Geralt looks very grainy in inventory

I tried setting anisotropic filtering tox16 and antialiasing transparency to supersampling x8 but its still looks shimmery as hell.
Im playing with everything maxed out, Dlss preset L (1080P rendering resolution from 2k) and ray tracing maxed. Ingame geralt and the world looks nice
The only fix was changing to taau or fsr but game looks so blurry and loses a lot of detail. I wanna use Dlss
Im using a rtx 5080

anyway to fix this, i really gave up

Well, seems you are using a UI mod - so it's not really how the game originally looks.
 
yes, but even vanilla the game has this problem. It does not matter if i use mods or not. Happens too with vanilla game

It's hard to say without a comparison between inventory and world, but the "grainy" effect is likely a result of either resolution or screen scaling.

DLSS, FSR, or XeSS will create a level of that. Or, if the game is drawing in a resolution that is non-native for your monitor, and the monitor is stretching or compressing the image to fill or fit the screen space, the same sort of thing can happen.

Quick test -- in the game's options menu:
1.) Set the game to draw at your monitor's native resolution: 1920x1080, 2560x1440, etc.
2.) Disable any supersampling in the game's options and seeing if the grainy effect goes away or becomes less noticeable. In other words, be sure the game is drawing at 1.0x resolution. (This should create a noticeable drop in performance.)

If it looks clean, you have your answer.
 
I tried DLAA and its the same. Grainy only in inventory.
Changing to another upscaler like fsr fixes the grainy inventory but looks awful

During gameplay looks sharp and detailed when using dlss preset L (i tested preset k, m)
But can't fix the inventory issue, so frustrating

Yes, different sampling will use different techniques and yield different results on different systems. This is almost definitely what's causing the models/textures on the inventory model to look different.

A game's default look is running in true resolution with supersampling, scaling, and anti-aliasing OFF.

  • True Resolution = your monitor's native resolution. 1:1 physical pixels. This is the only way to get a perfectly crisp image that takes up the entire screen space, and it depends on your monitor's physical characteristics. 1920x1080, 2560x1440, 2560x1080 (Ultra-Widescreen), etc.
    • Any form of scaling will "stretch" an image across multiple pixels, creating a blurry or fuzzy result, though how noticeable it is depends on how big a difference there is between the games rendering resolution (what you pick in the game's settings menu) and the monitor's native resolution.
      • ^ That can be negated by running at a lower resolution without scaling, which required either running in a window or running in fullscreen mode, which will create black borders around the smaller image.

  • Supersampling = DLSS (Nvidia technology), FSR (AMD techology), or XeSS (Intel technology). These are 3rd-party rendering techniques that are superimposed on top of a game's native rendering engine. They're not governed by the game's code; they're governed by the GPU manufacturer's driver suites.
    • ALL supersampling will introduce some level of pixelization or blurriness, though the extent of it depends on the game, hardware, and resolution.
    • The way a particular driver version interacts with that game version may produce different results on different PC configurations. (Hence, a weird blurriness or flickering image may appear on a RTX 4060, but not a 4070 or 4080.)
    • DLSS is only available on Nvidia GPUs, as it requires specific hardware on Nvidia cards to function. Both FSR and XeSS are software-based, so they'll work on most GPUs, including Nvidia's, but they're not as detailed and accurate as DLSS. So, if you have an Nvidia card, it's usually best to use DLSS.

  • Anti-aliasing = Exists as both an engine option and through a driver suite. However, only one of these should be used at a time, and should normally not be used with supersamling. Driver-level anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering will work as overrides for games, even if supersampling is also running, and that can sometimes result in weirdness.

So, if it's really bugging you, your options are:

1.) Continue experimenting with different supersampling options until you find a balance that looks good to you. You'll have to sacrifice some level of visual quality no matter what -- that's just how DLSS/FSR/XeSS work.

2.) Figure out a true resolution that will still run the game acceptably. Disabling supersampling will definitely decrease performance. The single biggest way to increase performance is to decrease the resolution. So if you have a 2560x1440 monitor, running the game in a 1920x1080 or 1600x900 window may give you good frames and a crystal-clear image. It will just be smaller than your screen.

3.) Try rolling back your drivers, as older versions may not have the inventory grain issue.
 
I made a lot of test, and can assure the problem is exclusive when enabling DLSS
It does not matter if I use DLAA (Native resolution) or DLSS quality, balanced, etc

Ingame looks sharp and very detailed, but inventory is the issue.
Even at 4K DLAA, the inventory looks grainy.

Only solution so far is using TAAU which blurries the ingame quality, but fixes the shimmering and grainy issue on the inventory. Or FSR and XeSS.

But DLSS (in this case Preset L) is the most detailed and sharpening image of them all. The only problem is the inventory:giveup:
 
FSR used to have the same problem. Here's the picture I submitted to AMD.


I assumed they fixed it through the drivers. But since you're using Nvidia, CDPR must have done something on their end. Maybe they disabled FSR upscaling in the menus. I don't know. Ask CDPR to fix it for DLSS in their next update. I haven't played the game in a while, but I remember XESS looking a bit grainy too.
 
If you find a driver package that works well with the game, save it. TW3 is now over 10 years old, so the disparity between the game and newer drivers will be more likely to exhibit issues. Keeping driver versions that you know work well with your system for this or that game is a great, simple way to ensure backwards compatibility. (I usually just throw them in a folder structure on an external HDD or something.)
