Girls Chamber

Veary intesting ;)that is a veary nice Viewpoint form a female gamer Now speaking as a old gamer here ;DI think most of us are looking more for a mature themes is because we grew up and want more then just fluff. And I dont think it matter what sex one is anymore. Not just in game but also in the books we read movies we wach and so on.And in time the younger games that come along as well will grow up and want the same thing.

That brings up an interesting point, actually. What is it that female gamers want, if anything different to what male gamers want? Are there certain genres you tend to avoid? Ones which you tend to be more drawn to?Personally I'll play absolutely anything once, but I tend to get bored extremely quickly and there are very few games which capture my attention for long. The only ones I can really play with any regularity are competitive games.
Hmm... I play and enjoy cRPG and its kind (Spellforce rts/rpg style for example, I have always thought that games such as S:OfD have huge potential... a pity that the developers didn't expoilt them to the end ),and only that to be honest. Sometimes I have this passing fancy to play a strategy game, yes, but this are rare occasions. I just don't have time to do EVERYTHING, and so I concentrate on fantasy and rpg as my major 'aftertime' interests. I also hope to start writing my own mods when I only get a little more time ;/ Time is now a huge issue for me.. or lack of it, to be precise.

I am just posting my thoughts ladies, I am not a lurker or some sick on line whaco, I run a computer business and I am always interested in what female Gamer Girls want, The largest drawback I see here with The Witcher, is women were yet again steriotyped, and no femal "lead" character, this of course is probably due to the actual story this game is comming from, but I would personally like to see a "kick butt" female lead in the future. I am presnetly looking for any females interested in working with me on Moding this game and creating an actual game from scrathc, well close to scratch. I have purchased a very expensive 3D engine nearly all the tools needed. I have written most of the dialog and story. If your interested, or just want to chat, please visit me. http://www.rpggamerpro.comhttp://www.pctechhelp.net

I made a thought yesterday. If there was a female main character of a RPG who would act like Geralt, drinking, talk hard, and have sex with anyone stands in her path, what would players think about her?Would they call her names, or what? ( I 'd love a character like that! )

There is a name for a woman like that A Woman that knows what she want and dose not care what anyone thinks

