Hey, You Wanna Look at my Stuff Quest Bugged

I was trying to do this quest when I was interrupted by a cutscene about some bandits asking for my help tracking a hurt friend. The quest required me to "Search the area using your witcher senses", and had the large yellow investigation circle, but after the cutscene there's just a marker leading to where he was standing. There's no "leads" in the area that I can find using my witcher sense anymore, and the quest still wants me to search the area. I've tried leaving the area, meditating, doing other quests and coming back, but it's still bugged.

Exactly the same issue i was stopped by witch hunters and this guy ran of after following the scent trail i come to him standing at the head of a small alley and can do nothing else i have tried the methods quoted by the OP but nothing works could we get some feedback on this please.
