How to know if i can run this game?

How do i know if my pc can run this game?, i know nothing about computers and all people tell me is to look at the system requirements. I looked up the games system requirements online but its all greek to me, idk what all these names and numbers mean. I didnt buy this pc i have now, my dad built it for me as a gift (hes a big pc gamer), how do i find out if it can run this game fine? I just need to make sure because i wasted alot of money buying games on the laptop i had before only to find out my laptop was too weak to play them properly and i coudnt return the games. But i really would like to play this game.

Tell us the specs of the PC, in particular
- what processor it has
- how much memory it has
- what graphics card it has.
- what operating system you're using, and whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit

I prefer to use CPU-Z for a quick look at what is in an unfamiliar computer. Just download, install, and run it. It will give you several tabs telling you about the CPU, motherboard (mainboard), memory, and graphics card.

You don't need the whole thing. Just this much will do:

The "specification" from the CPU tab.

The "manufacturer" and "model" from the Mainboard tab.

The "type" and "size" from the Memory tab.

The "GPU name" from the Graphics tab.

The "Windows Version" from the About tab.

Here's an example (this is a netbook, I already know it won't run Witcher 2, so please keep any snickering to yourself):

CPU Specification: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N450 @ 1.66GHz
Mainboard Manufacturer and Model: Toshiba NPVAA
Memory Type and Size: DDR2 2048 Mbytes
GPU Name: Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
Windows Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600) DirectX 9.0c

Um, does anyone know if I can run the Witcher 2 on an Asus 1215 netbook? The specs are:

CPU: AMD Fusion APU E450 1.65GHz (dual core)
Graphic: AMD Radeon HD 6320
1GB DDR3
OS is Windows 7, don't know the bits though...

I can play Dragon Age 2 on it, but haven't tried the Witcher 2 yet... Is there any sense in trying?

I just asked my dad and he just said he made sure itl run anything, but he also said the same thing a couple years ago when he gave me my laptop and it ran games badly. So i have to make sure, i dont want to waste more money on games i might not be able to play. I downloaded that CPU-Z program and heres the stuff you asked me to copy.

Specification - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Manufacturer - Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Model - P67A-UD4-B3
Type - DDR3
Size - 8192 MBytes
GPU - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 580, there seems to be two listed in the drop down box idk why
Windows Version - Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (Build 7600)

You should trust your dad. And thank him. :)
Yes, that will run extremely well.

It'll be like watching storyboards. The GPU doesn't have enough computing power.

Modern GPUs are little supercomputers that can process hundreds of pixels at a time. The 6320 has 80 stream processors, which sounds like a lot until you look at the minimum requirement for an AMD/ATI GPU, which is the 320-processor 3850. Since the 6320 doesn't even have dedicated memory, they're even farther apart than it sounds.

You might get it playable at 1280x720, lowest settings. But even then, it will probably be laggy and frustrating.

Oh man!! You have a top high end PC.

Don't worry, you can play ANY PC game at highest settings with no problems.

Thanks for the reply guys, im very excited to get the game later knowing it will actually play good. Had a really bad experience with my laptop, most games i tried just ran so poorly that it was unplayable. But finaly i will be able to play all the games i missed out on properly, thanks again.

Ill post results later on when i get the game to confirm its playing good, if it has problems ill ask you guys for fixes :p

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760 @2.80GHz
ASUSTeK Computer inc
DDR3/ 4096MBytes
NVIDIA GeForce GT220
Microsoft Windows 7 (6.1) Sevice Pack (Build 7601) Directx 11.1

Was thinking of getting witcher 2, after seeing a reveiw, after looking around i noticed alot of people have trouble running it, so im a little worried, so far my box runs everything up to date either medium or above medium specs, the exception is battlefeild 3, wich i was disapointed with, then i found it funny that i could play moderwarfare 3 very well, so im really not sure what my funnt stock box will and will not run.

Everything else is fine, but this game gives the GPU a brutal workout. Your GT 220 is weaker than the stated minimum requirement, but comparable cards have been made to play the game acceptably. If it's the 1GB version of the GT220, that's a good thing.

As is, you should be able to play on some reduced resolution on low settings. This game still looks good on low settings. I usually start with 1280x720, low settings when trying to get the game working on a bare minimum graphics card. Often it works better in windowed mode than full screen.

If you can see your way clear to upgrading your graphics card, you can get a lot better performance out of that rig.

It would help to know what make and model of computer (and power supply) you have. If it's an off-the-shelf computer, the make and model will do; we can look up the power supply. If it's a custom-built, we also need to know about the power supply. You may have to take off the cover (usually just one side panel is enough) to read the label on the power supply.

There is a big selection of graphics cards of all power demands, sizes, and performance levels; some are not good enough, some will install without any trouble, some will require a power supply upgrade, some will be too large or run too hot for the case, etc.

It's a microATX mini-tower case; the stock power supply is an AcBel 380W unit.

AcBel makes some decent high-wattage power supplies, but this isn't one of them. It's known for failure within the first year, and it has an anemic 222 watts (18.5 amps) of that power available at +12 volts. The graphics card and the CPU (via the voltage regulators on the motherboard) both make heavy demand on the +12 volt rails. So that power supply is marginal for, really, any upgrade at all.

From pictures online, it has excellent clearance behind the PCI-Express slot, so it can take just about any graphics card. The SATA ports face backward, so it does not have the problem some other ASUS boards have with the graphics card blocking the SATA ports. Space will not be a problem.

Without upgrading the power supply, you could get an AMD HD 6570. It would be a noticeable, but not a large, improvement. About $60 to $75 (US), but you may not see enough difference to be worth it.

If you want a budget upgrade that includes a power supply, get an AMD 6750 or 6770. Upgrade the power supply to something that gives you at least 100 more watts at +12 volts. The minimum would be something like an Antec EA-380D. This will make many games a lot more playable, including TW2. US prices would be about $120 to $150 for the combination.

Manufacturer and model: Hewlett-Packard 1696
Memory type and size: DDR3 6144 MBytes

Windows 7 64-bit

Now, technically I can get the game to run, but only at 640x480 resolution or lower on the lowest specs. I know my CPU is a bit under the minimum requirements, but I was hoping that since the rest of my system is better than the minimum specs that I'd be able to run it at low settings. The framerate is just horrific, though, with the mouse movement being so delayed as to be unusable. Was I just wrong about my laptop being able to handle TW2? Or is there some other problem that I need to address?

I think it's mostly due to the graphic card. My sys was a lil worse than yours (AMD dual core 3.8Ghz and 4Gb RAM) but I had a nice card, a GeForce gt240. I could run it finely at medium settings, with no freeze, no lag, seldom crash. And the mouse lag it's a common bug, many users experienced it. You can try locating Use.ini in Witcher2>bin>config and changing the mouseinput to 0.
