GOG: cloud saves sync to Win7 - not working

Dear all!

I played Witcher 3 in 2016 on my Windows 10 PC and made a very very very stupid decision to not back up my saves manually.

Right now I only have access to a prehistoric gaming laptop with Win7. I installed Witcher 3 on it through GOG and when I log in to the game, I see in the "Extras" section that my cloud saves are there! But every time I try to either manually download them or sync them, the error message is displayed "there was a problem/error downloading your cloud saves".

Can somebody confirm this is because of Win7 missing some weird plugin or some shit? If I go to my friend's house and install GOG on his Win10 PC, will that let me download my saves?

If you installed the new next gen version of witcher 3 that might also cause issues considering how old the save games are.
I am not sure if it’s windows 7 related or not.
