Gwent cards given on 1st win vs merchants - confused

Thought every npc that has play gwent dialog would award card on 1st win vs them, until there are no more cards to win (which is what one of the loading screen tips also say)

But i just won vs a new merchant, so for sure 1st time win, and he awarded me just coin and craft parts.

-So thought cool, I've won all the cards there are to win this way and only special unique cards from gwent quests letf.

-But shortly afterwards, playhed another new merchant and he awarded me a card.

-And finally, just played another new merchant and he awarded me only coins on the 1st win - no card, and not even a craft part.

question - how is the gwent card awards supposed to work? I thought was just win card in each new npc first win, coins and craft parts only on subsequent replay same npc, and would keep getting cards until all cards won.

You are correct in your assumption. There's a pool of cards for those first wins and you get a random card out of that pool until you've collected them all. You can check whether you have all the random cards by looking up a list of them (like this one) and comparing it to your collection. The site I linked is nice in the sense that you can filter by location.

Must be some npc specific bug with the one i played and didnt give ne a card but still got new card from other merchant later on.

will check that list - hopefully ive gotten all in the pool since looks like im no longer getting cards.

If there is no card-icon next to the dialogue-option to play Gwent, you will not get a card for winning.

The suspected bugged merchant that gave me nothing even though got card from next merchant had a card symbol, in yellow - which I took to mean has card and will give card.

And now, new merchants I've never played before has card symbol but in white - which seems to indicate has card but won't give you one because already got all the random pool cards available.

The yellow ones are part of Gwent-related quests, like winning a card from each of your friends... the white ones get you a random card from a pool... at least that's how I understood it.
