How will the SP Campaign exactly work? And will it be "kinda" canon to The Witcher 3?

I would be very pleased if someone could answer me these questions! Because i really have no clue!

Thank's! ;)

I would hope those campaigns would cover characters that lacked presence in Witcher 3 with fleshing out their plotlines a bit more like Eredin and Iorveth, but we shall see, it is their last chance to get the plotholes in Witcher 3 addressed, hopefully they go for it and not half-ass it.

This is what I'd like to see:

Skellige:

- Definitely some sort of prequel to the events in Witcher 3.

Monsters:

- Mainly follows the story of Eredin in his own world trying to fight the white frost during the Witcher 3 while hunting Ciri.
- This is a chance to get some lore and get to know the antagonists better.

Northern Realms:

- I think the ideal here would be following the story of John Natalis who is travelling to Kovir during the events of Witcher 3 trying to persuade the king and queen to stand up to Radovid's crazy rule and if he wins the war, to negotiate a free Temeria while presenting Anais as the heir to Temerian throne.

- Unless it's going to be a prequel, anything else is pretty much out of the question here during the events of Witcher 3.

Scoiatael:

- Basically tells the untold story of non-humans during the events of Witcher 3. Follows Iorveth (and Saskia) after the events of W2 and the comic.
- Takes place in Dol Blathanna in the Blue Mountains.
- Other main characters include Francesca Findabair, Isengrim Faoiltiarna and Ida Emean.

Actually, 'canon' might be too absolute a word. Anyway, the campaigns will be set in different time periods with different characters so they will be official stories to the Witcher game universe. Most likely, you'll only play as Geralt in the tutorial. After that, the campaigns will feature characters that are more appropriate to raise an army or commandeer one since that's the reason lore-wise for building up your deck which is your army.

I hope they give us original stories just like they did with W3 ,, W2 had a lackluster of a story and we don't need it to continue but that doesn't mean it's characters shouldn't appear and play a secondary role.

I suspect the single player campaigns will be more like side-stories (similarly to the expansions of TW3) than an official part of the main storyline of the game trilogy.

Yeah, to be honest that sounds more realistic !

Not to criticize your choice of words but just to make sure I don't overstate it. I originally started with a "canon not just to W3 but the whole Witcher universe" statement. But after some thoughts, I changed it hence the edit. Mostly because there are some differences between the books, comics and games and that makes one question how canon it is to any one of them.

Yeah, i understand!

By the way, there will be multiple versions of Ciri so the odds of you getting one of her in the campaigns are very high! :happy2:

Also, they're quite good cards. Check out her Blink version if you haven't seen it yet.

Yesss! :D
That's good to hear!

:happy2:

Thank's a lot!
No problem! If you want to see the cards in action, you can also look at the opening post in my thread. The top video has her in it. She was played around the 7:45 mark by the opponent, guess what the player did immediately? :readytofight:

Yeah, it won't be canon. Not even the games are considered canon by the author of the original books, Andrzej Sapkowski.

Ah okay, thank's! I already watched some german gameplay's too ^^

But anyways....i need to work on my Gwent skills! Cuz i actually just played it a few times in The Witcher 3. (Shame on me) But...i don't know, i hate Minigames in games like The Witcher 3!

But i will definitely play it more with the Standalone version now! :)

Well, i think you can't really say that. Sure the games are not considered canon but CDPR made them, and i say it again, "kinda canon". Canon in a Fan fiction way if you want.

You will have a map and play different opponents. My guess is it will not be linear and you will be able to choose between different quests and different places in the world.

I think @saltyB meant if the GWENT single player stories will be canon to the games (not the books), which is a more interesting question. After all, they are by the same authors, but could still be considered separate stories.

Here's a summary of what we know about Gwent Story Mode so far, based on informations provided by all kinds of outlets:

1. First Story Mode campaign will be Geralt new adventure (presumably set around some point in the past, before the events depicted in the games). So far all we know about the basic premise is that Geralt
comes across some haunted mansion and he picks up a contract to help escort young noble woman through dangerous lands.

2. The world is depicted in the form of isometric map on which you move your character (in this case Geralt) around, interacting with different locations, objects and NPC's on it in RPG fashion (different choices, dialogues trees, etc.). The combat takes the form of Gwent match, with your companions and enemies serving as Gwent cards.

3. It's going to have a full voice acting, including the actors from the games returning to voice old characters (though so far Geralt is the only one confirmed for story mode).

4. Story and Gwent matches are strongly connected, so for example if you go through the misty forest on the map and you are attacked by the monsters, the Gwent match will be automatically affected by Impenetrable Fog, thus rendering the archers who accompany Geralt pretty much useless, unless you find some way around this.

5. Witcher 3 writers and quest designers work on the story mode, thus making it possible it's going to be canon for the games story, but so far we don't know how much they are going to be connected with each other.

Valuable intel .. I really can't wait for SP.

Also in one of the german gameplay videos it was said by Miles Tost from CDPR that there'll be story exclusive cards in form of the enemies you encounter. They'll appear on the field as unique cards.
