GTX 970 - Black screen after updating to 1.08

Greetings!

I really hope we can find a solution to my problem, because i'm out of ideas. So first of all, when the 1.08(before i had 1.06) patch came out, i've installed it and before getting to play it, I made some tweaks from the thread "A compendium of tweaks and fixes for the PC version". The graphics driver version was 353.30.

So after playing it for like 10-15 min the screen suddenly goes black, and the game is running fine in the background, because nonetheless I still hear it and after a few seconds the screen comes back, with no errors or what so ever and I can play on. So immediately I began to disable the tweaks I made one by one to determine where the problem is, but AFTER EVERYTHING changed back to normal the problem still persist.

Because of this i've even updated the graphics driver yesterday with the latest one 355.60, but sadly the screen still goes black after 10-15 min and comes back after a few seconds. This is the only game where the problem has appeared, playing GTA V fine with no black screens.

Thanks for the help!:(

Mah, try selecting the Clean Install option when installing the new NVidia drivers. I've had this problem intermittently on my 970s since Day 1 and its definitely related to the NVidia drivers. Doing a driver reinstall and checking the Clean Install option and NOT installing GeForce Experience helped me a lot. Suspect this is part of the reason NVidia recently dropped Witcher 3 from their GeForce Experience supported game list, http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/supported-games.

Thanks alaskawolf for the reply! Well I did a clean install, first with DDU and then with the clean option selected, however I did install Geforce Experience, I only installed it so that it let me know when new drivers are ready. Will try after I uninstalled it, oh and I forgot to tell that I'm on Win7.

With NVidia, clean installs have always been important. Invariably their latest drivers always seem to interfere with previous versions. I got so mad at them over this I quit using NVidia cards for about 10 years. Wasn't at all surprised to come back and see they still had this problem, but at least they decided to make clean installs easier...

As far as GeForce experience, it seems to have caused problems with Witcher 3 for some (including me) but if it works for you that's awesome. For me, since NVidia dropped Witcher 3 from their Supported Games list, I see no benefit to installing it or their 3D Audio drivers, I stick with the latest driver and Physx versions.

Well, I did uninstall the Geforce Experience, but still no luck after that, however I did managed to solve the problem by myself.

The solution: I had to disable the power plan settings when to turn of the display to "never".

It seems that after installing 1.08, the game is no longer detected by windows and thats because I had those black screens, windows was turning the display off, thinking I wasn't doing anything. I also use Dualshock 4 and maybe that's why, haven't tried without. Im glad that I can play again with no worries, so cheers :D
