Sorry to inform you but a GT 240 Graphics card is VERY low-end, so its not really suprising at all that you have to play on low settings and still have problems. I'd recommend upgrading to a more recent modell such as 560Ti or aequivalent .

Hey there,

I agree that my vga is a bit out of date but not that much.
I mean..The difference on my setup between ultra and very low are like 3 fps.
Besides, the recommended settings say 250 GT that isn't really better at all.
Guess i will upgrade my card then. I like the game and are not ammused by the lags I get.

Thanks for your reply though.

Sincerly,

Chris

No, the difference between the GT 240 and the GTS 250 is huge -- almost double the performance. And the GTS 250 is not the "recommended" card; it's not far above the "minimum" card. 8800 GTS 512 == 9800 GTX/GTX+ == GTS 250. The "recommended" GTX 260 is another 50% more powerful than the 250.

This game plays poorly when you try to send a little boy to do a big man's job: drive a large display with a small graphics card. If you want to use a GT 240, you are going to get poor frame rate at any settings on a 1920x1280 screen. Even the GTS 250 isn't enough for 1920x1280. You have to reduce resolution. 1280x720 is a big step down in pixel count, giving you a big boost in performance.

Hey,

Well thanks :)

Then i guess i have to get me a new card. Have to admit that i don't know much about the hardware :/
I will try to lower the resolution and look what happens. Thanks again.

Greetings

edited: Changing it from 1920x1080 to 1280x720 at least gave me an avarage of 30 fps.

Yeah, that's very much like what I've seen on other low-range cards. The game puts a premium on how fast you can crunch pixels, and the more pixels on the screen, the more work the GPU has to do. Often 1280x720 is playable but higher resolutions are not.

The nVidia GTX 560Ti is very popular with players of this game right now, but it is expensive and power-hungry. The GTX 550Ti is a big step down from that, but much easier on budgets and power supplies.

My power should be around 600 watt. Didn't check that for a while.
The rest of my hardware should be enough to handle the witcher 2. So i guess it will be a new vga.
Regarding to my hardware setting and my budget atm ( around 100€ ) what can you recommend me?

regarding to you, this would do the job, right: http://www.hiq24.de/products/Grafikkarten/NVidia/PCI-Express/NV-GF-GTX550-Ti-1024-MB-ASUS-ENGTX550-Ti-HDMI-DVI.html

(It's in german)

Thanks for your help. I am really thankfull.

See if you can pick up a GTX460 instead around that price. They're about £110-130 now.

There are three very different GTX 460's that you may find: the 768MB model, the 460SE 1GB model, and the 460 (not SE) 1GB model.

The last of those, the 460 1GB, is the only desirable one. But a number of ignorant or unscrupulous vendors try to pass the others off as it (especially advertising the 460SE as just "460").

i5 2500k @ 3.9GHz
8GB RAM
2x AMD HD6870 1GB [CrossFire]

All Ultra with UberSampling disabled

Before EE: solid 60FPS, NEVER dropped
After EE: 25-30FPS

Nothing to do with my system.

Switching to medium settings returns the same result, 25-30FPS.

Tried disabling AA, motion blur, DOF, turning down settings but nothing works. Also tried turning off CrossFire, which made the game run slightly better by 3-5FPS.

Tried Catalyst 12.3, with CAP1 profiles and BETA 12.5s, no change.

I can max out BF3 and Metro 2033 with 2xMSAA at 60fps, but this game doesn't work? You can't explain that.

Don't know if its something to do with this patch cause I never had the game before, but im finding the game unplayably jerky at all settings but low on everything with cinematic DoF off and the res down to the lowest setting. Which is ironic cause its looks so bad its unplayable... Heres my specs, I've played both crysis games with this so its kind of unexpected...

Processor- Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @2.4 ghz
RAM- 4gb
Graphics Card- Gforce 9800 GTX, latest drivers

crossfire (I have 2x5850s) works badly for me if i'm using the default ati/amd preset. I have to use radeonpro with afr-friendly profile + alternate frame rendering to get good fps. It also happened before the EE version for me so it's not specific to the newer one. It must be a problem on amd side. There was a time when the normal preset worked just fine but i guess they screwed up in newer drivers. The only thing i have to disable now that i didn't have to before the patch is cinematic depth of field mostly for cutscenes.

Well yes, you always got to be careful with graphics cards because some come with cut down memory bandwidth, though 192bit memory interface is hardly a bad deal for £115. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-evga-gtx-460-fpb-4008mhz-gddr5-gpu-823mhz-shader-clock-1646mhz-336-cores-2x-dual-link-dvi-i-mini

I paid £160 for my old GTX 460 1GB(256bit) not 6 months ago.

I suggest everyone with framerate issues to try and install this unofficial fix to the game's bin folder. That resolved my crippling framerate issue phenomenally well. I still notice some screen tearing in cutscenes, but at least frames and audio don't skip, and the game itself runs smooth as dream.

Mine worked perfectly with Xfire before EE, it could be a new issue introduced between the old drivers and the current ones.

Go into the config.ini file and set ScatterDOF=0. This should fix the cut scene/fight/meditation slowdowns.

ScatterDoF only enables on the Ultra preset, so setting lower won't enable it anyway.

Doesn't make a difference.

the one area where this was really noticeable for me was the transition between chapters 1 and 2, the battle in the fog. I got lower/slower performance than I did with 2.0.

Does your fps drop significantly when looking at a certain direction, or is it just low all the time?
Cause for me it seems to drop randomly when you look at certain direction to like 20-30 fps. If I turn away the fps goes up to 150. Even on lowest settings it goes down to 40 in some places. It seems to be happening mostly when Im looking at a crowd of people (even if I can't see them)

This is all in the first fight scene with king Foltest btw

I've got basically the same rig as you except my GPUs are more powerful (6970)

Im gonna try installing a non-enhanced version and see how that compares

EDIT: okay I tried the non-enhanced.. it 's actually worse. If the fps drop to like 40 it stays there. I have no idea what's going on :/
