Eskel Pathfinder is a witcher, so the primary tag he definitely can not kill is other witchers. The rest depends on the deck he's in: the fewer and more uncommon primary tags the deck has, the more useful he is.
In the comparison with heatwave - they're both 10p, and Eskel has a 4pt body but he cant remove artefacts which is the main allure of heatwave.

Exactly, like one "genius" remove wasn't enough. Now Eskel is just another no-GG trigger for me.
Yes, of course he can't target witchers - my bad. I just never used this card in its new form and was caught in the moment. But Eskel should be one of the truest witchers. Him killing anything but monsters makes as much sense as Dandelion: Vanity actually destroying a monster.
And yes, in terms of balance it may be an OK card for people who use Heatwave or Oneiromancy - but it has nothing to do with the Witcher world character. So I think Gwent should finally lose this subtitle and become a truly abstract card game, where cards only serve mechanics purposes with no ties to any lore.

Geralt killed elves in self-defense is in the book "The Last Wish." In this story, Geralt is hired to kill a monster that is terrorizing a village. The monster turns out to be a group of elves, and Geralt is forced to kill them in order to protect the villagers.
There were numerous encounters of him killing humans and mages. So, all good with the lore

There is not much said in the books about Eskel, Vesemir or Lambert's life. Yet, since they are all witchers that live by the same code, I would imagine that either of them had a fair share of killing "non-monsters". Lambert is a cynical badass, he could have done even more than Geralt on this front, but that's just a speculation.
Let's not forget that witchers are feared and hated in some parts of the land, which may have resulted in bloody confrontations.
