Let's review the facts: Regarding footage on ultra ahead of release , Marcin said:
Not sure but that's a good idea and something we will definitely look into.
Damien said what he said. EvilChris said what he said. It seems to me REDS' stance has evolved or, more accurately, clarified and at the very least that encourages some latitude when looking at Marcin's previous answer. Because, I'm so very sorry, but nobody, nobody, has ever come up with a reasonable explanation, a legitimate reason as to why REDs would be justified in not showing footage on ultra ahead of release. If somebody has a decent explanation - other than the completely non credible attempts made so far - let him come forward.
And should I take Marcin's words as Gospel? Is that the only possible reaction you would equate with «caring»?I love the man, but he declared a trio of passable screenshots «great». And here's the thing: this goes both ways. You can't keep mentioning there's still a couple of months to improve things without honestly also acknowledging that things can also deteriorate further and render Marcin's answers to the aforementioned questions outdated, much in the same way his reply to the footage on ultra suggestion appears to now be outdated. Caution, my friend, Caution when evaluating this sort of statements.
I'm doing good thanks for asking
Listen, I personally dont believe the story that Ultra is for release only. I think it was something Monnier said improvising, and now CDPR are using that statement as if it was part of a strategy, but I dont think it is at all.
IMO this is what they are doing: "let's say Ultra will be seen just at release, so that if we make new trailers and people dont like them, we can keep saying its High, and then improve based on the complains for when release actually happens" This is actually somewhat reasonable, because remember the two months before release, that work from the team, will have to come in a day one patch, because disks get made before. So I think the statement is their way of saying "there's a real possibility the game will look at its best at release, and not before"
And honestly, seeing how many comments are out there screaming "downgrade!!!", maybe they dont want to give hopes to a whole bunch of people that are impossible to satisfy anyway. Even if Ultra would miraculously look much better than High in all fronts, the hate TW3 gets at this point is beyond graphics, beyond art direction, and beyond rationality, so what they do is just let people believe in release day or not by themselves.
I think at this point absolutely nothing can be done about the "hardcore" downgrade crowd, whatever trailer or comparison CDPR gives them, they won't believe that at least
some part of the game wasnt downgraded. All that there is left are those doubting, like you and me maybe, who could use Ultra footage, but again, why confirm to us how the game looks before release? whats the point? CDPR knows TW3's core sales come from people who like RPGs and story based games, and that the graphic whores are impossible to convince, so why show it when the game could look better after the Ultra trailers?
Its just very complicated, there are too many variables and possibilities, and CDPR see everything from a different perspective to. I dont think there's any explanation that convinces me much for their behavior, but at the same time I can totally believe there might be some good ones, that I couldn't possibly know. So thats my stance basically, some moves are just the result of a long chain of events that is far beyond my scope and knowledge, in this complex situation it'd be highly unlikely that there wouldnt be some kind of reason to hide Ultra, its unrealistic, so i keep that chance open.
Other than that, about Marcin's word, I never "believe" what he says just like that, I was just reporting what he said to the other guy, nothing more, and what Badowski said in one of the later interviews. If its true or no I don't know, I think part of it is, and another part isnt.
