2.5 - 3 GB memory, it could be more at times. 64 bit programs usually use a lot of memory in comparison to similar programs in 32 but mode. You could run low on memory, try to stop all programs, including Galaxy. It makes no sense to kill services because they use not much memory, but programs like Browsers do...

I hope this helps.

^THIS^

I'm so sad.

I've applied for a refund.

Just plain sad.

I doubt it is a pagefile issue since, again, most of us are many many hours in with no issues and suddenly the patch is applied and we wake up and boot the game and it stutters and crawls, even in houses and caves where there isn't much to see... I first thought it was Skellige, as I had just gotten to that area recently, but I traveled back to the main areas in Novigrad and the game runs the same. High, low, inside or outside, there is a noticeable delay and lips do not match anymore to dialogue in cut scenes either.

I have similar problem. The game is choppy with 1.05. I need to come back to 1.04 that together with amd radeon beta drivers (optimized for witcher 3) was fluid for me. Now I have a performance regression.

This.

Reset using a preset in options/video (Low, Medium, High or Ultra), then one by one try v-sync off, SSAO and not HBAO, max performance in the driver panel, borderless vs fullscreen, etc. Never leave old fixes when on a new patch. Reset and one by one change something until its stable.

maybe something wrong with the savegame files from 1.04. random issues being encountered.

in any case, it seems there are people reporting various issue in here, not just one :\
