how to pgrogess game with keeping it challenging

I have small problem. Now story quests are 12lvl(novigrad part) when my character is already 18 lvl...
Even when I will finish novigrad part then next plot on islands starts at 16 lvl... so still below my lvl.
I have impression that game is ultra easy due that. I play hardest difficulty.

Is any way to keep quest levels on the same level as character?
I was doing side quest but only those fitting my character but still my character has too big lvl compare to main story.
I was doing side quests to not come back to grey level quests later because then side quest would be one shot fights.

btw. how it works with + game mode? quests somehow scale up?

Just dont use signs and put on some crappy gear lol.
Well thats the biggest problem with this game. It should scale quests and fiends to your level, but it doesnt. So we all end up getting over-leveled/over-powered.

I play on deathmarch and now i just got to novigrad, i use the gear that the game gave us at start, also i don't upgrade my signs (i mean iupgrade them to unlock more stuff but i dont put them in skill slots), i only put the "alternative sign" to make it interesting, i don't add any skills to combat section and stick to the alchemy skills mostly, but there are some a little OP ones like a skill where you drink any kind of potion and it gives you 25% each time you drink something so watch out :D

Playing like that will make it challenging AND FUN

edit: Oh and i forgot that I also dont upgrade any potions, i keep them based, the only upgrades i made are bombs as they are abit weak in my opinion

For NG+ there's very easy and great solution. Leveling up doesn't really matter there. Just stick to mastercrafted armor from NG (level 34) and swords if focusing on combat or don't go for highest sign intensity when focusing on offensive signs like Igni. I stick to wolven armor and ursine sword (mastercrafted level 34) in NG+ and it's great. Still challenging and I don't feel overpowered even having lot's of skills unlocked.

If you're playing on PC, there are two mods that can fix your predicament.

This first makes all enemies scale to your level. There's also an alternate "hardcore" version that makes them scale higher than your level.

The second makes quests always gives you the full XP reward even when you're over/under leveled for them (normally quests that are 6 levels above or below you only give you 5 XP).

I have yet to finish the game, but so far I have been keeping it semi challenging by never upgrading past the starting armor. I didn't do that to make the game harder, that was just a side effect, but because I think the Kaer Morhen armor looks better than 90% of the other armors.

Since I decided to forget that Quen exists, the game has become much more challenging.

Install Better Combat Enhanced mod. Broken Bones difficulty on this mod is more challenging than Death March in default. If you keep your start gear and play on Death March with this mod, you will die on one hit from bosses on your level.
