Saw an article about the game on a gaming website sometime around late 2006/early 2007 with this screenshot:

Got super interested in the game, followed it up until the fall release date and bought it day 1. Even with the bugs and painfully long loading times I knew after the first couple of hours it was an instant classic material. After I'd played it through it became my favorite WRPG of all time and one of the best games I've ever played. And still is today.

I think Ive told it before in another thread, but I'll expand on the details...
The opening scene absolutely blew my mind -I must ve watched that like 50 times, each time I launched the game, :p-. By the end of chapter 1, when this wretched mutant :p and outcast saves the day by actually giving a speech about being mercyful and kind, instead of resorting to his sword, I was totally in love with the guy. :p But it wasnt only that the protagonist was cool and badass. THIS was clearly a very well thought out game, crammed with details, and impressive atmosphere and music, of a caliber I had rarely seen in games before...
The luscious package of the Enhanced Edition also impressed me, together with the fact that these were Polish developers.

I totally agree with your opinion. The same happens to me every time i play the first The Witcher. I use to listen at the soundtrtack(incidentally the best soundtrack ever made) while I'm doing my workout exercises :)

So, I'm not the only one who trains here? Finally! I was about to feel alone here haha
Ok jokes aside, I know it's OT, but what kind of workout you do, pal?

I was quite unlucky falling in love with the series. I had bought TW2 a while back from a bargain bin at Gamestop, played it for a small while, but was not getting acceptable framerate so I just threw the game aside. Fast forward to June 2014, Steam summer sales are in full force and the TW1:EE is on sale for a steal at $4.something. Snagged it up, and fell in love with it immediately. After played over 200 hours, I decided to play the old TW2 again, and take another stab at it. After getting the non-DRM version of it, the framerate was MUCH better, allowing me to enjoy a full playthrough, and hungry for the 3rd game and a love-struck nerd for the Lore of the game.

I first saw a witcher 1 poster of Geralt vs the striga some years back and thought "meh, another generic fantasy game". boy was i bloody wrong. Some years later, ign's video review of witcher 2 kept popping up everywhere I went so I decided to give it a peek and suffice to say, I'm now on my 9th or so playthrough(coming from a guy who ditches a game after the 1st) and about 80% through the last book.(I literally read only 5 books between 2005 and 2008). So that's what the witcher series did to me. When 3 comes, my PC is gonna have to beg me to stop playing.

Never heard of it...

To be honest i did not know ANYTHING about the Witcher world until i bought the Witcher game the first one. That was the first time i even heard of such a thing so when the game ended i wanted more i thought nooooooooooooooo this can't be it i wanna know what happened to Geralts friends.

Then when The Witcher 2 came out i was like oh wow this is awesome ( you know those comical big bug eyed cartoon you see yeah kind of like that :D ) I think i have played it through now like 10 times never ever have i played a game through more then once or twice so there was just something about the Witcher2...

Not a big fan of Roche i know he is just doing what he has to but still...

When TW1 came out I was like 10 xD, my brother played through it and I gave it a shot after him aswell. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the graphics but it wasn't a game for a 10 year old. I played through like 2 acts then I moved on to something else and dropped it. Later TW2 came out and after ACT 1 I fell in love with the game.
Played through it like 3 times in a row, then I played and finished TW1 finally. After that I read all the books and picked up the Reasons of State comic. After that the witcher insanity kicked out naturally. I'm not that big of a book reader, I usually stop when I'm halfway through a book but I kept reading the whole saga continuously, so there must be some dark polish magic behind it and the games. I lost count how many times I replayed TW2.

I saw witcher 2 on steam and was intrigued at first glance... looked exactly like smth I was waiting for... and it was.
Fell in love with it & it was the reason I started my youtube channel.... witcher 2 was by far the best rpg experience Ive ever had.... the dark fantasy setting with great characters & dark mode :D.... after my first playthroughs I read the whole book series and made my witcher movies... which I then shared on youtube... now im quite happily waiting for w3 which will probably be the pinnacle of my lifes rpg gaming experience ...
Mass effect is kind of the mirror image since its scifi ... it comes abit short on the gameplay aspect but makes up for it with its amazing story and characters...

After reading a swedish book called "Let the Right One In" I wanted a fantasy book with same, than I learned about Witcher 2 through Steam, then tried Last Wish before playing the game actually.

After reading witcher books I will hunt another european fantasy book!

any advice?

What started for me :p
Up until I saw that music video I couldn't help myself but thinking Geralt as a Khain ripp off and Witcher some generic hack&slash. But when I saw that video I noticed a "process" in witcher's work so I researched a bit, and got the Enhanced Edition. I think I really really started loving the world, characters and the atmosphere by Chapter III.
