GWENT: Ask a Dev Discussion Thread

Hi and welcome to the forums. I've moved your post to the discussion thread because your question is already answered in the official FAQ:

[h=3]Do you plan on wiping accounts in the future?[/h] No further account progress wipes are planned, but — since GWENT is still in the beta stage of development — however unlikely, wipes are technically still possible. If we need to reset your beta progress, we will inform you about that in advance. Should this happen, we will return to you any purchases (e.g. Card Kegs, Meteorite Powder, the Starter Pack) made using real-world currency after the reset.

I am totally new to this thing, and I must say this game is pure hell for new players. UI is unfinished, half of the stuff is not explained anywhere. no tooltips in deck building for faction names for example, those banners mean nothing for me since I never played any witcher games.

what is an ally? some cards say they buff allies, but I don't see ally tag on any cards. is that all units except spies or is it a faction, or a race or a clan? wtf is ally? no tooltip again

What is "end of a row" ?

What are deck building rules. Took me a bit of time to figure out that "incomple deck" means I simply didn't put enough cards into it

Why menu has to be so click-intensive, so much unnecessary clicking and hiding stuff behind sliding menu after menu after menu after load screen after another click and god save me if I accidentaly click back or something else - more load screens...

As for play experience, the game said in some tooltip that it would try to match me against opponents with the same card strength (or something like that), but my first games were against perfectly fine-tuned decks (elf buffs, who ended playing 4 20+ strength units, those purple discard vikings and who've been shuffling through his deck like crazy summoning tons of units and shooting at mine, and third guy with spies again tons of buffs) How is that a fair matching? "bluff your way to victory" ?? those guys didn;t even need their full hands to win over me. how am I supposed to play against that with starter deck + couple of randoms? is this devs way to encourage donations? not cool guys. Horrible experience for a new player.

Hi and welcome to the forums. You've made some valid points in your post and most of them are well known issues. However, you have to remember the game is still in beta and the devs are continuously working to improve player experience. I would imagine there is going to be an extended tutorial that explains all the concepts of the game. At the moment, it would cost CDPR too much time to keep that updated. Instead, they are focusing their attention elsewhere. In the end, it's all about trial and error, a learning process. After a few days of playing the game, you should get the handle on how most of the things work. If you still have questions, you can ask them here.

PS. I've moved your post to the discussions thread. If you want to give feedback directly to CDPR, you can use the contact form instead.

I submitted a ticket to support, so is there a way to keep track of it? and if there's going to be any reply?
(hope this post is dev-worthy enough?)

The ask a dev thread is meant for questions regarding the game that only the devs can answer, like "Do you plan on adding a row preferred system where units are boosted when played on a certain row?" It's not meant for feedback, tech support or questions not about the game.

Once CDPR replies to a ticket, you will be notified. They usually answer within 48 hours, but during busier periods, it can take up to a week.

Why did you insist on nerfing tremors when everyone insisted the actual problem be nerfed? Which was obviously ithline. Because everyone has told you. Numerous times. And yet you don't change her. You nerf every bronze spell.

So this is the place to post questions? Kinda weird name for it.

Ok then, where's the place for new people? I also had questions in my first post that was moved here, and that were never answered.

A deck must have a minimum of 25 cards, and up to 40 cards. "Colour" limits are 4 Gold, 6 Silver, no duplicates. Bronze cards you can have up to three copies of.
Indicators at the top left of the deck builder screen show three numbers indicating current numbers of Golds, Silvers and Bronzes in your deck.

As for the matchmaking, there is a hidden "MMR" system for casual games. I don't think anyone except CDPR themselves know exactly how it works, but it's there. Yes, you will sometimes be playing against fully optimized "meta decks", which can definitely be discouraging, but you'll also run into players who are new and don't have top-tier decks.

You will get an e-mail reply. Depending on what e-mail service you use the reply might end up in the junk folder, so be sure to check that, too.

Dear Gwent Developers.

1. Nithral has been repeatly changed since Frost was changed in weather patch many months ago, its current version is - i think - only worsen this card and don't do it justice. Why have you decided on its current vartion and what were the alternative choices you had when you decided to change this card in recent months. Now after 3-4 weeks since the latest hotfix, do you feel this card gain traction or perhaps it need to return to the drawing board?
2. Ilmerith design has not changed midst most latest patches and it remain one of the weakest FACTION golds in the game. Do you have plans to change it in the nearby future? If so, any ideas you toying with you can share with us?
3. Wild Hunt Warrior - With the buffing of bronzes that capable of reaching 15-16 points at some cases, Wild Hunt Warrior with its conditioning feels left behind. What your thoughts on that?
4. In general, i feel the Wild Hunt was somewhat neglected in recent patches, do you guys have plans to visit this archtype in the nearby future or you are happy where it is now?

I think these are great questions that I would like to second. Since I started playing at the beginning of OB, WH has been my favorite faction. It can be extremely difficult to keep up with the tempo plays of most of the current factions without playing golds and silvers to counter their huge bronze point plays. Especially with all the 1-point create cards that nullify the Riders boosting frost.

During the Dagon Meta (July/August 2016) rows and sequencing were super important. You could lose the coinflip, go to a short round 3 on even cards and just win because you played Lacerate, Water Hag or Fire Elemental in a non-intuitive but good order! That was so rewarding.

Is Row Identity (less Agility Cards and new Mechanics based on rows) something that might come to the game after the release of the core set?

Hi, don't know if this should happen or not? I played Iris von Everec, then destroyed her with Peter Saar Gwynleve. This didn't trigger her deathwish ability. Is that because he weakened her to destroy her or something else?

Correct. When a unit's strength is weakened to zero, it is banished, rather than destroyed, thus its deathwish ability does not trigger. As far as I know, this is still intentional.

This thread is reserved for discussion of questions and answers posted in Gwent: Ask a Dev.

Please, keep discussions polite, and respectful. Thank you. Carry on.

I have a question about Arena

On the bottom right of the menu/scroll screen it seems i am unlocking shards but i never receive them. I have to keep paying with ore. This is very annoying.
Is it a bug? If yes could you please give me the 50 or so shards that i have earned?

I have not seen a single shard since the mode came out...

Hmm. I'm actually not sure about this. I'll look into it.

Thanks Riven-Twain :)

I have been wondering in general...
How do you get more shards?

Hello,

I hope that I got the right topic. Question for devs. Are you working on a Mac version of the game?
Current ports with Wine are not working with the latest patches and updates on both GoG and Gwent.

Best.