I concur! Why should a woman be bad when she does the very same thing a guy does?If we had a doodle we probably would pee in standing position instead crouching behind a bush and harvesting ticks with our butt-cheeks.But how many guys have invaded this girls chamber? *eyes everyone*Now to the topic.I read about Wiedzmin a long while ago and was intrigued about the story and what the game designers had all in mind. When I saw first concepts and also the talks about a real swords-master doing motion-capturing poses for Geralt I wanted that game badly. During that time no english translation of the books existed *sigh* Well, I am actually german - yet I prefer to play games, read books, watch movies with english synch - unless the german synch is the original one.It had been quite a while when a game really made me obsessed and this game most definitely has done this =)It's like an addiction and when I am not working my mind circles around Temeria and its possebilities. The last time I had been so extremely obsessed with something, had been with Ultima - especially Serpent Isle... damn I was so cranky when Dupré killed himself... gnah.Over all those years, most fantasy role play games have been rather sterile and if someone tried to introduce erotic or smutty talk / bad language into a game it was somehow too generic and lousy. The books and the game of Wiedzminreflect for me a realistic world in all its filthy, interesting, with bad and good people inahbiting glory.I have my basement full with old computer game boxes and loads of fantasy books and I am still hogging more. I simply refuse to throw away old games, even if they don't run on my current PC anymore. To give an example what kind of authors I adore because of their style: Doris Egan, G. R. R. Martin, David Eddings, Robert Asprin, Michael Moorcock and many more of the old school authors. What I write: Dark Poems (but only if I am in mood) and Dark Fiction Stories. For those who want to know, I'm just another network administrator who fancies herself something of a writer and hopes to become an author who actually publishes her work, one day. Aside from that, I'm a 30 years old female, married and constantly competing with my husband over the fact, who spends more time at the computer. I want to proof that even a woman can be a real geek. About me: Species & Behavior: Female geek. Curiuos about the world and other creatures. Solitariy shy nature, until meeting other female or male geeks. Afraid of boredom, crowds, narrow sighted ignorant/arrogant people. Verbally aggressive; only if pushed. Defenses: Artful use of words of diplomacy and if that doesn'thelp - going into Ignore-Stance. Offense: Sarcasm or snark, which sadly gets lost most of the time, as the female geek usually gets annoyed by stupid people who have not enough brain to understand any of these verbal attacks. Using head, fists/nails, knee, feet for violent purpose, if verbal defenses or attacks fail. Diet: Meat & Green - Hot & Spicy, Sweet & Sour, as long it's NOT dog, cat, horse, dolphin, whale, genitals and entrails, or any sort of insect/creeper. (Rattlers/Snakes are good, especially fried in a pepper & salt crust) Red Wine (fruity and dry), Ice Tea, Mineral Water (with loads of bubbles!) or hot tea of all sorts. From time to time, a beer is appreciated as well, but not needed. Sweets are well liked, but not recommended! Habitat: P&P Den and Computer Room. Mostly dim; the light of the screen and the warmth of the computer is enough to feel homey. Too much sun leads to sun burn, decreased creativity. It makes the geek sleepy and lazy. Tools of the Trade: Preferred tool is the brain. Computer, Keyboard, Mouse, MDA/PDA, Pencil, Paper. Cats & Dust Puppies - they are known to soothe the female geek and increase brain power after one cuddle session. Activity Cycle: Nocturnal - when the creative flow begins to squirm out of all pores. Diety: Mr. Agnostic Alignment: Lawful Neutral in its peaceful state Lawful Evil, if annoyed or Chaotic Evil when cornered. Candy for the ears: Heavy Metal (Melody, Epic, Power, Classic) and Rock with smart lyrics. For creative flow, mood music like irish folk, classic, or minstrel music is highly recommended. Candy for the brain: Fantasy, ScienceFiction Books, Games and Movies. Candy for the eyes: Geeks are known to hoard goodies or all sorts, which they love to look at frequently. (Not to mix up with the Messy!)

Hello Ladies :)Hope i'm not intruding in an all girls club lol, just wanted to say how refreshing it is to see women gamers. true the early days of gaming were dominated by us "anti-social" males, but with are world getting smaller and the internet getting better that ,that is changing in a very good way. Girl gamers just rock!!! The more girls out there playing will just force game companies to make deeper and better story lines in thier games. 8) Making the games an even better experience for us guys too. on a side note; whenever there is a choice between male or female characters in a game i tend to pick a female one, guess it goes back to the days of "Charlie's Angels" and i always wanted to be Charlie lol,so for me its not a matter of role-playing my avatar in the 1st person. MMO's are a different story though since its more of an interactive social environment i'll stick to being a guy. though can say about 70% of the female avatars ive run into in D&D online, everquest 1 & 2, and other mmo's were gender confused men. Reminds me of that one time in the Frankfurt hauptbahnhof,,, couldn't figure out why the hot chick had such a big adam's apple,,,,but thats a different story

A new review popped up recently on the web and it seems that the reviewer's being extremely negative on the whole game just because of how male/female relations were handled by CDPR. The article can be found here.A series of replies to the review can be found here. Banksie's post (3rd one down) should definitely be read, as it tries to restore some unbiased arguments into the discussion. As usual, enjoy and post your reactions,

Hmm quite a bunch of banned posters there. Sometimes I wonder how narrowsighted people can get...But it's good to see that there are still people who look at The Witcher with a more brain than others...Just because a game offers the chance plowing every third maid in the way it is still up to the player if he decides to do so.I am a girl, and I let Geralt have his stag night often enough just for the fun of it - it all depends on how serious one takes it.Sure, I would have loved to see a bit more depth on the Triss/Shani relationship dialogues - yet what was offered in the game was pure fun despite of this... so I am not complaining.Besides who complain about it just should walk the streets at night in their nearest biggest town... I bet there are quite a bunch of street hussies waiting for a John.. And that girls nowadays are much more relaxed when it comes to sex... it's a truth no one can dismiss (at least not in the countries that offer women equal rights to men) so in my opinion The Witcher wasn't too unrealistic with it either. And since when is the truth and reality such a bad thing?

