gameplay and story do not work well together (Act 2 Spoilers)

I agree, but for me the main issue is that Dex mission is in the beggining of the game.

It should be there in the middle of the game, just as RDR2 (Arthur cough his lungs out after he got tuberculosis, but you don't really feel this was a writing problem, because it happens in the middle of the game).
agreed.

The thing which I would do if I could though not sure if it is possible now would be the following:

1.) make the prologue playable
2.) open most of the world earlier.

What this would mean is that that their is build up to the heist as you do missions to get a name for yourself then you get the Dexter missions, then the heist in the middle then everything goes to hell and Johnny shows up and you go with the main story missions. this is just my opinion, but I think that this would flow a lot better.

The big question is how doable such a thing would be now.

Very doable. Cyberpunk is a massive success and has been the number 1 selling game for 2 months. CDPR has had previous success, but never something like this. They are at Call of Duty/GTA levels of success. Sure their shares tanked, but that will bounce back.

Not only have they smashed sells figures, but they have retained players. Cyberpunk 2077 has been top 5 most played games on steam since launch and also higher than GTA 5 since launch as a single player game with many bugs, while GTA 5 is a multiplayer title at this point.

CDPR has the real winner and the launch is I think beyond best case scenario for them. No doubt CP2077 will be their main squeeze for the next decade. Think massive free updates, expansions bigger than the core game, multiplayer. This is only the beginning! :)

Just change Vik's script so he doesn't say you're dying at the start of act 2. "I don't know what the hell that thing is doing to you but we can't take it out til we know for sure." And then just remove the "relic malfunction" interrupts until a point in the game where they come back, Vik has learned something and now you know you're gonna die if you don't get the chip out. Silverhand is still there but you don't know yet he represents your looming death.

Let us first build up a character that becomes an established merc, maybe already ventures outside the city for some lucrative Nomad business.

The 6 months montage with jackie should have been the open world section. The Dex quest being locked behind street cred level (as some quests already are). The Dex quest starting off a point of no return/johnny story arc. Any DLC story could then just be inserted at this point.

I agree.

It feels weird to have V doing shit with such a ticking clock.

I feel like the first part of the game is a decent game in its own right. However, that actually is the Watson arc. They wanted to give you a taste of the world by letting you free roam in Watson without getting involved in all of the arcs that are post Heist.

I agree with saying Dex and the Heist mission should have been later on. Probably was planned as such if the montage in the beginning was indeed intended to be playable content at one point. I love the story of the game, and I personally like stories that give me a sense of urgency so this doesn't bother me so much, but it would have been more reasonable to let you explore Night City (and not just Watson) at your own pace before doing the heist.

While this is fine (doing it for my 2nd playthrough), it still messes with pacing/logic. Exploring Watson during the lockdown still has you talking to Dex about his big score/joining the big leagues as soon as the prologue is over. I mean you could talk to him and leave Evelyn hanging at Lizzys pickling her liver at the bar, or just totally ignore that Jackie told you he was waiting down the road and leave "Black Jesus" sitting in the back of his ride for a few weeks while you go off being Regina's B*tch.

I feel the johnny story is short enough (or even be truncated) to make it end game content. All while expanding the 6 month montage into open world exploration + relationship building with Jackie (plus mum?) and the fixers who just magically know who you are. It almost seems like this was the intention but instead cut it.

I agree. I had this as well in Fallout 4. More so in CP77. It constantly gives you a sense of urgency. Almost every day cycle, V gets a "chip Malfunction" episode and it really shows the importance of the necessity to fix the issue. The game itself reminds you consistently that you need to take care of this.

In my first playthrough, I just went ahead and did main story and then did the rest when it reset me back before the last mission. seemed sensible, but not much.
