GWENT: Ask a Dev Discussion Thread

"Mill might soon become a thing of the past, wait for the patch"

Either they changed their mind or they are just extremely bad in understanding their own game. Why do you give us false hopes @Burza46?

Hi, i love witcher universe, especcialy GWENT,so i want to write about some problems that really must be solved(not about balance now). So 1-communication panel.I have a friend and ,for example, i want to see what he/she is doing. But i only can see if he/she is *in main menu* or *play GWENT*.But he/she already plays GWENT.Can u create something like *play with a friend*, *play ranked*,*play casual game*,*open barrels*,*in his/her card collection*,*in adventure*.If u will do all of this i'll be very happy and not only me.

next is that chat is really uncomfortable. it is really easier to chat in gog client. i cant see my score, i cant pass the round!!!. if i need to chat with a friend all time how can i do that?! I always must to open the community panel, press the friend's icon , then press one more button , then press the text field, write what i want and close the panel. Then i need to do all this steps again to write more!!!

okay, next problem is exatly communication panel. sometimes it became unvisible. But i place the cursor and see name of the panel!

next is eternal messages from panel(now u can buy starter pack,*!* in the corner of quests that i have already seen(not new)).

then quest's issue- if i cant do the quest or this quest isnt good enough(not enough ore), why i can't replace it?

also, when i try to write , for example , ukrainan word, game doesn't allow me to do that. Why?

so 2- when i won game but my opponent concede i get ranked points but i don't get quest's points. It is not normally.

3- i wish my opponent good luck, but he/she doesn't wish me that.So i win but i don't earn extra ore , he/she lose, but he/she earned. It is not also normally.

4- i changed Hearthstone to GWENT because it is only a little random here. And it is really GOOD!!!But this radom in barrels. i have opened around 40 barrels and i have not got any gold cards from barrels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And only 13 premium cards!!! I lose some random but even random only in barrels i lose all(only 1) random!!!for example, my friend(with whoom i started play GWENT) earn less barrels, than i, but around 20 premium cards(not gold) and 6 gold cards(2 of them are premium!). I Think u have to give at least 1 gold from 15 barrels , 1 premium gold from 50 barrels and 1 premium silver/bronze card from 8 barrels .For example. Please!
5-u have aleady said that u would retranslated card's names/ description(lore description and card's abilities),but also, please , retranslate voice-over.Also lore description wrote with not very good font so i cant read some words. Please solve this problem.
Except balance, it was all problems that i have found. I don't know where must i write this article, but i have chosento write it here. Also, i write such big article for first time and i am not english,so it may be full of mistakes.♥:)
But i hope this article wouldn't be ignored and would be taken into consideration. This game really now the best choice for me. Good company that love their players and fans, amusing Witcher universe.♥♥♥:):):)
i won't write good sides of game , but changes that i mentioned will make it better!

Please, solve at least 2 issues and i will see that game is really changing into better and all words that u have said wasn't a void!♥♥♥:)

Hi and welcome to the forums. Thank you for giving feedback. However, the GWENT: Ask a Dev thread is solely meant for direct questions towards the devs. That's why I've moved your post to the discussions thread. Feel free to make another post in the aforementioned thread with just a question (or two) for CDPR.

My girlfriend recently has been wanting to buy a Nintendo Switch and she asked me if Gwent is coming to that console. I said I didn't know, that I would ask on the forums....so...is Gwent: The Witcher Card Game coming to the Switch? 0:

There are no such plans, at the moment. My guess is that a Nintendo release isn't going to happen.

How come end turn abilities do not work if you pass? It doesn't make sense. It's still the end of my turn when I pass so why wouldn't my cards abilities activate? Curious if you did this for a reason.

Hi and welcome to the forums. I've moved your post to the discussions thread because someone else already asked the same question (without an answer). Let's wait for CDPR to answer him first. My guess is that the premium artwork will be coming in the next patch.