@Rhian I gree with you 100 and 1% Im a guy and yea I will let Geralt have his fun as well but dont go out of my way to bed every woman he meets it all boils donw on how one want to play Geralt that my take on it.

I checked out the Escapist's review columns once because I was entertained by Yahtzee's Zero Punctuation reviews. I was less than impressed and I only go to their site to watch his videos. Even those are steadily going downhill. So this kind of claptrap from them doesn't come as much of a surprise to me, frankly. The funny thing is that the comments from the users are actually much more informative about the game than the review itself. To me that review is somewhat analagous to Jeremy Clarkson going on Top Gear and saying "Well, here's a car, I didn't really bother to test the brakes, or the boot space, or even actually drive it more than a couple of minutes. But the colour sucks, so it's a crap car."I did find it a little strange that every woman I met was either an old hag with her tits hanging next to her stomach, or a young woman with cans larger than her head.Add a little common sense, though, and it's obviously just in the same category as having three "reverends" walking around in town after he was such an important character in the first act.A bit more effort and variety with the models would have been welcome, but the reviewer chooses to ignore a perfectly valid criticism to focus on what he incorrectly perceives as a sexist aspect to the game.To me it sounds like the guy's never met a real woman. His partner obviously wears the trousers in the relationship, and he's bitter about it and believes all women should be soft, innocent, cute, and demure rather than actually standing up for themselves and getting what they want.but yeah, of course, the game's the sexist one *rolleyes*.

So I read the article mentioned above. I'd have to agree with him on some of the problems he mentioned with the game play however, in defense of the game, I had such a great time playing The Witcher, those things didn't really bother me all that much.
Even certain inventory items bear the description "Can be sold or given as a present to a woman." Hmm. I guess men don't get presents in The Witcher.
Does this guy have an issue with Geralt being straight? =bSeriously though, I'm a female and I wasn't offended by the testosterone level of this game. As already stated, you have a choice, to do or not to do. ;p

Hello everyone,I'm a female gamer, and I frankly couldn't care less whether a game is aimed at guys or not, because the storyline is still just as good (or not in some cases lol). I agree with what Tyranith and Lilith says really, I'm never offended by apparent "sexism" in a game, I bought The Witcher knowing full well what it contained, but it really makes no difference to me. Personally I'm sick of people being a bunch of prudes. The sexual scenes in the game are pure fun, and I see no problem with it at all. It's not exactly full nude sex anyway!

From my experience people who throw around words like "sexism" and "racism" are usually people who have no idea what those words really mean.My theory is it gives people an ego-boost when they think they're on their moral high-horse, standing up for the poor little hard done by females who get physically abused by their husbands because they played this misogynistic video game. It's sickening that there really is stuff like that going on, but when there's a video game with a black guy getting shot, or a woman getting sexed, it gets targeted because no one has any clue or balls to do anything about the real issues - much easier to sit there from your armchair and throw around ridiculous accusations that can't be adequately defended against by innocent entertainment businesses.Someone else brought up an excellent point - I can't remember where I read it - that people who cry that there's sexism in this game are essentially endorsing everything else that they don't point out. In The Witcher that means racism, violence, corruption, deceit, crime, and a ton of other morally reprehensible actions. The point of the game is to immerse you in a game world where things like that do exist (It's supposed to be a realistic/believable and mature world, after all). Whether you embrace them or not is up to you. Those things are commonplace and Geralt can rise above them or not by your own actions. That those things exist in the game world means nothing, and I doubt the developers or publishers are trying to encourage people to go around and chop people up with a sword. It's a game, not a political statement. There may even be sexism in the game, heck it could even be argued that Geralt is sexist, but you can also choose to be racist.Take Oblivion - stealing and murdering are perfectly viable pastimes in that game world, and even reap rewards via those actions. You can even carve up whole towns with nary a consequence, but I don't see anyone crying about that. Apparently some people would rather live next to someone who murders and steals for fun rather than someone with a preconception about women. Wait, don't all people technically have preconceptions about everything anyway? Oops, there goes that logic. They're not being raped, either, so accordingly women shouldn't/can't think and decide for themselves? Now who's being sexist?I guess the next thing to do is to make a game where you play a black chick who goes around raping and killing whiteys, spics, and nips. I bet no one bats a fucking eyelid.

