Hardware Thread - General.

This is most likely why I've been so confused about what you've been saying. I saw the first trailer (I watched E3), and I was completely baffled. The entire time I thought, "this literally looks achievable, certainly not better than GTA."

If the first trailer is about (maybe a little worse in the end) what we can expect from the game, I'm 100% happy and not going to complain. No, it doesn't look as good as the YT 4K stuff, but it makes me feel better that it might actually be a current-gen title.

It's quite alright. I know it seems like I'm trying to start a witch hunt for a potential downgrade but what I am really trying to establish here, personally at least, is that CDPR should be more open this time. I hope they don't lie to our face like they did last time and then apologize for doing so. That whole thing was so embarrassing for CDPR. None of it would have happened if they openly admitted that they would have to cut back on some things to make the game better for everyone. Sure, it would have disappointed their mainly PC gaming audience until that point, but the expectations would've been rightly adjusted and nobody would've felt betrayed when they installed the game on launch only to find that it doesn't even come close to resembling what they ADVERTISED. And people would've known that if CDPR didn't keep lying about how there was no downgrade and then go silent about it until weeks after launch. That was shameful.

I'm glad they're keeping the CP2077 demo behind closed doors for now so that they can show us what the game really looks and plays like whenever it's ready. That "game engine footage" is suspect, though, as you see from the two different versions, and I am not going to lie about that, no matter how much I love CDPR.

Yeah, that's all fine. Again, my only issue is that you seemed to be saying the trailer wasn't achievable (there's definitely some weird inconsistencies between the two, but on the whole, I think the E3 one looks worse), which I just disagreed with.

They clearly touched up the trailer for the YouTube release, though. My guess is that they sent the trailer to Xbox months in advance, but decided it could use some improvements (or tweaks) prior to posting it on YouTube. I wouldn't necessarily say that's dishonest, but I can see why you'd think so and it's not wrong to want more accountability from CDPR.

I'm personally not that worried about a downgrade controversy. I think one of the reasons it happened with TW3 is that they may have honestly thought the game could look that good - remember, it was delayed by about 11 months.

A lot can change in that time. Maybe they realized "Oh, sh*t, this is going to be way more complex than we thought..." and realized their engine simply couldn't handle everything they wanted it to handle and a downgrade had to occur. This is further supported because Blood and Wine looked fantastic, much better than the base game (arguably), so they may have been able to re-implement some trailer features they liked after they got used to developing open world games.

I think CDPR has learned this time around, because I actually think this trailer looks worse than TW3's early E3 gameplay demos did. I think they're waiting until it's closer to a finished product before showing it off, to avoid a downgrade.

Hi guys I hope you can help me. My PC is getting a bit old and although I think it will still be able to run Cyerpunk okay, I was wondering if there's anything I could upgrade that you think might help it along a little bit. I've put a photo of my specs below in the spoiler cut.

Thanks in advance :D
The problem might be the lack of a PC monitor tho.

With each next gen gaming system that comes out in the future the difference from what you see in game trailers, and cutscenes, and actual gameplay will be little to no difference in gameplay. Graphics will be become a high standard across all consoles the difference will be in AI of the NPC, and the immersion of the player in the environments of the game.

I mean this has a big problem in as much as it was a video not the game running on any given hardware. it is not to be thought of as representative of how the game will look or play out. it's not meant too.

The system I have is about as good as it's going to get for the foreseeable future. 16GB of RAM, GTX 1080 Ti, I7 8700K. Nvidia isn't going to release new GPUs for a while, and the ones they do release sound more like refreshes than big architectural changes.

No upgrade is in sight for me. Just put this system together earlier this year in preparation for 2077 and other big games coming out soon.

They are all getting downgraded, especially TLOU Part 2, it was 100% scripted. Bookmark this reply and come back to read it when the downgraded TLOU Part 2 comes out, and it will. Naughty Dog know they can't deliver those visuals, they've known that for weeks or even months, but they showed it off during E3 anyway, didn't they? Why? TLOU Part 2 will be epic, it's Naughty Dog after all, but the trickery remains as usual.

1. God of War actually got an upgrade. It didn't look that good at the reveal and it looks far better now. God of War as an example of how much the PS4 can handle is utterly moot, that game never shows more detail than how far you can throw a stone (10-20 feet). Its incredibly tight (linear) camera angles only show you huge vistas during cutscenes. Otherwise, most of those are very blurry and foggy just like you said.

2. The textures may be good but then you again you only have 2 incredibly detailed characters on screen at any given time during the gameplay. Draugrs and other enemies are duplicated textures/meshes. Exclude the cutscenes with NPCs, which would make it 3 or 4 characters max (throughout the whole game). So is that some kind of never before seen achievement? LMAO, no. It's a far cry from the CP2077 level of the densely populated environment shown off in the trailer. GoW is an amazing game but let's not give it credit where it isn't due.

3. TLOU's camera angles are linear as hell. The game mostly takes place in linear closed off levels, where every other turn is a leaky basement parking, a conveniently destroyed building, or some swampy city block with closed off intersections. Can you go wherever you please in that game? No? Exactly. Moot comparison to games like CP2077.

As for Death Stranding, have you seen any populated environment in that game? An in-depth look at cities or anything to indicate that DS is set in a highly demanding environment? What it has so far shown so far is 2 or 3 characters and a baby in open wastelands and mountain area with water, sand, dead fish. Nothing from anything Kojima has shown so far about Death Stranding tells me it's a hardware resource intensive game.

