Geralt's hair

I think that everybody noticed colour of G's hair. According to the books, his hair must be "white like a milk".
In the first game it was so.But from W2 we see that Geralt's hair is more ashen than white. And for correction of this we had a special mod that made hair whiter.
In the trailer "W3" we also can notice that his hair isn't white.
I think that developers should do something with it. =)

I agree, his gets darker with each game. In TW1 it was milky white, but with TW2 it was more like "the silver wolf." And in some of the new TW3 screenshots it looks even darker, the short parts of his haircut are more like charcoal grey.

A mod author made a great mod for TW2 called "Return of the White Wolf" which gave back Geralt his white hair. At worst, I'm sure someone can do the same thing for TW3.

I'm fine with a bit of artistic liberty when it comes to the color of his hair, I just don't like the hairstyle he has in the screenshots...buzzcut under a ponytail.

Would it have anything to do with him getting older?

Eh, probably not.

Since Witchers don’t age like regular humans and Geralt lost all the pigments in his hair, yes, probably not.

I wonder why the devs made this decision though seeing as it’s clearly a deliberate choice.

No, probably too much unfiltered UVA rays and few protective shampoo

... or doesn’t wash it enough, what with villages always burning down left and right and ash raining down on him

I think ..for the maturity of the game milky white is a bit childish. Little grey there&here is an excellent idea.

They should just turn Geralt's hair into a morality system; it gets darker or lighter depending on your actions.

DICHOTOMIES EVERYWHERE!

Purely artistic choice, I guess. It just fits their overall vision of Geralt better. I didn't use the Return of the White Wolf mod, because Geralt 2.0 looks a bit weird with the white hair. I guess the overall intention of the redesign was to make him look more like a wolf, thus the broader shoulders and more prominent jawline, etc. The ponytail was part of that process, too, I guess, making his face stand forth more by making the lines in his hair completely front to back. And the gray hair just fits that new overall look, I think.

Although I could do with a few shades brighter, admittedly. ;)

White as milk doesn't really work that great in games, especially here, yea might be like that in books but please, hair looks great in all three games :)

Yea I did get the feeling they avoided milky white to not give an anime vibe or something.

I still prefer milky white though, but it's not a big deal for me and it's easily modable.

Sticking too much to book details is unnecessary, let them make their adaptation as they desire.

You should ask yourself “Why am I changing this?” though when messing with the source material since the original creator will have had his reasons for doing what he did. Here there seems to be no particular reason for changing it.

wat

Why does milky white mean “childish” to you? If anything I would say that said hair color has connotations on the extreme opposite side of maturity. Wisdom in old age and all that.

Yeah, including the first one, right? In which his hair is as white as milk :)

I kinda wish they'd make it white again. No worries, if REDkit is updated, I'll mod it myself.

This, please. As long as it is fits very well, 'hurrr 100% lore accuracy, no change at all' is not needed. I prefer the TW2 hair myself.

Any words on whether it will support the REDkit at launch?

It worked well with TW1's renderer, but I suspect it might be too luminous with bloom-heavy graphics.

Examples where bloom does the Wrong Thing with white: http://gangles.ca/2008/07/18/bloom-disasters/

This seems the most reasonable reason for it (if you'll forgive the repetition).
