How do I raise my FPS?

+
I did a benchmark test in-game (screenshot below) and feel like I should have higher FPS. Could my slightly outdated CPU be the cause, or are there other settings I can play around with to raise my FPS?

I don't want to sound like a d*ck, but those FPS are fine. Are you aware that path tracing is still in early development and that Cyberpunk 2077 is the first triple A game that pulls this off, path tracing without rasterization lighting.

And you want more FPS while you already have average 80fps?

The only way to get a higher FPS is maybe to get indeed a better CPU. I have between 60 to 70 with a Ryzen 7 1800x with a RTX 4080. But I'm going to buy the 14th of Intel once they come out.

But anyway, you are already in the top performance. Many people don't even get 60 fps, with path tracing.

So no, I don't think you can't get much higher then this.

Yea thats probably as much as you can get on your specs. 80 is fine for the bench, its generally a bit higher ingame.

Got it, thanks for that. I was watching Asmongold do his benchmark test averaging like 160 FPS or something crazy, so when I saw mine get half that FPS I thought I was doing something wrong.

I was about to say... those numbers look hella solid to me. I'd kill for a fraction of that lol (just kidding, don't take that literally please).
Anyways, I'm running the game on a rather old machine (Ryzen 5 1500x, Radeon RX 480) and it's very much playable.

Sure, my average FPS might be more around 50-something instead of 80+ but that's good enough for me.
And believe it or not, it doesn't even look half bad. All those years of tweaking experience finally paying off. :D

if you lower the resolution to 1080 ya might get some, but as others have said thats fine

Yeah pretty solid for a 4080. I have a 4090 and despite being cpu limited by a 5800x I'm usually above 140 fps in 2k all maxed out beside DoF, blur and aberration. Path tracing eats 15-20 fps.

Ray Tracing and especially Path Tracing use more CPU too. I think Daniel Owen showed it on his video, where CPU bottleneck was way worse with both ray tracing and path tracing.

If you really wanna see if your CPU bound you should get a overlay to see your GPU usage. It should be at 99% or close all the time. If your cpu bound you would se it drop quite a bit at times since your cpu cant feed your gpu fast enough.

I did test some back in 1.5 i think, i managed to get cpu bound at 1080p with DLSS quality (witch means pretty much 720p) as you can see gou usage is never 99% pretty much.

I really just wanted to know how much my CPU is holding me back from playing this game on max settings with no issues. With a 4080 that I bought earlier this year, I'm not going to upgrade to a 4090 at this point, but my CPU and RAM hardware are almost 3 years old at this point, and I don't have the tech knowledge to tell how much of an effect they have.

That said, I recently finished my first playthrough, along with the PL expansion, on max settings without too many issues - I was just wondering what piece of hardware in particular would get me to higher FPS, even if it's hard to even see a difference in.

Cpu will probably not hold you back much yet, depending on what resolution you play at. Ram speeds could i guess in some games. It did not use to matter but lately ram speeds has hade some effect in some games. Not sure about cp2077 tho. But like i said as long as GPU usage is close to 99% theres no issue. ALT+R shows nvidias overlay if you have Geforce experience installed should be a GPU usage monitor on that.

If its not at 99% a new CPU would help. If it is you might need a 4090 for more FPS and that could cause your cpu to not keep up again...

Seems to have some effect. Its kinda old article tho so.
