Gwent: Old Pals quest, Thaler

So is there no way to get the Geralt card if I didn't follow up on

the whole assassination quest?

I am trying to play Thaler in Gwent and the Old Pals quest says to go to his house, but I can't knock on the door. And from what I've googled so far it looks like I am unable to actually get play him in Gwent at this point.

Is there no other way to get the Geralt card? On the file I'm on I've already beaten the game so I can't really go back and do it. I may just have to wait until the NG+ DLC comes out and hope they reset the card people so we can play against them again.

I actually just made a thread about this and didn't notice yours. Funny this is though, I'm standing in front of him right now at the Seven Cats in, and it's not giving me the option to play him in cards.(I beat the main story and did the assassination) So, I don't know what the deal is with this. Maybe its bugged. I'm starting to build my Gwent deck as well so I can hit the tournament quest with an arsenal.
