Grossly overleveled by mid-game? Or is it just me?

Haven't done almost any of the monster hunts in Velen, only done about half of the side quests ...
Yet I'm level 18 (on deathmarch), have several greyed out quests, the whole map is full of ?s which I haven't explored...

In short, if I do sidequests / monsterhunts / exploring, the whole game is going to become trash for me.
It's as if the game is designed to force me not to play it :(
funny that people are begging for a patch to give them MORE xp... I'd have begged for a patch to give half the XP..

Anyone else found themselves so badly overleveled by this point? It's weird too, I swear, I only did like 3 monster hunt quests in Velen and very few sidequests :(

I'm not sure what mid game is (and don't want to spoil it), but I'm level 16, playing on default, and the game has been a HUGE challenge for me to this point. Quests at my own level are really difficult, and most monsters even near my own level kick my butt. I'm hoping that there is a huge amount of content left, and hope to reach the "soft cap" of level 70 eventually. Obviously, everyone has different gaming strengths - mine has never been fighting/battling, but the challenge level for this game is really up there for me, and I'm someone who generally over levels on purpose to make it through.

I think I'm a bit past the halfway point, and my next main quest is level 22 while I'm level 24. That is with doing a lot of the secondary quests and contracts, although some of the contracts/secondary quests I don't do until they're gray, so I don't get XP for them.

Agree. I'd say I'm halfway too, and most of my side quests are turning grey now, as well as main quests. I have to focus on one or the other it seems. Won't be much fun going back doing side quests half my level after I've finished the main story...

I played on Death March, game was pretty hard for the first 6 levels but by the time I was level 15 I was way overlevelled for the story quests and there was no way for me to catch up, just doing the story quests only I would continuously be overlevelled for the next story quest. It gets really ridiculous once you get to the Isle of Mists part because then the game just starts throwing mad amounts of xp at you. I really enjoyed the earlier parts of the game game, the Velen quests were the high point for me, especially the Baron and the crones. the later parts seem a bit rushed to me. I guess I can't really complain given the size and scope of the game, they still hit it way out of the park.

I did get this feeling as well. After isle of mists I started leveling much faster. Also there was less incentive to do the grayed out quests by this point. I probably did half of them. I'm on second play through now and am trying to do more of the sidequests when I reach the corresponding level.

yeah, end game quests give quite a lot of experience which progresses you up a lot quicker.. which makes me wonder what impact it would have if there was no EXP limitations, but all quests would give similar amount of EXP.. this way end game quests would not jump you up to level 30-35 that quick and endgame fights would be much more challenging.

Presumably it would be rather easy to code in an option to decline a level. So when you level up, you just get asked if you want the level or want to decline it. That would solve this problem.

I've noticed the same (note: I'm playing on second hardest)

I came to conclusion that I have to divide sidequests to multiple playtroughs to see everything and not to became over-leveled.
I still try to make the important ones featuring other main characters as I think those affect world and story (this is my first playtrough and I'm in the
Assemble the anti-wild hunt team after kaer morhen
part.

I think this is fine as I get fresh sidequests and can make other choices and see where they lead in coming playthroughs.

But yea, xp balance is bit off

can't understand those who say they should get more xp. I think it's good that you dont get xp from grey quests as now you can still do those without getting even more over-leveled (is that even a word). Downside is of course that they are way too easy

Maybe flatten them a bit would help. This way amount of experience received later would be much smaller.. sometimes you receive 1000Exp for practically nothing, while some fights in the beginning are insanely hard but give you minimal Exp...

Yeah I'm with you OP. With the way questing and leveling works in TW3 it's easy to be outleveled for the vast majority of the content that the game has to offer pretty quickly. I don't mind doing grey quests, but it does feel less rewarding.

Either TW3 needs a steeper level-requirement curve for the quests (meaning less low-level quests and more high-level quests) or the amount of XP you get should be halved.

Personally I would prefer the former. I love leveling up at a reasonably fast pace, but I also want a challenge. So a steeper level-requirement curve for the quests would be the best solution.
