[GENERAL] Dicepoker, Drinking, Fistfighting

+
One thing I expected to see(and never did) were opponents that required a best 3 out of 5 which the "help" screen mentioned about some opponents. The fist fights are easy, but are another way to make easy money in the game. I do wish there was a bit more to them, but what can you do?

Hi people, I have been playing on the Poker and can not seem to raise my hand. For i.e when you roll the dice and the raise window pops up you have the 3 circles in the window. 1st one is 0 2nd one is with 1 and the 3rd is 3 how do i up the anty and raise these numbers instead of accepting the bet. The computer seems to be able to raise the bet but i aint got a clue on how to can anyone help me on this one please. Thanks

You can raise it 1 or 3 by selecting it. The game is simple in that it only gives you 4 choices (1 being to fold).Different players allow for different amounts.

You can bet more money (or raise) as you play better players. Of course, when they start running out of cash, they sometimes play a little close to the vest. ;D

I suck at the fist fights. Can't seem to beat anybody but the weakest one. I notice there is an ability that unlocks more moves in these fights. Has anybody tried it? Does it make the fights any easier?Or just do I need to keep practising until they stop handing my arse back to me on a plate.

Where are youu (Act)? and who is your current "big boss" opponent?I put talents in the fist fighting skills quite late (act III I guess) but defeated all "important" fist fighters in previous acts with no problems. I started with weaker ones, tougher ones until the "act's challenger" and never lost a fight :)

I'm still in act 1, so far I've only defeated the weedy guy in the inn. everybody else has kicked my arse. I press the left mouse button when the fist icon appears but Geralt rarely seems to land a punch.

Ok, here's the basics.Click directly on the opponent to throw a punch.Hold the right mouse button to duck when you see them getting ready to punch.Use the WASD keys to move out of range and dodge, and come back to throw a punch.I had no problem with any of the fistfighters in the first inn.

I got the fistfight powerup, I believe it is under strength in the skill tree. At the beginning of the fight you move back a bit and load up while your opponent is swinging punches in the air, when he moves into range you let it rip. I've managed to put some down with one punch. ;)I haven't tried the other fistfight skill enhancer though. You can do it really well without any enhancements, you just have to find the rythm of the fight. When attacking try to click just before it turns into a fist after every blow, you'll have your opponent pressed against the wall in no time.

Thanks for all the advice folks, I'll try and put it into practice when I play again tomorrow night. Can't play any sooner, real life intervenes... :(

i never spent talents on my first fighting skills and won every fight on hard.if you do spend them you get:full array of move: geralt does them himself, you just have to click and he starts acrobatic fist fighting ! lolpowerup: press and hold left mouse to fill a meter, then release to throw a harder punch (mostly uppercut)always start your punch when your opponents starts his punch animation, you will disrupt him EVERY time.

Using Blizzard helps with fistfight, too.Just sip the potions before you start a fight. It's technically cheating - but to hell with honor ;-)Had all the fistfight attributes and it helped imenesely. Especially when you face your last obstacle ;-)

yes, you have to press r-mouse before your opponent starts his swing in order to dodge it (you'll see the text "dodge" float over you).as soon as he starts to swing, you can release the r-mouse and hit the l-mouse to hit him. backing your opponent up into a wall makes it much easier to hit him (on the ropes!).the dex skill that allows for combinations is fun. Geralt really knows how to hit a guy below the belt!for the combinations to work, you have to pay close attention to the "fist" icon. when you throw your punch, watch the icon. as long as it stays a normal "fist", let Geralt finish his combos, as soon as it gets little yellow "X" through it, go back to ducking or dodge backwards (means combo is done). combos can be anywhere from 1 to 3 punches, and can include a kick as well.

The sizes of opponents' raises are dependent on how much money they have left. After losing a few times to them, their raises can get quite big... but it's really your own money that you already lost to him. And when the opponents are nearly broke, you can raise only 0/1/2 or such.Another thing, all of the opponents are insanely easy. They have no idea of what dice to keep and what to roll again. For example, someone may have 55512, and then after calling your raise, will roll the 5's again and get a hand like 26312. I thought the poker game would get tougher as the game progressed, but even Foltest was as moronic as everyone else. Even without the opponents being pushovers, the dice poker in Witcher is unchallenging since you can always see your opponents hand and know exactly what your expectation for each hand is.

yea , but at the same time , it's one of the rare way to make decent money in the game Selling food , plants , alcohol or fistfighting brings you almost nothing . I had to kill 100 bargheist to make 500 oren , it just bought me half my red sword and it took me ages to kill 100 bargheist I too would like poker to be harder and more realistic , but then if they do that , they need either to lower the price of armor and books , or to create other mini-games more simpler in order to make money , cause in this game , for exampple in Act II + III , you need 2500+4500 orens to buy all books , and 5000 to buy the armor + all the money you spend in various stuffs , and apart for cheating with Thaler in Act II to get those 5000 by playing with him to death for getting the armor , i don't see how you get the cash , even if you make all the missions and contracts . i guess i have to see visit less whores :p

...in which case you can just leave the building and re-enter, and they will magically have won enough money to have full wagering again.btw, the best way to win large sums of money in dice (poker has suits) is to play the mid-level players that allow for huge raises.for example, in ch2 not zoltan, but the "bouncer" in the inn allows you to only place a max starting bet of 40, but will allow 60 per raise (at the start, and that even goes higher as you continue to raise).best time to raise is when the opponent has 2 pair, and you only have one pair. often they will allow 3 consecutive raises, and they will keep their two pair, looking for a full house, while you only need to roll 3 of a kind.I've had games with that bouncer in ch2, and velerad in ch3, where I've frequently won pots totalling over 700.

After the initial dice roll, you can raise your bet once.then the other player can either call (match your sum), or raise (match your sum + additional gold).if the other player raises, then you can raise on his raise, and then he must call or raise again.this only happens when the other player have a much better results then you - and feel comfortable.as said before, it's best if the oponent has 2 pairs and you only one, because your chance of getting 1 more dice to match the pair is 50%, and 3 of a kind beats 2 pairs.I'm thinking of starting to play this in real life ;)
