hc.dll and 1.3 Patch

My AVAST antivirus detected the Trojan Horse "Win 32: Ranky-ID.The problem is that the trojan horse was on C:\Program Files\The Witcher\System\hc.dllSince a system file was infected, was my The Witcher instalation blown up?

I don't know what does it mean, but I suppose "Win 32: Ranky-ID" is the part of the hc.dll hard code - it is not a virus, it is recognized as a virus by AVAST since last viruses database update TODAY (25.04.2008).I have the same info - I'm using the AVAST too.If somebody is more clever in such cases, let me know if I'm wrong.

i got this as well with Avast!I was running US version 1.3 with the uncensored patch. I thought that maybe it was that uncensored patch that had the virus.I uninstalled the game. Scanned my whole computer. No virus.Reinstalled the game. Scanned the folder. No Virus.Downloaded the 1.3 patch. Installed. Virus found. So it's in the 1.3 patch where the hc.dll becomes infected.Unless i just don't understand how virus' work.Which is entirely possible.

Hi,The same me since 2008.04.28 AVAST update.I don't think it is virus, but part of code inside hc.dll which is the same string like Ranky-ID troyan.AVAST recognizes it as virus code.I didn't remove it and I play Witcher with 1.3 patch.Only what I have done:1. I configured inside Avast settings this file not to be checked anyway.2. Avast creates recovery information in System Volume Information/_restore in file Axxxxxxx.dll, where xxxxxxx is sequence file number.Avast alarms, that this file is also infected, so I made quarantine for this file and thats all.It is of course for my responsibility, but I didn't notice any propagation of this "virus" to other locations, so I wish it is only Avast mistake. If you will have any more precise information do not hesitate to inform us :)Maybe it is god idea to send this message about virus when generated by Avast to Avast company, maybe they answer the question?

OK,I got answer from The Witcher team - IT IS NOT VIRUS in hc.dll for patch 1.3 - the file is clear. It is only the part of code inside dll which is wrongly detected by Avast. They order to switch Avast off while playing Witcher, but my solution in previous mail is more common and safety while Avast is running.Have a nice play !

This is not unknown, that an antivirus application thinks a perfectly OK game is infested. I have also seen this with AVG and an old game. No need for panic.
