GWENT: Ask a Dev Discussion Thread

I'm new to the game and have just recently hit rank 10. That being said, the Season End reward for rank 10 is a new avatar and I'm scared that if I progress any further, I'll lose the reward. Is this true?

No; you'll get the rank 10 reward even if you hit rank 21 before season end. Don't worry. :)

I hope this can be answered because well i am stunned. This happened. My opponent played with nilfgaard and in the last round he used cahis to resurrect hes/her leader jan calveit back. So far that is normal play but what stunned me is jan calveit had a base (so not boosted) value of 17. So my question is how can you with nilfgaard increase the leaders base value of 7 to 17? I am not a sore loser but I kinda have a feeling this was done by cheating because i have never seen a leader base value increased befor and i use cahir a lot myself to i know he does resurrect a leader but not change hes base value

Calveit is 5 strength, not 7. Anyhow, there are plenty of strengthening cards in the game and with all the (cross-faction) RNG cards going on, it's difficult to say what exactly happened. One thing the opponent probably used was Mandrake to increase the strength of a unit by 6. Furthermore, Peter Gwynleve can strengthen a unit by 3.

... (and damn it devs, consider printing them out and selling it like a card game because i want to empty my wallet out for physicals of the update good stuff.) ...

Playing Gwent as a card game IRL with current rules (if I understood this part of your post right) would be like to do accounting for a company that didn't bother to keep their financial records for the whole century. At best. Rolling X-sided die each round to see which unit will ged damaged by Reinforced Trebuchet? Flipping a coin each round to see where Odrin moves? Looking at your card deck to find units (without looking at the other cards in your deck) because you have used Stefan Skellen or Emissary? Not to mention hordes of +1 or -1 tokens because lots of cards have such effects? Unless properly streamlined and simplified, then no. Just no. By all that is holy.

Before the midwinter-update there were many viable SK decks like veterans, cursed, discard or greatswords. Why did you decide to rip this apart by nerfing several cards like priestess of freya, veterans or sigrdrifa, dumbing down cards like Clan (Brokvar) Hunter (one the of the most unique abilites in the game and regularly used in greatswords decks) and removing synergies (self wounding: crach, marauder, (+warcrier))?

Axemen seems to be the only viable option in higher ranks now.

While I agree that Skellige was dealt a blow in the Midwinter patch, I do think they have other viable options available. Besides, I actually think Axemen is one of the weaker archetypes that can be easily shut down with a bit of removal.

The new Meta report shows that Harald leads SK in popularity and winrate above 4250 MMR. Don't know what the others are playing, because I haven't seen anything else. Rain or storm ist enough to get them out of thunder range.

The bear deck we have seen at the beginning of this patch isn't good enough to compete with dwarves and nekker consume. Furthermore I think it's incredibly dull.

Bears are boring, indeed. However, a cursed deck is still decent and not overly reliant on Bears. As for Harald's popularity. Maybe it's a counter measure for all those dwarf decks. That would explain it, because dwarfs do not have many ways to deal with Axemen.

why is Cyprian Wiley such an nonviable card? He was a badass in the witcher. and has a badass premium card appearance. but why Does he have to be so weak? I've tried so many times to use him. He only becomes useful against nekkers on the first turn. that is about it...

Generally I think the changes to SK aren't a good choice gameplay wise, because you're so limited in what you can play. The old greatsword deck becomes so unreliable, because you have to draw greatswords, light longships and the res-cards for both units. Oh, you do have destroyed my longship?.....Too bad that I only have a priestess of freya in my hand.

You could argue that priestess of freya were an auto-inlcude in every SK deck, which is a bad thing, but I actually prefer this situation over the new one, because I think it enabled more possibilites in terms of deck variety.

Yeah, I agree CDPR went too far with SK. I can understand their reasoning, but it just panned out the wrong way. The core tools of SK have been scattered so much, you can no longer make a viable deck out of it, bar a few exceptions, which all kinda are a variation of the same thing.

Will you guys ever make Crach + Morkvarg playable again?

Crach can also pull Djenge Frett, which is a decent target. As for Morkvarg, he can be pulled via Hym and/or Skjall. When I use my Cursed deck, I usually can pull Morkvarg, if I want to.

hey guys. can u tell us when slaven infantry will be fixed? craftet it and other cards with synergize for 4 k scraps and now i cant use them anymore.

Are avatars ever going to be more accessible? I feel like it's a shame that only so few people can get avatars like the rank 20 & top 1000 ones. It would add so much more diversity if avatars were more accessible. Also I really don't want to miss out on my favorite characters once/if they ever get released as avatars. (Guessed it, it's Cahir)

I don't know if this is the right thread or not but I am going to post it here. I was just curious if CDPR has considered the relevance of a series of cards to work together as one power card? For instance 4 card set that if played together will give you an "X" power boost IF all 4 cards are played on the table, but each card gives a certain number of points if played solo.

There are so many single cards with massive point boost that I thought it would be fun to have a series of cards that could provide a swing in points.

What do you think and thanks for a great game.

I've moved your post over to the discussion thread because CDPR has already tried to make such cards, but changed all of them. The old Wild Hunt Riders worked exactly like that. Once you've gotten all three on the board, they would boost themselves each turn. The only thing left are the Reaver Hunters which boost themselves (and every every copy) whenever they are played on the board. However, they used to be stronger because they had an additional effect that reduced the strongest unit's power by half when at least three Hunters were on the board.