I have a question, this game is amazing. But am i blind or is there only one background to play on? I have been playing PVP and vs the AI, same background. are the devs going to add more backgrounds/map to play on? looks boring sometimes playing on the same background lol

Quick question... so I just found out that a buffed Bork (Villentretenmerth) will not burn itself, even if it is the highest card. Is that supposed to be that way?

Yes. Villentretenmerth was changed a few patches ago.

Well, obviously you plan to have the premium card art available, but when? It's been two months without any premiums being released.

There was no patch in this time span either to add those premium versions. Just give the artists time to create the premium versions. The 100+ cards probably suprised them more than anyone else. Those masterpieces need time. I'd rather wait 2 more months for the missing premium versions you talk about than having exceptionally bad premium cards in the game - because they needed to rush them.

Where is the issue in waiting for the premiums in the first place? Because you draw a premium card in a keg and it doesn't move yet, or because you had a premium choice - 5th card in a keg - and didn't know which one to pick because you didn't know all 3 premiums yet. I don't understand the insistent demanding/asking, the shimmer on the cards clearly shows they are supposed to be premium and you just got the official clarification that every card is supposed to have its premium version[SUP]1[/SUP].

The artist team is the last one to complain about.

First of all thanks for the reply :)
I saw that and I am genuinely glad, although the question goes deeper. What are your plans on the former trio cards, is there a chance to bring them back even without getting new ones of them? I'm not sure about that, but if I recall correctly I didn't see the artist credits in the cards preview screen on the PTR, this was a gesture I always admired and even if that sounds odd I thought it was decent to read the name in ones hand as a credit for a beautiful artwork.

I wasn't talking about RNG cards as I said complex and skillrewarding, although I think that Create is mishandled in/with the standard mode.
The game was complex not complicated which is perferct, therefore there was no reason in my opinion to get rid of that complexity. And there is no doubt that gwent lost its complexity in a tremendous amount.
Gwent had so much potential and created itself so much more space, to suddenly throw all of it away its just sad. I'm talking about dozens of unique abilities and interesting mechanics that have been erased over the last months.
Just to mention two more. I thought Brave and especially Effort were fantastic mechanics. Effort in particular optimal to grant cards that turned out to be too situational and weak in lots of times or on the other hand too strong most times the treatment they'd need to be balanced. For Brave the game is too swingy at the moment, still it was a nice and well implemented idea to test it. I'm not a coniflip crybaby this just comes to my mind right now, Brave could help the player that lost the coinflip, for example grant the first 3 units - of that player - played in the game 3 base strength on deploy for being brave.

"[W]e still need to work on some of the abilities and archetypes to develop them more." Does that mean that some archetypes and abilities were removed because you didn't have a clue at that very moment to align them in what you had in mind for gwents evolution and they probably come back somehow if you found a solution for them?
If that is so, is it possible to have an in depth video/stream of a couple of hours with members of the card designing and balancing team in which they explain such detailed and with examples to better understand how those guys understand the game and to get a clue of their vision - not only considering what will come but also taking care of why severe changes/decisions were made over the course of this now more and more gruffly strenuous journey. The developers streams aren't really explaining in my opinion and not as informative as I'd like them to be as an insight in the games development.

This mind sound somewhat salty, but I am really bothered seing cards being the exact same card with another artwork and having loads of them instead of having different, unique, thematic mechanics/abilities and less cards. I do totally understand that some cards are somehow placeholders and I don't really mind them; Not for the cost of former unique abilities tho, especially if there is no/even less reason to play that card afterwards.

Shieldmaidens were truly unique, at the start they were overstated after the nerf not played that much - totally fine - now there is literally no reason to play them. The reason you play Blue Mountain Commandos is because they are elves and u can get points through movement synergy out of them, Mahakam Volunteers are played because they are dwarves and you want to pull them with an agitator for a 14 point bronze, 4 bodies and 3 card deck thining. Shieldmaidens are 3*3 with nothing on top of that, beyond terrible in this state of the game - even if there would be such thing like a viable swarm skellige.

