Help deciding between PC and PS4

Hello there, mates.
Wondering which platform would give me the best experience. Here are my pc specs: i5 4460 3.2 GHz, GTX 980, 16 GB ram. And theres the PS4. I would rather get it on my PC but i'd like to know if my specs can handle at least 1080 with very high/high and 60 fps.
thanks in advance

You can definitely handle the game at least on High with total ease, if not Ultra. I can't promise steady 60fps on the latter, though it seems pretty likely that you'll get those too with the level of graphics card that you have, You're definitely going to get a better performance on PC, regardless. With a GTX 980 under your belt, I don't think you should even bother with PS4, except for games that simply aren't available on PC.

thanks for the quick reply. I'm pretty sure my GPU can handle it. It's the CPU that worries me. Not sure if it's up to the task since the minimum is a Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz.

@ksaf it realy depents on what you like and what you want and what trade off's you can live with ..the ps4 is most likly cheaper than a new pc .. but you get lower graphics like fps and so, you are also stuck to controller.

with a pc on the other hand you have always a choice .. the more money you use the better graphics you get ( your setup was really okay so that should be good tho i always would go with an core i7 =P ) you can also buy a controller ( like the xbox one ) for it and play just like a console on your pc. or you change your mind and like more keyboard and mouse

so the question is what you want a cheap solution that will anyway work but will you like the trade offs? or do you have the founds for a pc ? thats somthing you need to decide =) i hope that helps you a bit ^^

Get the retail PS4 version from the store of your choice and the digital PC version from gog.com. This way you can play it from your sofa but also enjoy any community mods

Thanks, Thunder. I guess my question really is if my CPU can handle it. I'd rather play it on my pc. I'm willing to upgrade said CPU but only if i really need to.

Quoted you but thats also for the OP yep...

You know you can play from the comfort of your sofa with the PC as well and not just that... you can use any type of peripherals on your PC KB/M, xbox 1, xbox 360, PS3 PS4, logitech controllers just to mention a few examples (or most common).

Given the high specs for PC with minimal difference in visuals, I would go with PS4.

Thanks folks. Like i said before, at this point i'm just wondering if my CPU is up to the task. Not really savy as far as hardware go. Can the i5 4460 3.2 GHz handle the game?

i would not yet say there is almost no difference .. pixelated video dont count for me .. and youtube compresses the video so bad that allot of detail is always lost ...

Are you joking? His PC is more than enough to max out the witcher 3 at that resolution with at least double the framerate of a ps4.

Yes, easily. I'd stick to PC if I was you.

You have a top end PC. Get the game for PC. Anyone suggesting to him to get a console should be ashamed. Also he wants to play with 60fps. A console can't do that.

According to them, yes:
http://www.pcgames.de/The-Witcher-3-PC-237266/Videos/Ersteindruecke-zur-Performance-der-PC-Version-1159030/

They say it runs great:
for full HD and Ultra settings a medium GPU with 2GB VRAM is sufficient (which frankly surprises me).

Important for you: they underclocked their i7 4790k to 2.0 GHz and deactivated hyperthreading.

Since there is not that much difference between the i7 and the i5 processors (hyperthreading being the main difference, along with some usually higher frequency) you should be more than fine with 3.2 GHz. I just checked, the high end processors are about 10%-20% faster than yours. Not sure if you're serious about this.

So 1040 should be absolutely no problem for your system, probably even in ultra settings. 60Hz - well, they didn't tell about this, but this is usually NOT CPU dependent but GPU.

I still can't figure out why you ask if you should switch to PS4- it's obviously inferiour. You'll never get 60Hz out of the PS4. You'll never get Ultra settings out of the PS4. Your rig is way better than a PS4.

And I also can't figure out why someone who claims not to undertand the components of his PC has 16GB RAM, the processor you have and such an expensive GPU.

Well, i'm new to high end pc gaming. I thought i had figured i nice spec but i decided to run one of those "can i run it" apps and it told me the CPU was not up to it. Got a little confused and decided to ask here.

Well. It depends on how you want to game from this moment forward.

Console Gaming: Plug & Play

PC Gaming: Can I run it

Then again it comes to personal pref. So up to you.

With a PC like that I would totally go for the PC version. A GTX 980 should be enough to run the game on Ultra. You can even play with a PS4 controller if you want to.

I think this guy is trolling... a 980, that is like the price of a car in my country geese! With that PC you should be able to run ANYTHING.

And no that i5 will not give you any bottleneck, it is just slightly below an i7 and if you go and compare the requirements that consoles have, you can easily match them as consoles have 8 AMD's at 1.6ghz. 4 Intel CPU's at 3.2 are more then enough to match and even surpass anything by AMD.

I love my PS4 but that is simply the truth.
