Since it´s still a while till Q1 2011, there still can be some changes... :-*(*at least I hope so*)

Discussion of Geralt's new look is going on in three different threads simultaneously. :whatthe:It's not cool to post the same thing in three different threads, but I don't want to be left out of the discussion, either. So I'll just post a link to what I said about Geralt's new appearance in one of the other threads: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=27658.msg5396054#msg5396054

You guys are being very close-minded about his appearance and voice. Did you ever consider that maybe he looks different for a reason? Geralt wasn't always known as The White Wolf you know...my guess is that this was either during his days as a fledgling witcher or even training to become a witcher. It's obvious that there's going to be a very good reason for his new appearance. Yeah he looked awesome in the first game, but you guys need to hear out the reasons before attacking it.
Yes we know... we are still speculating...i did mention a couple of posts ago that 'that scenes' might be a flashback to during his mutation when he started getting the white hair and eyes...we as fans are just concerned and airing those concerns thats all.RIght now its all speculation. In fact like i mention earlier my guess is those are scenes from a flashback which maybe we get to play a time of Geralt's life during his mutation. Hey man dont forget, we love the Witcher and are RPG fans! Our minds conjure up all kinds of ideas....dont think we didnt think of that possibility that you suggested. Its just that we are coming together to air our concerns thats all. Its still too early to judge.
Understandable, it's difficult to take in the changes made to a new character, especially one that you connect to so deeply either through the game or books. I'm not concerned at all about how the rest of the game will turn out but I can agree with the feelings on his appearance changes. Honestly if they just took off that Kevin Costner ponytail I'd be fine with his look.
Lol, yeah but on the contrary i remember reading up some dev saying that actually the original interpretation of Geralt from the comics was mainly ponytail but somehow with the engine they had it did not translate well thus they animated with hair down instead. Now with technology if they can animate the ponytail effectively enough, i think we as fans should accept that. We must remember that if the developers are doing their best to bring their best vision of Geralt with the available tech, we should appreciate it. I honestly welcome the ponytail even though it does not look "as cool" because the ponytail better represents the original vision of Geralt. The face however, well we can only wait and see because there well may be a valid reason. While i do agree, initial impressions are unfavourable more than favourable among most fans.

I knew this would happen thats why i opened this thread less than 5 minutes after this forum opened! Lol! It was so that all can consolidate their concerns on his looks on this thread.

Yeah they definitely do have the best intentions when creating his image. One thing I noticed reading the short story and Blood of Elves book, though, was that he didn't really feel like a total badass all the time so the image from the game never really matched up with what I pictured him as while reading. He just felt like a normal guy with a badass profession, and not some guy who never smiled or was always dead serious. I just can't wait till they clear this up lol

Hi! good thread. :peace:Yes I totally agree with the general consensus. I don't like Geralt's new face, he does in fact look like a handsome hollywood action hero, which I find rather ridiculous. The face is just off, he looks younger, like moremainstream. The eyes are just totally off also. And the ponytail looks ridiculous too imo. I don't understand why CD Project don't just stick to the old model, since everyone obviously liked it so much and adopted it so easily. I mean, Geralt is not supposed to look like that. The reason I got so caught up with the game in the first place (and I imagine I'm not the only one), was because of the uniqueness of the character, it offered something completely new and original, the true Geralt. Ever since, I became and avid fan of the game and the books. Also, I really like the old english voice a whole lot better. In summary, CD Project: please just stick to the old please, but above all, stick to what is true to the saga (looks and personality wise).Still all in all, I have complete faith that CD Project will pull it off again!!!Cheers!

While i have not yet read Blood of Elves and cannot speculate, i remember that the intro did say that the game took place 5 years after the events of the war. So i think theres a time lag from the book to the game right? 5 years of experience can really be seen i think...hed be so used to the killing and his fair share of dealing with people of different shady personalities and what not.

