Has the silencer on Overwatch sniper rifle failed ?

+
In my gameplay, the silencer on Overwatch didn't work and the enemy still noticed that I had shot. Has the silencer on Overwatch sniper rifle failed as it was a bug? Or has Overwatch been nerf once?:(:(

Are either of you using any mods, or have you ever used any in the past?

Quick research shows similar posts from about 5 years ago, but not a lot in between then and now. If mods can be ruled out, it's possible an older bug has resurfaced.

I do seem to recall having a similar issue with the Overwatch before I modded the game (I haven't used the Overwatch since modding it)

Not to mention the continually relevant bug where the gun doesn't get Stealth damage bonuses despite having the silencer (Of which is stats are balanced around, with an overall damage penalty compared to a regular Grad much like how all silencers function in game)

Suggesting that it's possible that the game is treating it as if it is unsilenced.

"Has the silencer on Overwatch sniper rifle failed ?"

Haven't used Overwatch much but the times I did the entire enemy squad instantly went full aggro. No different than the Grad. Need to use it again to see if there's any difference by now. And yes, all usages were instant kills.

You can send it in to CDPR Support and see what they say. Just know that if your present saved games have ever been modded, there's nothing that they can do. You might want to speed-through the game in 100% vanilla and save in an empty save slot to include a file:

Nah, it was a long time ago, like during 1.5. Besides, my game was and IS heavily modded, so could've been caused by a mod. Chances are the Overwatch has been fixed by now. Can also be that the impact was close to an enemy adversary. Not sure what exactly Cyberpunk's silencer mechanic entails. Only the silencer or also the round impact on accord of the proximity of any enemy target?

I haven't used the Overwatch in a long time, so I can't say much about its current functionality. But if I remember correctly, the silencer isn't completely silent. If you use it in close enough proximity to other enemies, I think they can hear it. I don't know what the effective silence range is though.

It's been a while since I used Overwatch, but I always thought it was because Overwatch is still powerful enough even with suppressor, to pierce through the enemy you're shooting at and so, hiting something behind, which is alerting all the enemies close enough. A bit like a "regular" gun with suppressor, if you kill an enemy, it's fine, but if you shoot on the ground, close enemies are alerted (I use this pretty often to "lure" enemies to a spot I want. Quite useful if you don't have a cyberdeck^^). Knowing that no matter what or which weapon, you have to one shot enemies, otherwise they all enter in combat at once.

But it's just a guess, so I could be wrong :)

Power weapons don't penetrate though. That's a feature of only Tech weapons.

Power weapons instead ricochet (If you don't hit a target. They don't ricochet off enemies so there's no chance of hitting an enemy and having the bullet ping off somewhere else).

So the Overwatch shouldn't be piercing any enemies.

Aye, some shots will still alert enemies.

Notably, shooting cameras will often cause enemies to become hostile, even using silenced weapons. It's my biggest issue when trying to do stealth builds without a Cyberdeck (I can turn a camera off and no-one cares. I can blow up an explosive barrel using my mind and no-one cares. I disable a camera using a silent weapon? EVERYONE is instantly alerted...)

Technically, not true. If you have the Gag Order perk, then additional attacks will prevent other enemies from entering combat.

It's much harder to accomplish with a Sniper Rifle due to the low rate of fire, but it is still doable to keep a target isolated.

There also isn't a limit to Gag Order's ability. You can use full auto-guns and spray a target and each bullet will trigger it (It also works for melee weapons too, you can run up to someone and beat them to a pulp with your bare hands and no-one else notices), even if they fight back they still remain isolated. It's basically like a T4 Sonic Shock provided you remain attacking them.

It's been a while since I use a Grad rifle, but I'm pretty sure they were able to pierce walls and light covers at some point (even Overwatch), like tech weapons. It might have changed since, but at the time, they were the only power weapon to do so.

Edit : Take a look here (reddit). As I said, 5 years old, it might have changed since.
Sniper rifles will pierce all walls, including the basement

Aye, I belived it changed with 2.0 when they revised all weapons.

Piercing was made tech-exclusive alongside allowing tech weapons to pierce uncharged, while significantly increasing their uncharged damage (And also stopping V from having a seizure when charging a tech weapon)

Just like Ricochet was made Power-exclusive (At least I guess. Breakthrough mentions having infinite ricochet alongside its infinite piercing, but in 2.0 I've never once seen a ricochet with it nor the ricochet indicator from Co-Ballistic. But I never used the weapon in 1.0 because tech snipers were unusable back then due to the mandatory charging and inability to aim due to the shakes, so I don't know if it was a unique thing back then)

I know that I've used Overwatch a bunch in 2.0 and never seen any indication of piercing, even for light cover.

That's the main reason I never use power weapons. I've never been able to get the ricochet to work properly. That's a user error on my part, because I also am terrible at billiards. My eyes simply can't judge alignment very well. With power weapons, by the time I fumble around and get the indicator to line up properly, the enemies have already killed me.

Now you say that, I think I remember people complaining on the forum about Grad rifle and Overwatch no longer able pierce walls.
Anyway, I remember at release, Overwatch depiste being "silenced" being "too unreliable" for stealth (sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't). I guess, it doesn't really change since...

I remember, a while ago, there was a bug about ricochet which can occure even on enemies themself (I captured a video about it at time). But since silencers entirely negate ricochet chances now (I think), it should be an issue anymore. Because again, there was a chance that a bullet perform a ricochet and hit something around the target (generally something you really do not want to hit, like a civilian or explosives^^).

Technically, the ricochet mechanic has some level of auto-aim. In fact, it's much stronger auto-aim than Smart weapons.

The main issue with going in on ricochet is... Even with a T5 Co-Ballistic you only have a 30% chance for a bullet to ricochet, with it being much worse outside that (Only 8% at T1) so most of the time it literally doesn't even work, which feels even worse for slower fire rate weapons like Snipers and Handcannons.

Meanwhile you can just toss a grenade at the guy behind cover, or wait for them to pop out to shoot you, or reposition to get sight on them instead of wasting time shooting at the floor/walls hoping for enough bullets to ricochet to actually do anything.

I still use Power weapons a bunch. But I just treat them like normal guns and usually ditch Co-Ballistic immediately. Never bothering to actually use ricochet.

As it may have been revised, we could rationalize the "sometimes alerts enemies" as a supersonic round creating the distinct pop as the bullet goes by, alerting enemies if they happen to notice the trajectory suggested by the noise, which would happen regardless of whether the report from the rifle itself were suppressed.

Eh? Ehhh???

...

(...or just report it.)
