How can I use Obelisks ?

I'm playing THE WITCHER. I've run across obelisks that seem to offer some ability to store some things. Please detail their use.
-what can they store ?
-how do get the items back besides trekking back to the same obelisk ?
-will items stored stay there until I remove them ?
-can you store items in them ? Is it just alchemy items ?
-does storage improve as the game progresses. Inventory seems difficult to manage.

You've misunderstood the purpose of the obelisks. Is this in Chapter 2? If so, wait for the game to progress, and you'll find out why they're there.

If you're looking for storage, go and speak to the innkeeper at The Hairy Bear, he provides storage and can store an unlimited amount. Whatever you store with him will automatically get shipped to another innkeeper in the next chapter. But beware Chapter 5...

Spoiler

There's no innkeeper and access to your stuff is severely restricted. Make sure you already have what you're likely to need, or go looking for a mod.
