Darian, who are you to say which pronunciation is correct and which is incorrect? I submit to you that they are both correct sir per Webster's Dictionary.

I'm sorry if my post was ambiguous, but I was specifically talking about depictions of British as a dialect, rather than English as a language. As far as general English usage goes, both pronunciations are equally correct; however, this does not hold true to fictional works depicting a very European-style (and, often, specifically British-style) medieval-ish world. Thief is set in a fictionalised medieval England and many of the characters speak with typical British accents, therefore pronunciations should be those used by the British. Those with a real British accent would never pronounce vase as "vayze"; therefore, in the context of the world Thief is portraying, "vayze" is utterly incorrect.

Someone mentioned it before - many developers decide to give main character an American accent to make it more comprehensive for as many people as possible, even if the whole setting is more British in general, and the NPCs speak more BrE... And the same thing happens with TW, I suppose. And speaking about the Thief setting as of typically British is abusive a bit... It is - as TW setting as well - totally fictional. You would have a point if everyone but Garrett were saying 'vahze' - and even then It wouldn't be totally incorrect, beacause there's so much variety in pronounciation even among people from the same country.Plus it's an OT anyway ;]

Thief II and III were just excellent games, I hope they make a 4th. Theif III scared the begeezuz out of me in the sanitarium, freaked me out then when they were all looking for you towards the end of the game..... Loved it... great game.Now... give me TW .... I am not going to play nice much longer waiting..... :p

Speaking as an American I'd like to put in my two cents. I do like the english speaking voice, seems to fit his appearance well to me but I do understand other's PoV. Personally I think he'd sound great with a proper non American accent. Like for example.. someone like Viggo Mortensen has a really great accent that would sell well here in the states and also would assuage the possible protests of non American english speaking consumers.

I like the voice well enough. There is a good amount of malice and undertones to give you an impression about a guy whos bad side you dont want to get. Determination and disillusion. And Go for GeraltDiffernt accents in games arent very important for me. I am satisfied if I can make out what they are saying. For me the acting is far more important. If I offend someone in game they should sound offended or hesitant and unsure should they take offence or not. If someone disagrees with me on what I did or said it would be good if there were some passion behind their arguments instead of sounding like they read the responses out loud from the script. One of the TW videos showed the prisoner scene as a demonstration for branching the storyline. I would love to hear that discussion beetween the witchers without the guy explainning in the foreground

The accent of a voice actor only shows through on certain words--the guy who does Garrett from Thief, for instance, is only evidently American when he pronounces "vase" as "vayze" rather than "vahze", which would be the correct British pronunciation. If the work is done really carefully, even these occurrences can be avoided.

Darian, who are you to say which pronunciation is correct and which is incorrect? I submit to you that they are both correct sir per Webster's Dictionary. I have always had a very high regard for the English people....and every one I have ever met before I have enjoyed having them for company. I shutter to think that the English members on this forum are a good representation of their country as a whole. IMHO people from every nation need to leave their national popous attitudes, prejudices and jealousies toward peoples of other nations at the door when they post on a game forum....... Sorry for the rant I just had to get this grief off my chest. :) Hope everyone has a happy day! ;D

Mmmm well i would of thought a language called english came from a country called england. If this is the case, then the purest form of that language would come from the original source no ???.

Hi everyone. As someone else here said, i signed on to the forums just to reply to this!! HeheheI think the voice for the Eng dub is perfect. I must at this point admit that i have never read any of the books the game is based on, or watched the Polish tv series or anything. But to my understanding, according to what i have found out about the game, this takes place in a medieval FANTASY world, right? So, it is fair to say that, in this FANTASY world of the Witcher; there is no 'US' or 'England' or any of the other real places, right?? It just resembles something of Medieval Europe.. (please, do correct me on this if i am wrong. it's just my hypothesis, as i haven't read any of the source material) So, on that ground, it isn't really a matter if "an American accent fits him best" or "an English one"....I guess for the Polish fans, a more Polish-like English dub would feel more at home, but then again they would get the Polish dub, right? So it all comes down whether the voice fits the personality of Geralt. To my opinion, as i view Geralt from the videos and all, i think that this Eng sub voice fits him perfectly!! It is not "too American" or "too English" to me (i am not American, nor British). It is juuuust right. It fits his looks perfectly, and it's not too flashy or cocky... Something else that comes to mind is the fact that Geralt is a Witcher... I might say a blunder here, and please tell me so if i do, but experiments were done to him in order to make him a Witcher, right? Well, to me, this voice they put on these samples here, sounds as if his voice was somehow altered or affected, or even a result of some of those experiments. It sounds a bit too far fetched, but to me it kinda bonds the whole thing together.. :^)So, to conclude, i believe that i would really enjoy the game if this voice has been chosen for the Eng dub..

Well i dont have a problem with the voice being American ,but if you had read the ops post he asks what we think of the voice in regards to shakespeare,so it isnt about fantasy its about an accent of a real country. The voice in the game is fine i have no problem with it but it isnt true english I.E shakespeare, but the game is still looking great and i dont mind what accent he has aslong as i can understand him :D.

Hmm... it seems to me that what the ops say in their post:
We are very interested in your opinion about our witcher speaking the language of Shakespeare.
is just what they thought a different, more eloquent way to say "We are very interested in your opinion about our witcher speaking English". So i wouldn't cling on to that "..the language of Shakespeare" so much. I don't think the ops wanted to raise such a big issue as people make it in this topic...... :^)

Although I'd prefer Geralt speaking with a British accent, I got used to American English being used in 95% of games so it doesn't bother me much. What's more I'll be getting the Polish version anyway :pAs far as the English voice itself is concerned - Geralt sounds a little too inhuman and too cynical for me. In the books he was an normal guy in a not-so-normal body. We can see that he is a mutant, so at least he could sound like a human.
