Well the truth is that at this stage considering the leak is out and people are getting the first glimpse of the game through shaky cam footage.

If CDPR is worried about the potential bad image of their game because of this what might be a good idea is go to a site like IGN, Gamespot or Gametrailers and do a half an hour recording with one their guys showing off the game in full 1080p while mentioning it's pre-Alpha ( and for the love of God use a keyboard and mouse please if you're running it on a PC ).

Exactly. That's why I was wondering why to have a new behind-closed-doors presentation of the same stuff at all. The first time people were unaware of TW3, and it made a huge effect. People didn't leak it because they did not know what it was. But for the second presentation it should have been expected that somebody would decide to record and leak it.

I think CDPR just wanted to do some journalists a favor.

Print magazines barely sell anymore, so they depend on exclusive news stories.

The same goes for several gaming news websites.
A website which has exclusive stories first simply has more viewers.

In exchange for those exclusives journalists usually help to promote the game,
by making their audiences intrigued with it. This is also why you need to have
a certain amount of followers/viewers to be admitted to these demonstrations.

But yeah, they should have just shown it to everyone.

In the end you just annoy the fans by excluding them, someone else
makes the material public for you and becomes the hero.

:p

Well apparentely there is some people (those who shared leaked videos) that don't give a damn to it :-D
Devs should be more careful in choosing the people they invite to such confidential preview

I'm available, in case you need me, devs. PM me for contact *hint hint*

I'm not sure about the damage though.

The recording quality is supposed to be rather bad and I don't think you can catch too many glitches from it apart from the obvious ones. So they might be like "Meh, whatever, they don't have anything, no worries" while an HD recording would obviously let bugs & glitches stand out more.

There is also a problem of protecting confidential material. There are other games in work in progress and the risk to be beat on the time is high.

I'd wait for the official release.

You mean like gaming industrial espionage? Yeah, with DAI stealing everything from everybody, it might be a concern. Fortunately, Bioware also need a brain to use these stolen features properly, and I wouldn't bet on them having one.

Yes. And not only that.
The law of diminishing returns was at work here. Pretty evident media impact was modest.

Well you can catch a lot of them it seems: Jumping animation, eye animation, facial animation, fur and hair, NPCs without sword sheaths.

It that's the case, they shouldn't release the HD version IMO.

Maybe. We'll see what they decided to do. I imagine there was a high level meeting in CDPR to discuss this leak and how to react to it.

CDPR decided to try and nuke the leak, but it was too late by that point since many people had made their own recordings of the video.

Nuking anything that made its way into the Web is pointless. Whatever is there stays forever. So for CDPR it is probably better not to waste time with this, and decide how to turn this situation to their benefit. Releasing a short HD portion of this demo would be good. The leaked video is on the web to stay, but at least they can supersede it with their own version where they will control quality and content.

I sort of agree.

On the one hand, if they release nothing new, people will continue searching for the boot-leg video and might get a bad impression of the game due to the terrible recording quality.

But on the other hand, if they release an official gameplay video, chances are things will change between now and when the game comes out, and then people might feel cheated out of something if they had false expectations of what would be in the game due to the alpha footage (I don't think CDPR would purposefully mislead people, but technical issues happen and something might need to be removed or drastically changed).

I personally really want to see hi-res gameplay footage, but I'm buying the game anyway so I guess it doesn't matter what I want :p They should mainly focus on not giving a misleading or bad impression to people who aren't already into the series but are interested in what the game will be about.

So after thinking about it while I typed this post, I think it's probably best if they don't release that gameplay footage officially. As it stands right now, the bootleg copy is clearly unauthorized and not official, so I think that makes it less likely for people to be disappointed if things change by the time the game comes out. But if they do release the video officially then when things change it's harder to say, "Oh, that earlier video didn't really count because it was alpha so ignore what you saw before."

Better to wait until they are sure that everything in the video will be in the final game before releasing a gameplay video officially :)

The engine is 64 bit and DirectX 11 only, they already answered that. PhysX will include Cloth, Hair and Fur, dunno anything about particles. They will also have TXAA.

It was never answered whether the engine was 64 bit. The referenced 64 bit actually referred to HDR quality, which is completely different from having a 64 bit client.

If you have a source for the Witcher 3 being 64 bit, I'd definitely like to see it.

new interview

http://gematsu.com/2013/08/interview-cd-projekt-reds-adam-badowski-on-the-witcher-3

"Shifting gears a bit, I would like to talk about regeneration and combat.

Badowski: Geralt is going to regenerate up till a certain threshold unless he receives critical wounds. In that case, taking medicine or potions with healing properties is necessary."