4. HZD was downgraded (a lot) to make it playable. What you saw at E3 2016 isn't what you got. The game may be great, and I heard it is, but, the trickery remains. The beautiful lighting is completely gone. Leaving behind lighting that makes skin look like it was factory manufactured, as well as that beautiful, magically all-engulfing, dense fog. See for yourself:

Also, most people who have actually played the demo at E3 are mostly in agreement that this game, in its current form, and as was shown off in the trailer, is impossible to pull off on current gen. Which might mean that it will be downgraded on PC just like TW3 was. Or maybe CDPR will optimize the game for consoles and PC differently allowing the PCs to turn it all the way up to what the trailer showed. In all honesty, I just want "GAME ENGINE FOOTAGE" to hold some truth to it this time around. Otherwise, there is no point in showing that off as some sort of technical achievement for REDengine 4. Yeah, yeah, great! Your engine can achieve that every year at E3, but why is that same visual fidelity you proudly used to drop millions of jaws now missing in the final product you sold me?

Everything you said is completely moot with one word "PC"...
Consoles might not be able to have that level of detail, but a PC can today. ESPECIALLY since the demo was 30 Fps.
They are showing off the best, which is PC. You're a pessimist and see flaws in everything.
Then you have to factor in First Person perspective should help as well. The field of view and the area to actually "render" is smaller than 3rd Person. So it is not rendering as much, since the FOV is smaller. Dynamic resolution can help as well.

When I see game play and then as it get closer I will be able to make a judgment call. Besides CDPR would be making a big mistake showing off something that won't happen. They did with the first few trailers of Witcher 3. They know the backlash and said their excuse was that when they made those trailers they didn't have the full scope of what PS4 and Xbox could really handle.

So even if some downgrade could happen, it shouldn't be as much. From what I saw in the trailer, it looks like a game you could have on PC right now.
Just look at Crysis 3. This game is taking place in a city where the draw distance is no further than the next block over. Only some areas will it be longer and LOD takes care of that. There is no grass to render just buildings and NPCs. That isn't as taxing as you think. Much easier to render a large wall with less polygons compared to self-shadowing blades of grass in an open world vista.
The characters/NPCs look great, but to be honest, not more detailed that some games already existing out there.

The question will more be will, if there is a down grade only the consoles suffer from this or will they make the mistake of punishing PC players in some kind of "communist" everyone gets to play according to lowest common denominator which would be PS4 as it stands today.

It will likely be 1400p checkerboard 4k for PS4 Pro, 1800p for XoneX.
PC is flexible. 1080Ti or even of course the new Nvidia cards that might be out soon can do it even better. So PC can scale from low to very high. Then there is options to play 30fps to well any top number at lowest settings and choice of resolutions.

Could be the demo was running on 1080Ti PC 30 locked FPS. Sound very doable IMO.

Crysis 3 4K max settings. Knowing that Crysis 3 came out in 2013 FIVE YEARS ago and the same year CP2077 announcement trailer came out. Just shows that what we saw in CP2077 E3 2018 trailer seems like a PC can handle it.

Yeah, exactly, I don't intend to upgrade anytime soon. But I also aim for 120+ FPS (GSYNC 144Hz monitor), so if that starts to dip down to 60 again, that's when I'll upgrade. Which, as you said, hopefully won't be for a few years.

120+ fps? dont expect this kind of performance out of cyberpunk even with a 1080TI.I'm not sure you could get that with two of them , especially in 1440p :p

I'll definitely need more CPU power when the game is released, but at least my Nvidia card should be fine (1070).

I should add, I play at 1080p and not at Ultra settings. I'm perfectly happy with medium-high at 1080p to make 120 FPS possible. :)

Hmmm downloading might be a bit of an issue, I have to hold my PC in my arms and jump on a trampoline with a 4g dongle plugged into it to get any downloads. How long will it take? My arms and legs get tired after about 1 hour of jumping.
Oh, well no problem. Just sit out in the rain and mumble something about tears in the rain and you will increase the speed with about 0.4%.

Dont worry, downgrade is coming, why do you think they are not showing the Demo? so it cant be a material to compare later about the downgrade it faced in order to be able to run in consoles, like it happened with Witcher 3.

These are the specs the demo ran on:

CPU: Intel i7-8700k @3.70 GHz
MB: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-I Gaming
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V, 2x16GB, 3000MHz, CL15
GPU: Geforce GTX 1080 Ti
SSD: Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2 PCIe
PSU: Corsair SF600 600W

I'm pretty much covered in everything except the RAM and the SSD.

How about taking a look at the specs and working backwards from there? I didn't dig terribly deeply, but it would seem that the PS4 has a GPU comparable to a GTX 480, only slightly inferior to a GTX 1050. I'm not sure about the Xbox One or PS4 Pro GPUs, but I imagine that they are likewise comparable to a mid-range PC GPU. And despite a clock speed notably lower than the average PC, both Sony and Microsoft still have 8 cores of Jaguar power. Depending on how well the mutli-threading is done, I see no reason why a 2GHz octo-core cannot perform comparably to a 3GHz quad-core (like many i5s) either, even if it's not as fast as an i7. With that in mind, I suspect that the game will look about as good on the current-gen consoles as it would on the average gaming PC. Sure, it will still look/run better on a high-end PC, but doesn't everything?

So I'm not too worried about the console version looking bad or running slow. If it does, then I doubt many PCs will run it much better considering how many gamers have something more modest than an i7/GTX1080 combo.
