I might as well. I'm not in any hurry, just browsing and drooling over all this new hardware.

Nvidia is getting closer to supporting Wayland: http://www.x.org/wiki/Events/XDC2014/Program/

A planned presentation at XDC2014 by Andy Ritger from Nvidia :

Enabling Alternative Window Systems with a non-Mesa Graphics Driver Implementation

Alternates to the X Window System, such as Wayland and Mir, have evolved through novel use of the building blocks of the Mesa-, DRI-, and DRM-based Linux graphics driver stack.

We have been working to support alternative window systems in the NVIDIA Linux Graphics Driver through:

Refactoring our driver stack to more closely align to the organization assumed by these alternative window systems (e.g., by working to plug into DRM-KMS).
Proposing new EGL extensions that alternative window system implementations can use to enumerate GPUs, correlate objects between EGL and DRM-KMS, and present frames through EGL + DRM-KMS.

In this talk, I will describe the work NVIDIA has been doing to prepare to plug into DRM-KMS, present the EGL_EXT_device_* and EGL_EXT_output_* family of extensions:

EGL_EXT_device_base.txt
EGL_EXT_device_drm.txt
EGL_EXT_output_base.txt
EGL_EXT_device_drm.txt

and suggest an EGLStream-based mechanism to present frames to an EGLoutput

Dex - Cyberpunk 2D action-adventure RPG is going to be released on Linux (DRM-free).

Seems to be inspired by Deus Ex, Beneath a Steel Sky and Bloodnet.

Gameplay video.

Conceptually sounds a lot like Shadowrun. Minus the high fantasy.

Since both are cyberpunk genre, there should be similarities :) But it's a single character game, rather than a party based one. So it leans a bit more in direction of classic adventure genre. Or action games like Flashback. My first thought was about Bloodnet though, since it also was blending adventure, action and RPG in cyberpunk settings.

Well the whole idea of hacking and interacting with computers through a virtual world where your avatar moves is very similar. Then again, this is also essentially the matrix from Neuromancer.

I wonder if there will ever be a game with realistic brain-computer interfaces.

Speaking of multi-platform cyberpunk games, I saw this, Satellite Reign on the Humble Bundle a month or two ago for pre-order. Its another game given life thanks to Kickstarter. It looks pretty cool. It had the DRM-free indicator on the Humble Store so maybe it will land on GOG. Hope its a good game.

EDIT: Haha, and what a coincidence there's a new article about it on gamingonlinux :p

Looks promising. They classify it as strategy.

No idea what you're talking about Gilrond. Everybody knows Linux is only for servers.

/sarcasm :p

Interesting actually.

Some good developments from Nvidia:

* Wayland support is getting closer (presentation from XDC 2014).
* PhysX now supports GPU acceleration on Linux.

Tried out the Linux version of GOG's Planescape: Torment. Very easy to run: unpack tarball and run "start.sh". What it does is run the Windows game in a preconfigured Wine "bottle", and everything runs "out of the box".

It comes with a mini application to let you choose whether to run Full Screen or Windowed. Tried both and FullScreen didn't work the first time. Tried it again immediately and it did. Weird. Windowed gave me no problems.

I suppose (since this is the original Windows version) mods can be easily installed. I have a premodded version somewhere with widescreen support, Ghostdog's widescreen UI and larger fonts mod, i could either try that one or I could try modding it from scratch (more interesting).

I'll report eventually if I end up doing it. Anyway, nice little surprise for Linux gaming.

Divinity Original Sin for Linux is delayed, but they are working on it and it's a proper native version:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/larianstudios/divinity-original-sin/posts/1034753

Development is continuing with things like the Linux version and the hardcore mode still on our lists, but as we want to do this thoroughly, it will still take some time before we’re ready.
The Linux version especially suffered an extra delay as a result of our porting team having to fix a number of compatibility issues that popped up with the release of Yosemite. Whereas we initially hoped to get the Linux version done this year, it looks like it’ll be the beginning of next year now.
We know that’ll disappoint a few among you but bear in mind that we’re doing a real port just like we did with the Mac version.

With Icewind Dale EE coming with day one Linux support (which means that Beamdog's remake of Infinity engine supports Linux perfectly well as of now), I wonder why Baldur's Gate EE and Baldur's Gate 2 EE are still not available for Linux.

My guess is they're busy fixing general game bugs on both BGs, which are much more complex than Icewind Dale (game states, variables, events, etc). I suppose Beamdog will release the Linux versions alongside an update.

If you read the comments, Icewind Dale seems much more stable at release than BG right now.

Then again BG was a Bioware game and IWD, Black Isle ;)

Jolla tablet passed one million in backing on Indiegogo: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/jolla-tablet-world-s-first-crowdsourced-tablet

It would be fun to run ScummVM on it :) But really I'm glad there is a good Linux tablet coming at last.

Recently GOG released a version of Witcher 1 for OS X which isn't using Wine. I didn't see any news announcements about it. Does anyone know if they somehow remade the engine in native OpenGL or they used eON or anything else? Does it mean that Linux version is also in the pipeline?