;) I 'm with you, completely. Yeah, don't you know, that sex is a "crime"?
...much easier to sit there from your armchair and throw around ridiculous accusations that can't be adequately defended against by innocent entertainment businesses.
As i said, i 'm with you, but i only want to say this: there is no innocent entertainment business. If i watch a thriller where the fist one who get killed is the dog of the family, well, i get really angry. Why the dog? It 's more morale to "kill" the dog in the movie, than a child? I mean, this teaches people that the life of a dog doesn't mean anything, "yeah, the bad guy killed him, it's not big deal, the humans will be safe, well, a few strangers will also die , but the happy family will be safe!"...You know what i mean? There is no innocent entertainment. We must watch the movies and play the games with a critical eye always.

My point was that people shouldn't be looking for their morals and values in entertainment. They should be taught them from family/community/school.The entertainment industry isn't responsible for teaching values, and shouldn't be, so in that respect it's "innocent".If people learned all their morals from TV/films/games the world would be an even more fucked up place than it is now. That people do learn some morals from those things is a failing of modern society and not, I feel, a responsibility of entertainers.People are very unwilling to take responsibility for their own actions nowadays. Why bother teaching your kids when films and the internet will do it for you? *slap forehead*

Oh, come on! You live with that faillures, don't you know it? People don't bother to learn from their own actions, thoughts, beliefs. They don't have beliefs! Haven't you ever seen them? And, yeah, they leave their kids watching TV all day, make them like vegetables, even the school makes them like that! So, yes, entertainment is one of the ways that "help" the brain damage of all people, not only the childrens'. All i see around me is fools, and they don't know it! They think themselves nice and smart, but they have never made the act of thinking. It's impossible for them. So, a little smarter TV, wouldn't help them? If it's the only thing they do...

*chuckles* This is no longer a girls chamber. Too many XY subjects in here!I doubt that mankind will ever be able to accept their responsebilty regarding their kids when it comes to entertainment. As I see it there are 4 type of parents:1. Those who don't permit their kids computer and TV at all, because they strictly believe in non technological enterainment... and I am not talking about the Amish 2. Then those who do it totally the other way around and don't care at all what they kids get to see... and they even won't complain (unless their kid runs amok and kills others)3. People who want to be good parents by controlling what their Kids do, but not by doing the controlling themselves. Nope, they expect the goverment and companies to do so. For example when a american created game like Everquest has player-toons that show 40 % of their buttocks because they wear leather pants... they all scream havoc and hell. Well, they forget the fact that their kids get to see more skin at the local bath or beach...4. Parents with healthy idea how to deal with all the stuff. But this kind of parents are rather rare... and sadly Type 3 of those parents try to see themselves as type 4... I know plenty of kids who watch movies, series, and play computer games that are actually not for their age. (nope not porn, but to give you an idea - one was just six years old and yet she watched all the Lord of the Rings movies and she is a total fantasy fan. Another played Doom3 - he is just twelve years old, loves Stephen King and wants to become a horror story author.)None of them is mentally ill or whatever. They are pretty good at school, have friends, take good care of their pets, and a healthy relationship to reality. None of them would run amok and kill fellow students and then claim it was because they have seen it some computer game or movie. And why is that? Because their parents actually care and take this kind of thing into their own hands instead demanding it from companies... Parents (should) know what their kids can handle and what not and by being extreme in either direction is simply wrong.
