How can I go back to patch 1.2?

How can I go back to patch 1.2?

I'd like to go back to the previous version of the game because of the decreased FOV. I did a complete reinstall, but interrupted the launcher at the end before it could update the game to the latest version. I applied the day 0 patch instead, then I proceeded to manually install patch 1.1 and 1.2, but the launcher always gives me the "Installed game version is invalid or incomplete" message. What did I go wrong? Thanks in advance!

(I have the Hungarian retail version btw)

I think you should completly unistall the game first. I mean deleting any trace of files left behind in the system folders. Also I would delete any reg key. If you don't want to lose you savefiles, move them into another folder. Then try to reinstall and apply patches in the order you like.

Thanks for your superfast reply! I did everything exactly like this except the "delete any reg key" part. How do I do that? (sorry, I'm such a noob)

Download CCleaner or Argente - Registry,

In CCleaner: Registry>Search for errors>Solve errors.
In Argenta: Main>Clean registry.

CCleaner is more complex but Argenta has got better algorithms...

Thanks! This time I cleaned the registry too using CCleaner but the problem remained, I still get "Installed game version is invalid or incomplete". :\

I read the relevant part in the technical FAQ and everything seems to be in order. The problem may be caused by the old, original patcher, but the new patcher immediately upgrades the game to version 1.3. This is frustrating, there must be a way to go back to the previous version, I remember reading about it among the comments in the news section (but all comments have been deleted).

CCleaner reg cleaner isn't efficient at all. Sometimes you need to manually remove them. For some reason, CCleaner cannot spot certain unused and old regkeys.

Click Start>Run and type REGEDIT

Follow this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CDPRojekt RED\TW2\
clean all the keys you can find there.

I checked and after uninstalling the game they get deleted as well, so the reg keys can't cause the problem. Maybe I should give up and either play version 1.0 or 1.3...

Thanks for all the help!

Try the sets of patches here one should be the one your looking for
How to manually patch the game
1. get the patch(es) first and foremost doesn`t matter in what order just as long as you have the ones you want or need
2. disconnect from the internet
3. install the game
4. close the launcher or cd-key registration
5. all versions of the patches are here http://en.thewitcher.com/patch1-3/
6. retry the game
7. reconnect to the internet

The key here is: disconnect from the internet.

Thanks again, now I installed the game while disconnecting from the internet, and I'd found the linked page and downloaded the patches I needed earlier. Right now the game is not activated (because I closed the activation window) and no matter which patch I tried to apply, I still got the same "Installed game version is invalid or incomplete" message.

Try to find "Patcher_EFIGS.exe" (or similar patchers, depending on your region/version) and install this first before patch 1.1. and so on. To make sure, read the following link carefully: http://www.en.thewitcher.com/patch/

Finally, success thanks to you! :D

I googled the Hungarian patcher (it's simply called Patcher_HU.exe) and found a newer version than my own that upgrades the game to version 1.1. After that I could install patch 1.2 without problem and the game works with flawless widescreen, hell yeah!
Damn, this wasn't so complicated after all, too bad these patchers are not available here in the official Witcher homepage anymore.

It's not the registry that's the problem. It's that uninstalling the game doesn't remove the files from the installation directory. After you uninstall, you have to manually delete everything in the location where you previously had the game before reinstalling, or else install the game to a new location to avoid that "invalid version" message.

I know that and I did delete everything manually that remained after uninstalling the game; in my case the problem was caused by the Patcher file.
