Weapons will upgrade with your level. Im level 52 and and i can buy level 53 swords from Skellige blacksmiths. The armor from loots you get from the world is always a little bit below your level. I have the Undvik heavy armors and Hindarsfjall. Both have high damage resistance. I liked the latter coz Geralt looks like a japanese bad ass samurai.

I'm at Level 70 & I can't go any higher as kills no longer give XP & my weapons & armor are all maxed out & far far more powerful than the witcher gear or anything you can get via a diagram. I have collected every bit of armor in the game & forced it to give me better & better versions as I progressed. Most Body Armor maxes out at around 350, Pants around 200 & Gloves are about 145. I also have some slightly less powerful but with amazing health point stats.

I've been doing the relic sword upgrade trick with the two Elvin traders who sell them as they are the only way to get 3 slot relic swords after you have completed everything getting the Super Dol Blathanna steel sword & the silver sword Adden Deith. You can find them both in unmarked camps in Velen. The first is just south of the loggers hut near Novigrad & the other is south of crossroads near Oxenfert. I kept hitting them until they sold one with higher stats forcing them to give me better & better versions. It was dam pricey though 5-6 thousand for a steel & 10-12 for a silver so had to do a vast amount of nest farming to get all the coin & they usually go up 20 points or so a time but near the end as you approach Level 70 they only went up 1 or 2 points. I ended up with a Dol Blathanna with something like 582-638 damage & Adden Death that's got a blistering 722-866 far far greater than any diagrams or those offered by other traders. I can kill anything even the basilsc or cow chort in just a few blows.

After you hit level 60 it's the axes that are the most powerful steel weapons you can get & even my super charged Dol Blathanna falls short compared. You can get them from the smith in southern Oxenfert & in Novigrad from the one near the fish market & you do the same trick as with the Elvin traders forcing them to give you better & better versions. I currently have Dervian Axe at level 70 & it's around 622-735 & cuts down anything with one strike but my favorite is the level 60 Wild Hunt Warrior Axe that's about 50 point less but has 200 armor piercing points & looks cooler.

Could you tell some more about that trick? And post some screenshots of your gear?

I tested my level 52 Geralt with Barons guard, around 15 of them and level 64. I found a good combo of decoctions and Geralt becomes really tough because of armor high resistance using Undvik Armors. (100% resistance to piercing and bludgeoning and 92% resistance to slashing with decoc, number will increase in time during battle). So when im figthing those guards for fun, no need to use the god mode (raffards + delayed). For now, this is my best armor, Undvik & Hindarsfjall.

It's easy, Each trader sells one specific 3 slot relic sword. Make sure you have that sword equipped & every time you go up a level visit the Elvin trader & keep going in & out the menu until they offer you a better sword. You might have to do this a few dozen times until one shows up with better stats then you just buy it. Initially they offer swords with 10-20 points or so higher but later in the game as you go past Level 60 upwards that dropped to just a few points & around level 66 it stopped working for me altogether as there must be a limit to how far you can push it up. It's important you do this every time you jump a level as the point increasing is always 10-20 points no matter what even if you have jumped 5 levels so the increase will be the same as if you just jumped one level. I'm @ work so will take some screen shots later tonight & post them tomorrow .

I checked those two traders, are there other traders who offer different 3 slot relic swords?

I am level six thousand and I use a peacock feather sold from a blacksmith deep beneath the earth. It currently out-damages all the weapons in the game combined. This is my fiftieth playthrough and I have 4.3 billion hours played. I am using the Atari Jaguar version of the game on a 5k monitor made of duct tape and string. No I cannot show you any proof because I am too mighty for such paltry things.

Not that I'm aware & as far as I can tell they are the only way you can get relics after you have looted every chest or finished all the quests.

Here's a few screen shots of the some of the weapons & Armor I collected along the way.

Shame. Personally I don't like the look and the bonuses those swords have. But after my experience from previous playthrough I'm gonna leave any chest I find with relic swords in it and go back when I reach high level, I ended up with too many useless low level swords and armors. Good there's one witcher steel sword from DLC contract which scales to your level.

Know what you mean but thatst all they offer plus the more powerful the sword gets the less powerful its special ability's become.

Yeah, I don't like any specific sign power bonuses on sword, but special effects like burn, poison or bleed may give better result than using Igni or skills, in cost of lower chance for that to happen. That's why I tend to stick to ursine swords because of critical damage bonus and adrenaline gain. And those bonuses aren't affected by higher level enemies' resistance.

I liked the steiger and faroe swords better coz of 83% crit hit damage bonus.

I'm also at level 70, I stayed with griffin build. Level 64 legendary mastercrafted armor set and swords with Igni build. Everything burns in seconds (except immune ones of course).

@Zoolock I hope you wouldnt mind explaining me a bit that trick, which trader exactly do i have to go to, and should i sell him my sword? or just have it equipped?, and what do you mean by keep hitting, should i choose many times dialogue show me your wares? or actually hit him with sword?

Highest dps silver sword end game is the Negotiator, by a pretty large margin. 16% crit chance plus max damage roll of near 1100. Also the innate armor penetration makes it great against the Wild Hunt.

A max rolled Weeper comes semi close in dps if you have a lot of crit chance mods but lacks the armor penetration affix.

@ Lukaszus2 You can find the first Elvin trader the one who sells the steel sword on a hill in an unmarked camp just south of the 'loggers hut' in Velen. Make sure you have that sword equipped to use as that seems to affect the stats of the one he sells. Just keep going in & out the menu 'Show me your wares' & when you go back in again the stats of his swords will have changed so do it again until he sells a better version of the sword. Each sword he sells is around 5000 coin so its not cheap & once you get one that's better buy it as he won't sell you a better one until you go up a level. You can then exit & unequip your current sword & go back & sell it to him if you want as he will be rolling in coin but he only pays 500 for it. The second Elvin trader who sells the silver sword is found in an unmarked camp south of the post marked 'crossroads' in the area South East of Oxenfert. Just follow the path south from the post until you go over a small bridge & he's on the right. You do the same as with the other trader equip the sword then keep going in & out 'Show me your wares' until he offers you a better one but beware his swords are 10-12000 a pop.