I could go on and on. You said "[you'd] still strongly believe that the game is very skill heavy". I don't, atleast not in relation to what it used to be. As I said I miss the feeling when playing; I talked about being proud or disappointed/annoyed of onesself for example.
Mistakes did hurt a lot and felt devastating, on the bright side you exactly knew what to work on. Every single time I did a stupid mistake - with raising skill more and more mistakes became stupid - I was indignant about my stupidity/thoughtlessness/inattentiveness, because such mistakes did cost me a lot of games. And I cared about winning, because it truly felt being solely a matter of skill if one won or lost game. The reaction to that was to work even harder and avoid those mistakes instinctively. On the other hand big/smart plays, good reads, etc were satisfying and incentivized to keep improving. That's gone now. I am not encouraged to play anymore, not to speak of improving.
I played a couple of excellent players - few of them still at the top of the leaders - back in the days and I either felt being the worse player in that game pretty apparent or I felt playing beyond my A game if I could keep up with such players and even win against them (in BO 3/5 from time to time) an estonishing and good felling - both of them. Those games made me learn a lot either way and were thrilling reliably.
I can't imagine this anymore in this state of the game and I can't since probably half a year.

tl;dr: Just a salty veteran player crying about the game losing complexity and therefore fun and its identity. Pestered by seeing a game he loved driving the cart against the wall with full speed, at least on a road that that player does not want to take.
I read a pretty good comparison in the forums once, it was something like:
"Gwent has become the close friend that started doing drugs."

I doubt that this is appropriate for the gwent ask a dev thread, if it is please move it right there, thanks a lot :) .

TV_JayArr

Great post. I've been playing gwent since November 2016 and I think the game wasted so much of its gigantic potential......not sure if it's worth continue playing....

Could not agree with you more Tv, this game has lost identity, skill requirement, fun, and unique vibe... so many wrong turns with very little right.. but i appreciate cd projekt red, but even my girlfriend tells me everyday “i told you so every game producer forgets the customers for the cash” i try defend cdpr but next day there will be another one sided move for there profit from gwent, and its irritating my girlfriend has practically quit the game at this point because sick of only being able to climb with dwarves we are both above 4000 im in top 500 and only because i ditched my skill intensive fun decks to main braindead scoia dorfs to get vernon roche
:hmm:

... i actually regret the money and support ive given for how its been thrown back at us.. and constant lag switchers on pc using there tech as advantage over ps4 getting wins for exploiting disconnection issues its dissappointing i report and record footage “sorry its your internet” which i play Alot we have perfect internet, its kind of obvious when your enemy says “bet this will come as a surprise” lag switches and wins... -.-

on another note my faith can be restored, fix the factions balance the factions make every card viable like it use to be, dont cash grab from buffing nilfgaard and socia for a season while nerfing the previous broken faction, there should just be balance. Not carbon copy viper, reveal, dorfs, nova bears, rinse and repeat for an entire month. Return seasons to two months i study full time the grind was to intensive for 1 month time frame or buff the ranking points per win, i am not often a pay to player but i want to be able to spend money on kegs without regret purely because the card artist are heroes there artistic skill astonishes me i love the details being added with each set of new card art it deserves reward! Give them a pay rise, because theyre doing damn better then whoever is coming up with the numbers for cards,
because cdprs current agenda just reminds me of this fella, :hmm3:

bring back skellige discard, reaver hunters, queens guard, doom tag iris, skellige alternative builds, scoia ambush build, champion of champions.. and the amount of bugs i encounter everyday is shocking! Sorry for my rant, just an entire month of frustration from a game i once loved really takes its toll and i think alot of the community can relate.:grrr:

Greetings, devs! I'm a Gwent newcomer, and I really really want to obtain avatars that I've missed from previous seasons rewards. Will be there some way to get them after Gwent release? I'm even ready to pay for it!
