So stupid question of the day, which would be more economical for a new build? The new 900 series or a current 700 series GPU? Some of the more technical parts of analyzing a GPU goes over my head.
Well by definition newer would be better since it'll be for a new build and that means you get more 'years' out of your GPU when it comes to playing at higher settings, but 'economical'.... generally speaking there isn't a massive difference between GPU series these days. If you get say a GTX770, then it will be almost equivalent of whatever x70 card comes out with the next series in real world performance(970 in this case). So stupid question of the day, which would be more economical for a new build? I bought a GTX 680 Ti last year for 350 bucks and I suppose it will do me good for the next four years to come. 1080p speaking, 1440p is a luxury I can't affordNothing to use it on, current cards are more then enough to play any game in 1080p. People (gamers) take gaming to serious. Extra few pixel wont change your gaming experience. Unless you have a job with no financial commitments or life plans you can spend all your money on 1000-2000$ GPU to play warcraft.
Never heard of a card like that.I bought a GTX 680 Ti last year for 350 bucks
There are 660, 660 Ti, 670, 680 and 690 (double). 680 wouldn't cost $350, so it probably was 660 Ti.Never heard of a card like that.
Yup. That's what I thought as well.There are 660, 660 Ti, 670, 680 and 690 (double). 680 wouldn't cost $350, so it probably was 660 Ti.

So the best computer I can build at the moment is identical to the one I'll be able to build in February, other than price? If that's the case, maybe I won't wait.Nope. They don't come out THIS FAST. Although hmm..maybe AMD's new lineup but not around TW3's release.
As far as I'm aware yes. I don't think AMD's new architecture or GPUs are coming that fast someone else feel free to correct if the case is otherwise. So the best computer I can build at the moment is identical to the one I'll be able to build in February, other than price? Nvidia might release a Ti model of the GTX 980 at some point.Nope. They don't come out THIS FAST. Although hmm..maybe AMD's new lineup but not around TW3's release.
Heh, not quite. Using a notebook at the moment, and it's starting to show disturbing signs.@eliharel : If you already have something around high end Nvidia card from 600 series, then you better wait until they introduce their next iteration with 16nm transistors, since it will be a big step up in efficiency (unless these 900 cards will be using it already). The pattern I noticed - cards power consumption grows with newer versions until some significant change is introduced, then power drops down. Then it starts growing again. The best spot to buy a card if you want lower power consumption option is right when they just introduced that change. Lower power consumption means wider choice of PSUs, less cooling needed, less noise and lower electricity bills![]()
Noted, thanks. My grades are saved for a little longer then.Huh...Apparently AMD's Tonga based GPU is supposed to come out this month too, so you can wait a bit if you're interested in what AMD has to offer.
I was actually thinking about the same as well. The 970 only has a 145W TDP so my AX760 would easily handle couple of them, even with CPU overclocking.Damn, the 970 is going to be without a doubt the go-to card. That value for money is fantastic.
Can't say the same about the 980 though, just doesn't seem to have nearly the performance difference to warrant the $220. I'd much prefer to just shell out another $110 on top of that and get SLI 970's.
