Since patching to 1.4 EE, I now crash once every hour or so either opening a door or in a melee. I never had any CTDS with 1.3 and I have not changed hardware or drivers. I love this game but I might stop playing and wait for a fix.

Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear it, Modem, wish I could say the same. .. and my sympathies go out to ya, Luv, I was feeling similarly about halfway through Chapter One, but then I tweaked things a bit more on my new system, and it smoothed out .. to 'live-able' .. not 'good'. :wall:

Two or three times during the Prologue, and then nothing after that.

I'm halfway through Chapter II with Enhanced Edition now and I have had a crash once during my gameplay, so works fine for me :peace:

I crash to desktop every few hours. Very frustrating. Seems to happen about 2/3 of the time when zoning, and the other 1/3 of time it doesn't matter what I'm doing.I previously played the 1.0 and 1.1 versions. I don't recall any crashes.I'm using Vista with older Geforce drivers - Dec 2007. (City of Heroes, my current MMO of choice, doesn't like the newer versions.)

Every time I start a new game, I crash once in the prologue, then never again. Almost as if it has to "get it out of its system" early on. :D

Mines used to crash all the time last christmas, then when i installed the patches (1.2 i think) and got the hotfixes for my version of vista everything seemed alot better but then after an hour or so its crashed! very VERY frustrating indeed. I mean whats the point of buying a game if you are going to spend most of your time just trying to get the thing to work? But anyway, I decided that i would give it another go now that 1.4 extended edition and stuff is out and i have already got rid of the TAGES shite so hopefully after i have finished downloading the 909MB worth of extended edition patch!!...it should be alright...i hope....Put it this way, since i bought the game last year i have not been able to play it for more than an hour or so so i have not played it since about January 2008, i figured i would come see if i could actually play the game now.

Your setup is somewhat similar to mine, in that we're both running Vista and we seem to have similar CtD frequencies and circumstances. I'm running every driver on the system with the newest-latest-greatest drivers but no beta code. I've got a quad-core AMD Phenom chip, Gateway motherboard, and the ATI Radeon HD 3200 video card that it came with .. as usual, I'll upgrade the video card ASAP..aFP (.. as Finances Permit). :dead:I just located my previous computer's old Win-XP install disks, and I will probably give dual-booting a try soon, plus .. researching a version of Linux to run my Solaris Dev environment on and brush up on my coding tools..

I sure hope so, my fellow (former?!) Witcher-wanna-be. I _have_ had games that I really wanted to play, in the past, and had to abandon entirely for one technical reason or another. It's always a very very frustrating experience. >sigh<

My game crashes if my anti-virus decides to do its thing while I'm playing the game. Make sure you turn your anti-virus software off! In fact, when playing any complicated game, it's a good idea to turn off every background task that you can. A lot of people blame the game, when they should be blaming their other software.

This is extremely frustrating to me, as I waited for The Enhanced Edition to come out before purchasing. I wanted the game when it originally came out, but my pc is outdated, I recently upgraded some components, and I know that it is still old and crappy nowadays, but it beats the Minimum System Requirements and so I purchased this game, and now it crashes atleast once or twice an hour, and it is incredibly disappointing. It had not crashed much in the beginning, but now it is just getting ridiculous, I have lowered the graphical settings again and again, but it still continues to do so. Please, if any CDProjekt Red members read this thread, may you be able to possibly tell me what is wrong? The game just shuts down with a Windows Message stating "The Witcher has encountered an error, and will be shutting down, please send error report to Microsoft" My computer specs are...Windows XPIntel Pentium 4 3.4 gig3 gigs of ramGeforce 8600 GT 256 MB

I'm crashing quite frequently in Chapter III and IV. I had no issues until the latter part of chapter III. Chapter IV has been pretty bad with multiple times per hour.So far, it's always been on area load, whether door or new area.

Hi,the game crashes around 2hour gameplay. i found out a trick in the game to know when the game is gonna crash for sure when loading a new location.if you encounter a location change like moving from vizima to trade quartor, check always your map first. if the map background is black.then the game is crash for sure. i ussually use quick save to save the game .afterwards the game crashed i start the game again up and load the last save.game:the witcher EE (bought in store)1024x786 (i still use 17" monitor)changed from medium to high settings in video.enabled "object names" system:Intel Quad core 2.83ghz4GB DDR3 kingston memoryNvidia gtx 260 896MB ramVista home prem 32bit with service pack 1 (already includes the virtual address space patch)still.. every crash gets me back to windows again. if it don't work i use ALT-TAB to get out and kill the process.vista seems not to be effected by the crash :)i know the superfetch service takes a lot of memory in vista, but it caches automaticly the game files if you play the everytime.not sure this is creating the crash somehow :hmmm: anyway the game is great ;D
