How many times?? (might contain SPOILERS)

How many times did it take you "guys" to beat the Kayran?

I swear on my first play through i felt like i never get through this part as soon i got one tentacle ( or what ever you wanna call them ) cut the damn thing smacked me so hard that it almost dropped my health in half and finally few times the inevitable happened


I swear it was like 10th or 12th time ( i was seriously getting frustrated by that time ) when i finally got through it and i swore never to return to that section of a game but it seems that paractise makes you perfect

On the 13th time i actually made it dunno how just pure luck

How many ? I don`t remember but it was far more than 10 - 12 . This is the first game i`ve played with QTE`s so i didn`t know quite what to expect or how many times i was going to die while trying to complete this part . But i remember quite well the frustration i felt ... until finally i made it . Joy and jubilation followed immediately after it`s demise and then i got to thinking about it ... let`s see Kayran 30+ and me 1 not so good odds but damn the 1 felt good .

Oh and the pain when you finally cut those tentacles off and had to clime on top of that rubble and try not to get smacked by that thing lost few lives on that part too. I was like NOOOOOOOOOO i just got this far and you do this 2 me

There were few colorful words when i had to start all over again now it makes me laugh but then it was not so funny

it really didnt take long guys ..... after 2 tries i found the spot on the corner where you could stand while the kayran was mad and regain vigor ..... after that it was no problem .... though as geralt said " the beast got me a few times "

Wow lucky you i tried that 2 times but i was too slow (obviously) and when i came out of the hiding the damn thing smacked me so needles to say i didn't try that more then twice

Now it goes like nothing to it just played that thing through 2 day and it seemed to be easier then before i guess it is true in some part that practice makes you perfect but they never added the part how frustrating it is to become "perfect"

i always kept quen on .... i mean like the 1st time i played the game i didnt even try to improve at combat ..... although i got it the 3rd time defeating the kayran was hard especially when the game lags like hell on my PC......

I remember the first time when Sile is screaming like use the the sign what was it yarden or something like that i was wondering ok where do i find this thing?? When she keeps screaming that use the damn sign and to trap it i thought you come down and trap it and at that moment Geralt actually says something like that made me laugh

How did you get through the rubble part i actually died few times on that part i had so little life left so when it smacked me i died and with all honesty i was so so so mad that i had restart that thing again

Ya that was sick ... i had never used yarden bfore ....... but now that there is a tutorial i dont think people will have any problem ...

I bought the game as soon as it came out (i bought the DVD-version at first) so there was no if i recall a real tutorial on the screen but i could be wrong because it has changed little bit especially if you have played Iorveths path you find out there is one or 2 things in the dialog that has changed... it used to say

If Letho's betrayed me he's a dead man but now it says something like be careful he's very quick with a sword

there is a tutorial now, after patch 2 that is, it was really helpful as before i never knew how to use axii sign ....

Dark mode minus the swords and armor feels a lot like when the witcher 2 first came out and people were screaming about the game being too hard and i`m pretty sure one of the patches lessened the difficulty as it seemed to be a lot easier after 1.2 i think .

But yeah the rubble pile got me killed a few times as well . I remember too on difficult QTE when you ride the tentacle there comes a small qte where you need to press the spacebar to get off . Well i wasn`t fast enough with the spacebar and i did fall off to my death yet again . Oh yes did i have a few very decorative metaphors strung out , you bet i did .

Now i envy you on your 2nd try WOW you are a serious bad ass then i got killed when i tried to sneak behind that statue and when i actually got to the statue and tried to leave the damn thing smacked me and i died and the rock throwing seriously ROCKS you throw rocks at me wish i could of done that

I think i got stuck in that slime couple of times too

When i actually got to the damn bridge and tried to dodge the damn tentacles the thing got me again now it goes like a smooth sailing but then it wasn't funny when you die and you die and die again and all you wanna do is get on with the story line.

There were few carefully chosen words when i died and i tried so hard not to get killed i think it was my 13th try when i finally got it by accident of course, how else? I had seriously like so little life left that one rock would of finished me off but when i got to the top of the bridge and that's all she wrote for the Kayran

Needless to say i was grinning the hole day i was HAPPY ( oh it's the small things that bring you joy some times )that the thing was finally DEAD

I defeated the Kayran on my third try. The biggest problem for me ended up being the quick time event when you ride the tentacle, but I solved it by lowering my resolution for that section. I enjoyed the battle, and after memorizing the attack patterns it became a fun battle for me. In the end I even felt sorry for the poor beast.

Hmm I got stuck there for a while indeed... Finally I succeeded on maybe 10th-12th try. But I admit I had to stop playing a few times and go for a "refreshing" walk for a moment On my next playthrough it was a piece of cake really. So it´s a big difference once you figure out what to do. So from the very hated moment of the game it has become one of my favourites. That´s the proper witcher´s work.

Wow seriously on your 3rd time? Oh boy i just sucked at it ( see this is why Witchers train there hole lives) and it didn't help Sile there screaming trap it with yareden (sorry if i wrote that wrong some on pls correct me if i did) i swear i had to mute all sound at one point i coudn't stand her screaming this was about 10th time...

Ok so that didn't help either well the beast would of been cute if it didn't try to kill me or slime or poison me i was happy that i could finally move on with the story line ( it was cruel to put us to the test right of the bat )

When i first saw that Kayran i thought ok and i'm supposed to fight that?? HOW? well it turns out that bigger they are harder they fall.... Yes i was glad when the battle was finally over

I just hated the Kayran but now it is easy when you know what to do. When you play the first time you don't know weather to cry or laugh or rage like a lunatic when it is so frustrating to get through it. It was my 13th time when i finally got to it so yes wooho worked like a charm oh wait it was an accident so does that really count?

I just had to play it through once again to get those screen shots thankfully i didn't have to spend my hole day and night to get passed it THIS TIME

Executing the strategy is simple once you know what to do.

The things that you need to learn/figure out are:

*That you cant chop off the central tenticles (I spent alot of time trying to snare and chop them off, then recognized that I never had any luck with them.

*How to get onto the tentacle for a ride. I was chopping off three tentacles and the fight never advanced any farther than this. It wasnt until I watched a youtube video that I realized what I needed to do next.

*How to get off the tentacle without getting smashed.


Basically, the fight involves a bunch of things that you have to know. Either you have to puzzle them out over repeated attempts or watch/read spoilers. If someone gets it in 10-12 tries, without looking at any videos, that is beyond outstanding.

It took me at least ten tries to figure out I couldnt chop off either of the central tenticles. Probably 20 tries. At first I thought there might be certain areas where the traps worked. It only dawned on me after repeated attempts that I had never chopped a central one. That you have to work one side and then the next.

At that point I was chopping off tentacles without problems, but had no idea how to advance the fight, I had to watch a spoiler vid.

10-12 tries without any spoilers? I call bs.
