Here is my problem with HOS

Here is my problem with HOS

I Have Played Witcher 3 through 3 times but HOS is making me not want to play anymore and certainly not buy the upcoming DLC's the problem is it is too hard to be enjoyable anymore, the caretaker was tough but after about 12 starts finally got him.

The fight 'Iris's Greatest Fear' is just too tough for me even on the lowest settings, when I say too tough, I could preserve and know I would finally get it, but it is not enjoyable any more especially when I have stopped playing MGSV and AFF to do the new DLC.

I play games yes for a challenge but also entertainment not to be made to feel inadequate, I hope this gets to the publishers for some consideration as I know from other forums I am not alone in these comments.

Thats a shame. I managed the caretaker on normal with using quen and attacking at the right time, when he has his axe stuck etc. Iris greatest fear killed me several times, till I got lazy and turned it down to easy. On easy I had no problem killing him at all. Are you high enough level ?Maybe you need to upgrade your gear or something.

Finished it on Deathmarch and I must say the damage the enemies could take was ridiculous. Lowly spiders took more hits than Eredin. I felt like a weakling when going against bandits even tho I had the 69 level gear.
Caretaker fight was awesome, it felt just right to me.
Trick with the nightmare is to attack 1 at a time.

Most of the players enjoy the fight as it is now even on death march difficulty, and nerfing the boss would be a disappointment. I hope CDPR won't do that. Hard to believe you struggle with this boss at lowest difficulty...What do you want, to kill him with 3 hits? Learn the pattern, adapt to the fight...

OP, what is your level and what kind of gear are you using? Which mutagens, and which skills do you have enabled?

What exactly do u do when u start up fighting the Greatest Fear?

With the nightmares make sure you're not hitting any of them that are on the side and are not moving. If you hit them they become active and thus making the fight harder. Hope this helps. :)

Not trying to sound condescending, but it really is a matter of adjusting your battle strategy and build. Recall my first Wild Hunt playthrough was at the second lowest difficulty, and I had a full combat build. Pretty much smashed and slashed everything in sight without any real strategy, even the final bosses, and I found it a bit too easy. Then i upped the ante and tried Death March NG+, and wolves were killing me with 3-4 hits, Eredin killing me with 2 hits, and it really forced me to change my approach.

You might need to load an older save file, but if it's really not working for you, could mean your build isn't balanced enough for the fight with Greatest Fear and you need to change it with respec potion. If you find your health draining too quickly, try something that will increase your vitality and/or endurance, mutagens, better armor, decoctions. Haven't seen what effect bombs have on the Olgierds, and have yet to read about someone killing them with Igni or effectively dealing with them with Signs, but I find whirl a very effective tool in killing several of them at once. And like everyone else in this thread have mentioned, unless you're whirling, don't hit multiple targets at once. Multiple enemies in an enclosed area are always overwhelming

This is as close to the advice I can give you to how I deal with the nightmares

The mechanic is simple once you get used to it. However, I am a dark soul series gamer so figuring out the mechanics and patience was always my way

For me, most of the boss fights in the main game were pretty straight-up hack and slash ups and I think CDPR just wanted to discourage this in the expansion. Even though HoS's difficulty is raised over the rest of the game, all the bosses can be cheesed in a number of ways. But I know it took me a lot of effort to figure out what worked for my character.

Hopefully CDPR won't nerf the bosses ;) Enjoyed the fights, even if I died a lot...

The boss fights are the only reason i'm not replaying HOS. I got through them on normal ok, but the jump in difficulty was crazy. I completed the main story on deathmarch, but HOS was just too frustrating,
Also with hindsight imho I think it was a mistake to have the quest start at level 30, it should of been around the level 10-15. Having wolves and drowners at level 30 just doesn't seem right, it segregates the northeast section of the map making it an area that would be far too difficult to explore at a low level. The majority of quests side content and whatever that's around that area before HOS is around the level 6-12. Its too far a gap in levels. Now if the higher level monsters were different kinds, then that wouldn't be such a problem.
The "rewards" (herbalists) for clearing abandoned sites are a joke. By level 30 nobody should even need these.
It does feel like an expansion, but not in a good way, its not properly integrated into the witcher 3 world.

Usually I wouldn't respond to this thread but I have the feeling this kind of threads regarding the Witcher 2 difficulty were the reason why Witcher 3 is so ridiculously easy- even on Death March. The increased difficulty and the interesting boss mechanics are two of several reasons why this dlc is so awesome (and better than the main game).
Well done and I hope you continue this path with Blood&Wine. (and please -for the sake of god- patch Eredin. It's almost impossible to die during that fight)

Going to have to disagree with you on this one. The base game was pretty easy, even on Death March, and I enjoy the added challenge of HoS. When I finally beat Iris' Nightmare today, I felt like a champ.

You just got to stick with it and have patience. Most of the bass battles in the Witcher are about timing and noticing patterns. You have to have a plan before engaging.

As indicated before I appreciate the comments and advice and have now conquered those that were not conquered before, my feelings have not changed however, the process of overcoming the 'Boss's' whilst a part of the story does not add to the story only creates a degree of frustration for me that makes me want to go back to my other AAA games where effort is rewarded.

For me, I play games for entertainment, story line and adventure, very rarely MP mostly Campaign, just so you understand me!

I absolutely agree, they fell into the trap a small number of times in the main game. But they where particularly bad in the dlc, where it feels like they decided something would be hard and then made it so, as apposed from it coming directly from the game design.

I have no issue with hard games. I love the souls series for example, but when you die to something that is hard, you have to feel like it was you making as mistake. That didn't happen in this dlc, I felt like I got lucky and finally passed it. Part of the problem is the combat system isn't very good in close quarters or against many enemies at once. Forcefully make the player fight with both several times was simply bad design.

I'm easy going player. I just hate it when fighting is only purpose of the game. I love good stories, I love to loot, wandering around the world and I just enjoy the beautiful landscapes. Witcher fighting is nice on easy, 'cause it's not just hack and slash, you have to use different elements. I didn't need potions or bombs that much, but different signs kept it interesting. Most games are too simple when you play easy. Easy doesn't have to be boring :(

In HoS bandits were my hardest part :D Bosses were trickier than the base game bosses, but that Ofieri mage was only boss who surprised and killed me 'cause I was focusing my laptop when the fighting started. No one to blame but myself... HoS was tougher, yes, but I kinda liked it. It wasn't too hard for me and I played it with default Geralt. I think the next time with my own Geralt with proper armor it will be even easier.

But to be honest, they dropped the difficulty with HoS bosses in 1.11? I defeated Toad and that Ofieri mage in 1.10 and they felt a bit harder than rest of the bosses. I liked that expansion, nice challenge but not too much for me. Only part I didn't like at all was that time limit quest. I HATE time limits!!! That was easy too when you figured it out, but still, I HATED IT because of that tic-tic-tic... :D I became so nervous that I started panicking and stupidly killed myself by falling of the cliff a couple of times and I got stuck everywhere while trying to hurry... :censored:
