I personally like that there are 3 actual rows. I think the first thing to be removed could be the opponents hand as that is only interacted with by Reveal and that could still work similar to the graveyard.

Yes, sounds like a better idea than removing the siege row. That's basically the worst idea to solve the problem I can think of. Maybe there is even a way to show both hands at the side of the board instead of below/above. I'm not sure if it's possible to design a good looking and well working board that way, but it would be the first option I'd look into.

I can trade 6 months for a rework of the game's whole core. If it is as big as it sounds, even a year would be justified. I think it will be alright really :)

*Edit* Though PLEASE don't get rid of the third row! :(

Evolving means adopting...
It takes some serious guts from your team to do such a thing, I like the fact that you are recognising a fault and not trying to fix it, but to reinvent it... Remember your roots, and we will always be here for you with our support, we have waited years more for prommising games, your true supporters will not falter!

Sounds like some good ideas and game design takes time. 6 months is actually not long at all for such a complete overhaul. I too was of the opinion that CDPR was painting themselves into a corner, now they said "screw it", walked over the wet floor and started over. Good decision imo and I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with, good luck CDPR!

Wow, this is pretty awesome. Basically everything that's been irritating me about the game is at least being addressed. Really hoping they manage to make the look and feel of the game more Witcher-like.

6 months is a long time to wait, but it's better than releasing a string of half-baked fixes that aren't thoroughly vetted and play tested.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times? I'm not even sure if there's an answer that's supposed to fit here. But hey, this is CDPR, they've bought enough of my goodwill with GOG.com and The Witcher trilogy (and GWENT, except the last 6 months) for me to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The open letter makes it sound like the issues raised by the player-base at large (which is an important distinction as too many games die by catering to a vocal minority) are being looked into and hopefully being addressed in the correct way. Except for the row situation that is...bringing back preferred rows is a big step FORWARD. Removing the siege row would be a big step BACKWARD (like, seriously, don't do that). Bringing back a "darker tone" that is more in keeping with The Witcher lore is a good thing as well.

The time frame doesn't bother me. I think enough people are invested in GWENT to secure a long term future for it even with a 6 month wait. Soon as patches drop many lapsed players, myself included, will always flock back. Will they stay though? Maybe, as long as things change for the better.

And by change, we mean bring the game back in line with the original vision. Tactical plays. Rows and effects that matter. Readable decks (i.e. no cheap "Create" crap that has the potential to provide "catch all" answers in every situation). Risk / reward plays that play out over multiple turns. A board state that doesn't have to end in 80+ points to win the first round. The ability to "play around" certain cards instead of just having them nuked or scorched. No more endless "tutoring" cards introduced into the game.

So overall, in response to the open letter my faith is shaky, but it's there. Here's hoping it all works out and we can enjoy the game again soon!

P.S. That being said I won't be playing a lot of GWENT, if any, until at least May as I only play Ranked and I absolutely abhor "create" in any form. Getting top decked I can deal with, because at least I know the possible cards the guy can play, but getting multiple high-rolled in one game....nah...if I wanted to play a complete game of chance I'd call by the casino and play Roulette. I cannot stress this point enough. Getting beaten by a guy is nothing when you know 100% what cards he has and have just failed to play around it or been manipulated into giving over an advantage. Getting beaten by a high-roll is complete bollocks.

P.P.S. This point from the open letter FOCUSING ON PLAYER SKILL AND AGENCY is by far the most important point.

P.P.P.S. Don't remove the siege row. Yeah, had to say this twice just to be sure.

I've been playing Gwent since the end of 2016. I am still playing it daily, and it's still my favorite CCG.

The thought of getting only 2 balance patches in 6 months is really painful, but I like almost everything mentioning in the letter. Just keep the 3rd row, please.

Other than that, half a year for a complete overhaul doesn't seem like a long time. Keep in mind that other CCGs on the market usually release one expansion during the same period of time, so reworking the whole game in 6 months sounds fair.

Keep up the good work, CDPR!

P.S. A good thing is I will finally have time to play Blood and Wine.

I'm really impressed that CDPR admit they were wrong. If everything goes according to plan we will see great year for gwent. I guess artifact is coming so this is last chance to return dissapointed players.

Seems good but I hate waiting.. oh well nothing in life is perfect.. Speaking about waiting any news on the premium weekend maybe?

Well, I see two major problems here:

1. Removing of siege row is very bad idea.
2. Homecoming will arrive at september/october. This is the time when big companies will start releasing AAA-games like CoD or Battlefield. After being on ice for six months, Gwent Homecoming might pass unnoticed by many players. This is like VtM Bloodlines released near HL2 or Titanfall 2 released near new CoD and Battlefield.

I'm here to show my support for the content of this roadmap as well. I believe and hope it'll be worth the wait, sometimes you need to step backwards to leap forwards. Bringing back rows is good. I also got fed up with all the create and endless tutor cards from midwinter update. I won't stay for full 6 months but I'll be back after that :)

It's 8 rows:
hand
3rd row
2nd row
1st row
----
1st row
2nd row
3rd row
hand

:)

wonder how reveal will work if you remove the hand :p It's a whole archetype, and one which involves half of Nilfgaard. So no matter which row you choose to remove, it will be a bold move. I just hope it works out :) Good luck

Although I have enjoyed playing Gwent, threw all of its variations and changes over a year and a half..

This road map is totally acceptable in my books.

I'm not going anywhere and am excited what the next 6 months brings

Sounds like a bold plan.But if that's the plan.Then that's the plan.

Carry On CDPR

So what I get from the email is that there's going to be a wipe(?) "Don’t worry about your progress, once Homecoming is complete, for a limited time, you will have the ability to mill all of your cards for their full value." And they're going to change the game, go for a Public release and 'hope' everything works out.. Fuck me. Good luck. Wish them the best like, I do but they've a tall task at hand.

Those who are saying 6 month is long wait.. do you even remember when public beta starts ? In today's fast moving world 6 month is nothing. Good things comes in hard way. Appreciate the hard work.

And as it's homecoming please don't remove siege row.
