I can't get past the first loading screen

I just downloaded and installed hotfix/latest patch for vista, and still I can't get past the first loading screen after picking the difficulty and mouse or mouse/keyboard options. Does anyone know a solution to this? Thanks!

Update your graphics card driver. See what that does

I just checked, and I have the newest drivers. I'm running a 8800 GTS, I'm not sure if that helps.

I had the same problem on Vista x64.Well, I haven't got a real solution for this problem, but a little trick that worked quite fine for me: Just press Ctrl+Alt+Del and enter the taskmanager. If you can hear voices in the background yet, everything is fine and you can close the taskmanager and return to the game. Otherwise you have to right click on "the witcher" task and order it to stop. As soon as Windows asks if you want to close it immediately select "cancel" since you actually want to play the game. Now return to The Witcher and everything should be fine.You will have to do this everytime you start the witcher and load a new game or a saved one. As soon as it runs it should have no further problems with loading screens.I hope that helps.(Well, the best solution for me was to play Witcher on Windows XP and all problems were gone...)