What the f*ck. Unbelievable, this emo with ponytail is definitely NOT Geralt. Where is heroic, rough, unique Witcher, where is the white wolf? Give me a hero, whom everyone looks up to and I want to play, not hello kitty haistyle experiment. :(

I have to disagree. To me, the Gerlat in the first game feels a lot like the ones from the books (Last Wish and Blood of Elves).I think there is a difference between "bad-ass" and "cold/severe". Bad-ass is only and option you where given in the game, Geralt was never really like that, but the game being an RPG and all, it gave you the option to play Geralt as a bad-ass (type of guy telling everyone to go f*** themselves and stuff). Consecuently, the game also lets you play as a "good-ass" Geralt if you so wish.God thing you bring up the book Blood of Elves. There is a powerful scene that came to my mind when reading your comment.
When Ciri interrupts a conversation Triss and the witchers are having in Kaer Morhen, and says she is learning to avenge hereself and her people and to kill the black knight, which is an understandable feeling given her circumstances. Still, Geralt has none of it and grounds here. Vesemir regrets Geralt's reaction and tells him he is "much too severe".
This scene shows us clearly that Geralt can be emotionaly very severe. The is a reason why people find him and his gaze so cold. But it has nothing to do with being a bad-ass, in fact, all the contrary, it's because he is a good guy, I think ;)

THERE WE GO!!!SEE FELLAS! NO WORRIESCourtesy of szypek here is confirmation!!

This is what Blooddragon (lead artist) SAID about Geralt's look: "Wait for more materials. Don't judge Geralt's new image by one movie with unfortunatelly set up mimics. It would be better to judge new look by THIS image - it's our target"I'm staying calm 8)
All in good time!! SO now that we can rest easy, there is a new topic to debate! What "geralt' DID we see in the trailer? :hmmm: :hmmm:Ill start the ball rolling,My guess is that what we saw was a flashback or an opportunity to play Geralts earlier years as a fledging witcher coming into his own. It might have been midway through his mutation years ago. LET THE RUMORS AND SPECULATIONS ROLL!

You do realize it was one of Geralts original looks to have a ponytail before the games were released as seen in this picture:http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20070720023651/witcher/images/3/39/Geralt_komiks_1.JPGseriously gamers these days just try to find whatever reason they can to complain about anything."oh no this looks to different""oh no now it looks too similar"christ...

Yeah man! Thats what ive been trying to say like 5 posts in a row. The ponytail was the ORIGINAL form!!! I guess some fellas just dont take the time to back read the thread. Ah well, we are all excited and all is forgiven. Now that szypek has confirmed that our fears are nothing to worry about, enjoy guys!

I believe what we saw was a Beta version (Beta meaning "the best it could be up to this point") so there is room for improvement. Also, I think we only saw the in-game Geralt with cut-scene probably while the pic from the Polish side Daerdin pointed out isa cinematic representation just like what we saw in the opening/closing cinematics of The Witcher (or maybe concept art?).I'll attach the pic for those who skim posts or are too lazy to open links. :peace:

That IS good news!
But why do we have to depend on the kindness and generosity of Polish fans for basic information like this? On the day the trailer is released, why isn't somebody talking to the international forum, in addition to the Polish forum?(Given that they aren't, I'm very grateful for the kindness and generosity of szypek, but it doesn't seem as if we should have to depend on him.)

I know what you mean. Personally, I just didn't like the ponytail Geralt had on the trailer (nor his overall look.) But it doesn't mean I'm against a ponytail from the start. I was aware of the previous Geralt with the ponytail. That image you posted just a moment ago, now THAT is a good looking ponytail (and overall look) I think. So thanks for that info.Cheers!(ok enough with the ponytail now!!!)

Ok fellas i tried my best to find the post and do a google translate of the original polish post of the Lead Character Artist Blooddragon and this is what i got::"Wait for a little more material, appreciate the new head after a shot from the unfortunate set mime. Would be more appropriately assessed render Geralt appearing on GameTrailers (the greenish) - this is our target. The choice of hairstyles I have written several times about the fact that information about the removal of a pony CDAction wyssało the finger, also written "This is the link http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=27657.msg5395780#msg5395780My intepretation of the translation is "Wait for more material, and it will be more appropriate to assess the Render of Geralt that appears on the trailer of Gametrailers website. The greenish picture. This is our target render."EDIT : Oh wait! szypek did a better translation ill copy it : "Wait for more materials. Don't judge Geralt's new image by one movie with unfortunatelly set up mimics. It would be better to judge new look by THIS image - it's our target"There you have it boys! And heres the picture they are supposedly referring to courtesy of corylea:

And girls, please! Can't imagine why Geralt has so many female fans, but he does.
Probably because he's the strong, silent and mysterious type ;)And I agree with the consensus on Geralt's new appearance. Bring back the old, rugged but still handsome look!
