Doubtful. Real time ray-tracing requires very powerful machines ATM which are out of reach to 99.9999% of gamers. So it wouldn't make sense to devote developer time and money to it.

Pretty much what I intend to upgrade my PC to. I don't think it will need this kind of beast to play it in 1080p on max setting, due to it's aim for the current gen, but it's a prospective upgrade.

lets just say all gamers because as of now, there isn't any engine out in use right now that supports it.

the fact that that star wars demo was on a 60k machine is just lol though.

ray tracing is such a minimal effect imo. world building is far more important. having cool stuff happen constrantly on screen, but that is more ram and cpu bound i think.

Depends on your budget but for now I'd wait until we get more info about the game and about new hardware unless you want a PC now.

@Zpootnik

i guess you re quite good with that.... but the GPU is the thing you might
need to change if you want to MAX it out

I run a DDR3 platform myself and in 2020 i still will (i suppose)
i have a 980 though and that is also the thing i consider changing

compatibility and "ability to run it WELL" are two very different things.

the GTX 8800 had "compatibility" for a lot of DX 10 features it couldnt run. likewise when DX 11 launched, a lot of the GTX 4xx and 5xx cards couldnt even function when tesselation was heavily utilized.

Wow, now, when new RTX GPUs were announced I think that Cyberpunk needs to have Ray Tracing. It deserves it. The reflections from cars, guns, streets, ads... It has to have the Ray Tracing. If it won't have the RT, then I'm not sure if I would buy this game.

You might just end up missing out on a really great game, then.

I think I'll hold off until we have holodecks. I mean, sitting there with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse just totally breaks immersion, and CP2077 deserves better!

Seriously though, the RT cards I saw actual pricing info on were workstation cards that started at $2,300 and ranges up to $10k, and not one single source I've seen expects the RTX2080 to retail for under a grand (probably closer to $1500 or so).

Since I don't do FPS games I've found my GTX 970 runs every game I have quite well at max settings.
And again I'm sure it doesn't hurt that the OS and drivers are on an SSD.

That's really mature approach... Why on earth are you waiting for the game if you're not interested in anything but some new, fringe tech, no one would even notice...?
