The video game character shown in the trailers for TW3 looks like a run-of-the-mine white dude like in every other video game. He has no distinctive facial proportions. He looks like a generic 3D model with some fancy beard and scars attached to it. He has written lowest common denominator all over his forehead.

The painter of the comic instead gave Geralt a really distinctive look. His prominent chin, his shrunken cheeks, his big nose, his more "Slavic" facial proportions, the hard look on his face, his cat eyes, all of these distinctive traits give him a unique and way less generic look. In the comic he really looks like someone common people would probably fear ("raptor face"), no comparison to the generic and "statistical" look he has in the trailers for TW3 so far.

Even the Geralt in TW1 had a way more distinctive face. Is this the route to mainstream again? Making another generic white male character who looks barely different than most of the other video game characters out there???

PLEASE, CDPR, show some courage. Don't make Geralt a lowest common denominator character with the generic face of a white western model with some tagged on scars. Please have the balls to make him imperfect (scars not included). Please make him unique. Please make him the person he is, a witcher who has gone through too much, a person who has seen too much, a warrior who has become hard and unforgiving. You should be able to see all that while looking at his face. You shouldn't have to look in a generic face, made in a video game character face cloning factory instead of marked by a long and dangerous live and a cruel and radical mutation in his youth. :)

No need. Personally, I think that rule is stupid and I feel no need to enforce it on behalf of the moderators. I just want to know if it is still in effect or not so I can act appropriately. So ... do you know if it is still forbidden?

Maybe there's a light difference between a general post and a "mention" post. I don't know. Or just a matter of how much one can abuse of generosity of mods......

It's the comic which comes with the Witcher 2 EE on GOG.com IIRC. It's called "Reasons of State".

It's not forbidden, but it is discouraged, especially when the person concerned is known to be competent in English. It would also depend on context - there's a difference between posting in your own language to say "Hi!" when you find a compatriot to posting in your own language just because you feel like it - the forum language is English.

Now, could we get back on-topic please?

sry but I really hope CDPR won't listen to this
the comics were pretty bad and comic geralt looks freaking ugly
The Sword of destiny Geralt is perfect
I mean he has to be a bit attractive otherwise how the hell can he have sex with almost every
beautiful girl he meets it doesn't add up

Charisma, dude...

And attractiveness is based on many things, being handsome just one possibility and for males one of the weakest in a rough and dangerous world. Geralt was never described as physically attractive or handsome in the books, rather the opposite (which is displayed in the comic as well). He's attractive to some women because he is dangerous and powerful, a strange foreigner with a trained body and a lot of experience. That's especially true for powerful women themselves like sorceresses. Common girls never found Geralt that attractive, especially not if they get to see his eyes and his complete face (them being drunk made it a lot easier for him).

CDPR made Geralt this kind of womanizer. The original Geralt wasn't like that.

I agree, Geralt is ugly. But I also like the Geralt's face showed in Sword of Destiny trailer.

And buns, great hair, buns, nice eyes, buns, and sterility.

I think he's a little bit too pretty in some of the recent gameplay, but not by enough to make me want him changed. My only real dislike is the skin colour, but again, it's not a major issue.

Regarding the TW1 version, I have a vague memory of a developer comment during the TW2 development, that his TW1 face caused technical problems for the lip-sync software. I would agree with that - I made a short video once using a hi-poly model morphed to Geralt's TW1 face, and it was almost impossible to lip-sync automatically, the mouth and jaw were just a little bit too prominent.

In the Sword of Destiny trailer Geralt isn't only too pretty and too generic. His face is also too fat. He doesn't look like a warrior with an extremely trained body. He looks like someone who lay more in his hammock than fighting for his life on a daily basis. Just look at his fat cheeks and his way too round face. Also his chin is too soft. He doesn't look like someone who was exposed to nature and weather almost every day for a few decades...

-> He looks like a badass, sure. Like the badass we dream to be ourselves. Still kind of good looking but HARD. But nothing like a realistic badass, a real unique character. This Geralt doesn't look much different than Solid Snake for example. Take a streamlined 3D face which seems to be attractive to a lot of people and attach some badass features to it (beard, scars, badass look) and tada, here is your next badass character.

So, yes, of course we like the Geralt of the trailer. We want to be like Geralt ourselves. And that's the reason why he shouldn't look like that. ;)

Geralt isn´t ugly, he is depicted as a guy with certain charm, more for his charisma than his looks, but he looks "ok" to the girls, nothing special, but not ugly.

I totally agree with you, dude.
I said it once and I'll say it again... Geralt, on these recent 2014 gameplay demos, looks like he's chewing marbles! I mean, come on!? What the heck happened to him on the cheeks? Did somebody during some quest whipped him silly? His cheeks are swollen! And don't tell me that he's getting old, because from the Debut trailer we get a narrator introducing the time frame of the Witcher 3 setting, saying: "Six month into the invasion...so on and so forth..." Geralt shouldn't be looking "that" old since the end of the Witcher 2.

After reading hundreds of posts about our expectations and criticism and taste.... welll I think CPDR has a lot of dammit luck having mature follower fans of a mature game.I cannot imagine how The Blues could control that mess should be if we were non-mature teenagers fanboys.... ;)

I think the scar looks a little too fresh or new. My scars are a bit lighter, they are only red when new. Skin should be less dark in that area.

As many (including me) have said: the facial structure itself is done well. it's the too wealthy look in his face that kinda destroys it for me right now.
In the quoted picture it's better than ingame (in the gameplay vids, f.exp), though.
I think somebody as Geralt, who is constantly on the brink of being broke, constantly exercising or fighting, always exposed to nature should have a lean, "worn in" look on his face, hungry, wolfish - meaning slim, slightly fallen in cheeks (low bodyfat percentage), imperfect skin (important, Geralt is no model, he's a rough badass), prominent features.
Unnaturally noticable eyes (one of his main features). He's supposed to look like a real character, not some random model-ish guy with a scar and contact lenses to add uniqueness.

I think CDPR has still some work to do on Geralt,
